Put a shortcut on the desktop in Windows 8

How can I put a shortcut on my desktop in windows 8?

You must open the location of your application and copy and paste as a shortcut on the desktop.

Tip: you could just open the application and open the Task Manager and find its process and do a right click on it and open the location of the file and copy from there.

  • Shortcut on the desktop for Windows Defender

Hello. I have Windows 7 starter on my netbook and want to create a shortcut on the desktop for Windows Defender. However, it does not appear as a program in the start menu and the option to display the control panel more big or small icons is greyed out (i.e., not available in starter edition), I don't see the program on the control panel or the other. The only way I can get to it is to type in 'Defender' in the search field in the start menu or the search field on the control panel. Although one of these actions will locate Windows Defender, they do not provide me the ability to create a shortcut for the application. I tried searching in Program Files on the C drive and found him, but did not know which file right-click on the folder to create a shortcut file. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

Second, Windows Defender is updated analysis scheduled around 02:00 every morning, but my computer isn't on then, I expect to do a scan automatically the next day when I turned the computer back on. He did not do that and always displays the last analysis as being the manual I did the day before. Is it possible to get auto-start if it misses its slot 02,00 regular?

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Thank you both for responding: I did click right and do drag the thing like that seemed simpler and it worked: thank you. Are you able to let me know how to get the Defender to make an auto scan when I turn on the computer if it misses its slot 02,00?

    Thank you.

Just swipe their EXEs on the desktop. When you release the mouse button
    keys, choose "Create shortcut here."

What kind of shortcut?  FWIW I just click right on my desk, new > shortcut and it gives then the shortcut Wizard:

    cmd.exe /c echo hi & pause

    Then he called Test.

It seems even easier that I remember XP.   For example do a right click of my new Test shortened reminds the complexity that someone just starting to create a shortcut could face.

With nothing good to go on, my answer would be... you must create it.

Example: create a shortcut on the desktop of Windows Media Player...

  • Shortcut on the desktop of contacts in windows 7-windows live mail

My new computer replacement provided with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail installed as my email client.  I have been using it and it.  I was also put my contacts in the folder of Live Mail contacts within this program.  Since the file allows other information in addition to the email, I would like to use as my contacts folder by default/hand/don't touch that file, but I want to have a shortcut on the desktop to access the full file of contacts directly without having to open the complete e-mail program.  I tried in vain to drag a copy to the desktop, locate the program in live mail and create the shortcut to a file that opens the list of contacts.  I also noted and found a file of contacts under c/users/chick who looks like and contains the same information on a contact (it has the face of the same user) identical to the contacts in the folder of Windows Live e-mail but does not contain contact information that I already have in the program Live Mail and apparently isn't the same folder.  How can I create a shortcut on my desktop that opens just the contacts folder in the windows program live mail?  I could also ask the same question on the calendar in windows live mail.  Thank you, chick.

also all the shortcuts on the desktop are not displayed, and can be created, or any folder cannot be created so that the flash disk is reinserted

    Hi subhshy001,

Welcome to the Microsoft Windows answers Forum community!

Try this if you do not have

Windows Explorer to create the folders and shortcuts in your document folder, drag and drop them on your desktop.

If you have completed the steps and was not even useful,

    Follow these steps:

Try to create a shortcut and sending it on the desktop.

    (1) open: Start Menu ,.
    (2) right-click: Internet Explorer icon .
    (3) select: send to > desktop (create shortcut).

There should be a shortcut on the desktop .

Make sure that the "show desktop icon" has a check against it

    OR

Just click on the empty part of the desktop, choose new > then select the folder to create. Right click on this folder , select Rename it.

If the steps above do not work then:

You can scan your computer for malware.

You can download, install and update anti-malware free of your favorite search engine and find malware.

If the scan comes back clean, so I recommend doing a System File Checker too l to analyze your OS system files.

To help resolve this problem, use the tool (SFC.exe) System File Checker to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. open an elevated command prompt . To do this, click Start , click principally made programs , Accessories , right-click guest , and then click run as administrator .  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow .
    2. type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow (Yes there is a space after sfc) the sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. This analysis do take some time to complete.

    Hope this information helped!

    Hello

    1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?

Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1:

I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.

    a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
    c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
    Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
    attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
    Explorer.exe

    d. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.

    Step 2:

Test the issue in a new user account.

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type sfc in the search box, right-click to SFC. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To make, click Start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

    2. In the shortcut tab, change the option extended in the run section.
