Question about the Microsoft malicious software removal tool

Recently, I downloaded and executed the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool. He said that if it finds any infected file he would remove the. I did 2 quick scans, and twice he told them I had 3 infected files, but at the end of the scan it says no malicious software found. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi Flamencoqueen,

Please use the Forum for answers!

Different security programs have different detection evaluates, performance etc.  It could be that when scanning infected files were found and removed. If you have reason to believe that the result cannot be specific, you can choose to run that more than one antivirus program on a particular system provided that they are not in conflict with one another.

I want to uninstall this program, but I can't find it on my computer. (This is ranked among the updates to download that were installed on my computer.) I have Microsoft Vista and you are using Internet Explorer 8.

I don't know, but this is not the right place to be troubleshooting anyway, it would be a question for those who support the Toolbar from Quicken Picks, if there is someone.

If MSRT has nothing, resettlement should have reinstalled the missing element, it sounds more like you have a problem with Internet Explorer itself, if I still don't know what it is because I have no idea how their toolbar.

  • MS malicious software removal tool

Recently, I downloaded and executed the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool. While browsing the terms & conditions of downloading MS Malicious Software Removal Tool, it said that by running this tool on my computer, Microsoft could have access to my computer & can transfer information without my knowledge. He also stated in the agreement that the user can then refuse permission / change permission and can prevent the unauthorized access to its system by visiting "support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890830". Need to know how? I saw the link provided, but cannot be zero on the question I can prohibit the unauthorized access to my computer

It's really not as bad as it sounds, but if you really want to turn it off, try the following (after creating a System Restore Point and backup registry):

An administrator can choose to disable the report of infection of the tool component by adding the following registry key value on computers. If this registry key value is set, the tool reports no infection information to Microsoft.

    Subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\MRT
    Name: \DontReportInfectionInformation
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value data: 1

  • Offered separately and after other Windows malicious software removal tool updates this month?

As the header says, I was surprised to see THAT MRT for July 2013 offered after that I had installed all updates of updated patch Tuesday and I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't re-run WU.   Of course those who probably have to download and install automatically WU would not notice this.  I prefer to make my own.

I noticed the same thing in Windows 7 and 8.

Is it a new way of doing things?

Same thing here.  See these threads:

Just install the second time and it will no longer appear.

Yes.  It is a tool on demand and not in real time thus creates no problems or conflicts with the other application in real time, including Kaspersky Antivirus.

  • Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool not doing anything to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?

original title: WHY Windows Update keep up to date USELESS of Windows Defender and installation USELESS malware remover?

I'm a computer technician who makes a TON of virus remove money from Windows computers.  Two-thirds of my tasks of repair involving the elimination of viruses from Windows and trying to fix the Internet Explorer, the worst browser known to humanity.

I have a question about Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool.  These are two programs entirely worthless, evidenced by the fact that computers with them installed still get infected of all viruses, Trojan and rootkit out there.  Clearly, if these two programs of malware Microsoft has done anything to protect your computer, it would have been without having to release still a THIRD tool antivirus, "security essentials" for Microsoft.   I'm not complaining — the way Microsoft Windows absorbs malware like a sponge, put a lot of money in my bank account. Please keep doing what you're doing... however...

My question is, given that Windows Defender and the malicious software removal tool doing nothing to protect against malware, why Windows Update keep harassing upgrade us on a regular basis?

Windows defender is not an antivirus program, it is designed to protect against spyware.

If you don't like them, so do not use them.

  • Trouble updating windows malicious software removal tool, the download does not progress!

Title says it all, during the update live my machine has been slain on 11% for almost an hour during the update to the malicious software removal tool. Any advice?

    Hi L Jaworski,

    What is the updated article?

Restart your computer and turn on your computer in a clean boot State, and then try to update. Problem can be caused by a conflict of third-party software blocking the update process. Clean boot helps eliminate conflicts of third party software.

Note: Follow step 7 to your computer as usual.

  • Malicious software removal tool update problems the last few months. Suspended for a very long time. Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2

    Hello

The last 3 months when the download and installation of my updates for Windows Vista, it gets stuck for hours on the malicious software removal tool. I have to cancel it. Restart the computer and reinstall. Then he moved very well and quickly according to historical updates. Last month, it was really difficult to cancell it well. He finally got through it. Here is a little history on my machine. I'm very very well with this computer. Each week, I do disk Cleanup, then defrag with diskeeper, virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials. And every six months, I run a very large disk check and I said to correct errors and try to fix bad sectors. More than 3 years, I only had 2 minor bluescreens. I always make sure I have all my products Microsoft put updated. When I first got this computer I had a guy I.T. (a neighbor) out of the box and clean all the useless garbage out of it and it partitioned the hard drive. More than 3 years, he managed as a champion. Always very fast and all.

I hope that I'm not the only person having problems with this. Just start with the month of June, then July, then August.

P.S. I have 2 laptops running XP sp3, one is 9 years old and the other is 11 years old, he had 2000 top PRO, but I just put XP sp3 on it last month. They run too much like fields. I take good care of my computers with a little help from my friend IT. They have the same programs as this one and I do the same things to them, but they do not have this same problem with the release of the MSRT tool. Which leads me to think that it is specific to Vista only, I have a Windows 7 computer yet, so I can't speak for seven.

Any suggestions or ideas? We are scratching our heads on this one.

Thank you in advance for your time and help

Your misguided use of registry cleaners could have caused this behavior! If you ever think that your registry database must be cleaned, repaired, amplified, to the point, cured, twisted, fixed or optimized (it isn't), read http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.

Hi, 1 thank you a lot for your responses to my query. You gave me a good lesson on the search for info according to your instructions.

I will definitely read the links on registry cleaning etc.
I came across another thread with the same query as mine and after reading all the reviews, I decided to do the same thing that the "asker" which was to educate Secunia PSI to ignore instructions from manual update for the original program expired. Secunia PSI shows now 100% on my programs updated and everything seems to work OK.
I obviously confused and put in the wrong program for removal in my 1st question.

  • the update to the malicious software removal tool maintains does not install correctly

    Hi Leo,

According to the description, it seems that you are having problems with the installation of the updates to the malicious software removal tool. I will definitely help you with this problem.

    (1) you receive an error message when you try to install the update?

    (2) is confined to a specific update issue?

    (3) have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    (4) what is the number of the update?

Step 1: I suggest you to check if the update is installed or has failed in the history of udpate and provide the error message if it is down.

    (a) click Start, all programs, then select Windows Update.

    (b) click view update history.

    (c) If you see the update failed, right-click on the update and the error code and then select display.

Step 2: If the update is installed and repeatedly offers the same update, then I suggest you to follow the steps from the link and check if the problem persists.
