Web browser does not load after the release of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830)

My computer ran a mandatory update on 20/10/14 to install Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x 64 edition-October 2014 (KB890830). Since the update I can not either of my browsers to load. I'm showing a connection wi - fi and have even attached to my phone, but still not get anything to load. I'm not sure what to do to fix this problem. Any ideas on what could be the problem and how to solve?

UPDATE: well, if this seems to be a firewall problem. When I disable my Norton firewall, my web browsers work fine. My problem now is to find out how to get this new update and firewall to play nice together. Any suggestions?

Hi Manu,.

    KB890830? It is legitimate.

  • Offered separately and after other Windows malicious software removal tool updates this month?

As the header says, I was surprised to see THAT MRT for July 2013 offered after that I had installed all updates of updated patch Tuesday and I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't re-run WU.   Of course those who probably have to download and install automatically WU would not notice this.  I prefer to make my own.

I noticed the same thing in Windows 7 and 8.

Is it a new way of doing things?

Same thing here.  See these threads:

    1. computer does not start after the Windows XP logo window
2 works well in safe mode, even connect to the external monitor
    3. I reinstalled xp many times, problem stil exist.

    All the answers?

    Hi dhanushm,

    1. What happens after the Windows logo screen?
    2. You receive an error message?
    3. You have security software installed on the computer?
    4. Have you performed an installation clean Windows XP and even after that this problem exists?

    Method 1

As the computer starts up fine in safe mode there is a possibility that some third-party programs installed on the computer is the origin of the problem.

I suggest that you configure the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See section to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start , and then click run.
    2. Type msconfig , and then click OK.
The System Configuration utility dialog box appears.
    3. Click the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services , and then click OK.
    4. When you are prompted, click restart to restart the computer.

    Method 2

If fails it above step can refer to the article below and try the steps mentioned, check if it helps.

  • Question about the Microsoft malicious software removal tool

Recently, I downloaded and executed the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool. He said that if it finds any infected file he would remove the. I did 2 quick scans, and twice he told them I had 3 infected files, but at the end of the scan it says no malicious software found. Anyone know anything about this?

    Hi Flamencoqueen,

Please use the Forum for answers!

Different security programs have different detection evaluates, performance etc.  It could be that when scanning infected files were found and removed. If you have reason to believe that the result cannot be specific, you can choose to run that more than one antivirus program on a particular system provided that they are not in conflict with one another.

Title says it all, during the update live my machine has been slain on 11% for almost an hour during the update to the malicious software removal tool. Any advice?

    Hi L Jaworski,

    What is the updated article?

Restart your computer and turn on your computer in a clean boot State, and then try to update. Problem can be caused by a conflict of third-party software blocking the update process. Clean boot helps eliminate conflicts of third party software.

Note: Follow step 7 to your computer as usual.

  • Path and a location for the file Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Vista 64 X

I am trying to understand if the X 64 Malicious Software Removal Tool should be in both x 86 directory, system, system32 or SYSWOW64 in Vista Home Premium directory, SP2. It would seem logical that he would go in the second case, but I see it in the system32 directory. I want to just make sure I'm on the right pair and it is in the right directory.

On 64-bit systems System32 is the 64-bit folder.

  • Web site does not load after you type the address and pressing the return key

I just downloaded and installed Firefox for a second time. First, I imported my IE settings. The second time I did not import the settings. Both times, after that I have type an address in the address bar and press ENTER key nothing happens. I even tried the subject: config and nothing happens.

If you are in a corporate network environment:

20.0 Firefox has a problem with configurations where your Windows profile is stored on a server using a UNC path (for example, \\userdata\greg). Currently, there is a solution for this. A solution could be to choose a local folder for your own settings of Firefox, but that could not be authorized by your COMPUTER. Even if it's less safe, if you need emergency of Firefox, you could install Firefox 19.0.2. This article has a link under 'I still want downgrade': install an older version of Firefox.

If you are in a home environment or the local settings folder, then please ignore the above.
