Quark 10

I am on a MAC with OS of Yosemite. I'm trying to distill a pdf from Quark 10. Am trying the trial version of acrobat DC, but it does not work so far of Quark. How do I distill Quark? What should I do?

Hi irenea13149588

If your workflow requires the use of Acrobat Distiller to generate PDF files, you can tell QuarkXPress to create a PostScript file. Please refer to this link first How to use Acrobat Distiller with QuarkXPress. Planet Quark

Once you have created the PostScript you can create PDFS using Acrobat Distiller Acrobat help. Creating PDFs with Acrobat Distiller

In case if you still encounter any problem or have any questions please let us know, we will be happy to help you.

Kind regards

Nicos

  • Quark 9.5 and splwow64.exe would not load in Windows 7.

I have fortunately used Quark 9.5 for a year now. Until two days ago, when it does not open. The task manager has highlighted in the monitor awaing wire splwowe. exe. It would not load. So I restored the computer to last week. Then I followed the advice of quark-removed the files preferences and xtensions. Reinstall the program. reinstalled Norton and installed the canon printer driver. No change.

    Help!

splwow64.exe is a print spooler driver that allows 32-bit programs to print to a printer using a 64-bit driver.

You can take a look at this link about the issue:

    Help

You do not say that if you have checked to see if Quark 6 is compatible Windows 7, Quark 8 is the current version, then I suggest that you check with them to http://www.quark.com/ to see if a) Wuark 6 is compatible or b) if upgrading to Quark 8 will work.

  • What is InDesign Quark Smart Fit equivalent?

Our paper use Quark for many years now in collaboration with Falcon editorial APT.

Recently, we moved to InDesign and cannot find any function which acts as did function of Smart Fit of Quark. Smart Fit automatically adjust the spacing of the text in a text box (without changing its size, etc.) in order to make the text line up flush with the bottom of the frame-of course essential when creating pages of newspaper where space cannot be dictated by the length of the text.

We can find no such function in InDesign. It would seem like content object/fitting/made to the framework would be the winner, right? InDesign doesn't allow us to select this option for a text box. Except that, the closest thing we have found is Auto-Size under text block Options, but which resizes the frame rather that adjust the text to fit, which is not an option.

Why content to adapt to the option not available for text block, and what is missing here?

Sounds like text block Options > vertical Justification > Justified.

  • InDesign will fade into obscurity like Quark Express?

You remember the way back when Quark acted like they were owners of the planet (because they did a little) and ignored the wishes of their customers? You remember what happened? Adobe InDesign 1.0 has created... It was the stroller, crashed all the time, was full of problems and everyone went from Quark to use it.  Why do they go? Well, Indesign offers many of the features users had claims of Quark for years.  AND these same users were angry... angry to Quark, because of continue professional designers under the name meant, they had to put up with the nasty attitude to use Quark hey-what-other-software-are-you-going.

Now, fast-forward to today. Design professionals are angry (yet). They can continue to use the CS6 with incompatible interpretations OS. They want a perpetual license for InDesign and that you do not want to pay Adobe until the day of judgment last, just to be able to open their records. Attitude from Adobe? "Hey-what-other-software-are-you-going to use?  These angry customers are ripe for the picking. If a young eager software company out still a demi-decente layout application (with a perpetual license) which could open the .indd files, it could be game-over for InDesign.  So, you all what do you think? InDesign will fade into obscurity like Quark Express?

The answer is NO! Thanks for the marking of the question as answered!

  • Quark-> conversion tables DLI - how can I get my text?

Hello... I had a converted file from Quark to the DLI. It uses arrays to create 5 blocks of type per page. I can see the tables, but not the text. If I cut and paste into a simple text-editing program, I see that the type is still there. But how to make it appear?

    Thank you!

The red line to the left in the story editor indicates that the text is overset. This is why it does not appear.

It would take a further examination of the actual document to see what was the cause.

It is possible that an attribute without break got accidentally applied; It could be that the images with the text string are pushing the text away.

  • How to open quark files

Can someone please advise the best way to open a quark file as it is not recognized

    Regards, Ryan

Only old QuarkXpress 3.3 and 4.0 files are open with InDesign.

You will need a third-party product like this for the newer versions of QuarkXPress:

    Q2ID (Quark to InDesign). Markzware

  • Is it possible to create more than 2 pages in a line of page layout in InDesign (as formerly in Quark where you could have 5 pages)

Hi is it possible to make multiple pages (up to more than 2) in the mode "facing pages" - as you can do in the old days with Quark where you could have 5 pages next to each other in the layout.

You can configure p to 10 pages of a double. Go to the page Panel, select the spread and in the Panel menu, select pages to keep together and drag up to 10 pages in which spread.

  • Can quark files be opend in design

    Quark files is accessible design

Quark 4, but more late it requires of Markzware Q2ID plugin.

  • Depending on its use in Quark Express

In Quark Express many moons ago, I regularly used a feature called use whereby you could see where a rogue colors or fonts when used in a large document. It was very convenient to find where colors Pantone had be brought into a document to an external file and then be able to go back and change them into CMYK. Anyone know if there is a similar option in InDesign because I really need to use it!

To watch the font, select the text command > Search a font.

To see where the colors are used visually, choose window > output > overview of separation.

But, better yet, use window > output > preflight. Set up your own preflight profile to search for features that may become a problem when printing, or other output. Read about it in InDesign help.

I suspect that you choose the wrong forum: this is one of the Captivate forums. You will probably get a response if you posted in the InDesign forum?

It may be preferable to use a downsampling image option in Quark during the pdf creation process.
