• Two questions about Camera Raw and Lightroom

  I am now shooting in RAW image format only and catalog images in Lightroom.

  My first question is: how to open an image in Camera Raw from Lightroom? When I right-click on an image in Lightroom, it gives me a choice to edit > Photoshop, but does not not the choice of editing in Camera Raw. In fact, when I'm outside of Lightroom and just double-click on one of these RAW images, it opens in Photoshop. What is going on? Before that I installed Lightroom, a double click on a RAW file would force the latter open in Camera RAW.

  My second question is: Lightroom seems to have all the same controls during processing of a RAW image as does plug in Camera Raw. Does this mean that I no longer need to open images in Camera Raw? I just did all my settings inside Lightroom? I guess that the xmp file is the same as modified in Lightroom or Camera Raw.

  Responding to your first. Lightroom and ACR share code, rendering you get from Lightroom with the same parameters is therefore exactly the same as in ACR. What happens is that when you say "Edit in Photoshop", ACR is recalled by Lightroom and the development parameters are passed along. ACR then renders the RAW with these settings and open it in Photoshop. Then, because you already have a working for the settings interface, there is no point in showing them to you once again.

  Does this mean that I no longer need to open images in Camera Raw? I just did all my settings inside Lightroom?

  It depends on your workflow. I have more if open images in ACR directly like Lightroom offers a more effective interface in my opinion. Other people I'm sure that prefer the approach of Bridge/ACR.

  Lightroom is not change the default sidecars. All changes are stored in the database. This allows you to have virtual copies with different parameters of development and more stuff like that. You can have Lightroom write using xmp sidecars "save metadata to file" in menu metadata in library or by turning on the automatic xmp file generation in preferences. There is usually no real point to do this however as "Edit in Photoshop" route works fine. It is really useful when you have a stream of mixed production that still use the bridge. If you share images with others, you are better of DNG, exporter or subsets of images as catalogs with the included images.

When I got home on Saturday, I downloaded a new Lexar 64 GB card XQD photos. The photographs downloaded fast... but when I went to see the photos in Photoshop, I was not able to view or work with them...  I had this problem when I bought a new Nikon D4s in 2014. I tried to find out if I got all dates, and Adobe said yes I had all the dates... I went to see if Nikon D5 was on the list of cameras supported in Adobe camera raw... The Nikon D5 was shown as being supported... Have a solution... Thanks in advance...

  Check the version of Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop, then make sure it's 9.5, as the camera Nikon D5 is supported in this version of Camera Raw.

• Camera raw question

  I just started to work with the PS, and I wanted to work with a few images I shot in raw.  I downloaded the camera raw 9.2 more the dng converter.  After you have converted all the files, I made the source folder and the destination folder were the same.  The only thing I changed was the name of a file with an extension of dang.  After the batch, I received a message from "successful conversion", and I assumed everything was ok.  I have then rectified to find the files and nothing.  They are not found.  I tried the HD and nothing.  If I open the dang converter again, he wants to convert the original and new files, that I converted.  The files should be somewhere, but when I open the bridge to join the files, I just see the NEF files.  PS will not recognize that so I'm stuck.  What I am doing wrong?  Help, please...  Thank you

  If you try to import files of Raw files from a camera that requires Raw 7.1 or later, then your other option is to convert Raw to DNG files using the free Adobe's DNG Converter

• Curious question about previews of Lightroom and Camera Raw Cache

  Posted in the Flickr Lightroom group as well:

  I noticed something on the previews of Lightroom (3.6) and cache Camera Raw, intrigued me.

  I create a new, empty catalog, and purge the Cache of Camera Raw.

  Then I import ONE Nikon (NEF) RAW file with dimensions 2592 x 3872 (10 mega pixels - 10,036,224).

  Then I export this NEF file to a TIFF 8-bit file uncompressed. You can expect this file size TIFF about 30 MB (10 megapixels x 3 bytes per RGB value) and in fact the TIFF file is size of 30,135,830 bytes. If you export the TIFF file same ZIP compression to specify the size of the resulting file is 10,834,038 bytes. The compression achieved here is obviously going to be highly specific to the image, but so far no surprises.

  When you import I said make 1:1 previews and I spend in the Loupe and see the whole picture in the format 1:1. I also visit the development module and do a lot of manipulation on the image but not cropping.

  At the conclusion of all this, I got out of Lightroom and examine file camera Raw Cache as well as previews of Lightroom file size. It would be my expectation that the previews folder should have a complete image rendering and Camera Raw Cache should also have a display form of raw data. What do you expect the size of these respective folders to be?

  Indeed - in my tests that the previews folder totals a simple 1 675 264 bytes and Camera Raw Cache that contains an image DAT file cached one is simply 267 374 bytes. This doesn't seem like enough bits to preserve the image rendered, nor there at - it an image is full-size, nestled in the actual catalog - the file is not large enough to hold that. And yet I can use the magnifying glass to the format 1:1 mode and move an image to the image without loading delays (even when you import multiple files).

  I wonder if I missed something obvious in my analysis and that, if someone might not care to speculate on what magic Adobe's practice here. Even if grant us them special algorithms to compress their insights that I don't see how they can achieve a compression so much larger than the file ZIP compressed TIFF realizes.

  And for those who might think to ask - I have told these experiences with multiple raw images and on MAC or PC platforms.

  I look forward to answers or interesting theories or maybe someone could reproduce the results of the experiment and report.

  The previews in the preview cache are JPEG files. JPEG compression is much more effective than the lossless zip compression. No magic here.

  I don't know if you've made a small lack of hitting, but you don't want a "Reset Camera Raw default" - that affects all files opens (assuming that you have saved by default custom for your camera in the past).

  You want to just check the Camera Raw default is near the top to influence the images selected entry only.

  Lightroom use Camera Raw, which is located in the library > Application Support > Adobe > Plugins > CS4?  What I mean is, is it a plugin Camera Raw using Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom 2.7, or Lightroom installs another copy for his own use?

  Lightroom does not use plug in Camera Raw.  All this technology is part of the Lightroom program.  Lightroom 2.7 and Camera Raw 5.7 are only the features and supported devices are the same.  Lightroom and Camera Raw (plug-in) share the same processing pipeline, but they are not interdependent.

• Adobe Bridge / Camera RAW Question

  Hello. Can someone tell me what is the small icon of gray circle with two arrows in there? This icon appears on the RAW image photos after opening a RAW file in Camera RAW using Adobe Bridge. When you hover over it says nothing, when you click on it, it does nothing. I'm assuming that its indicator that the RAW file has been open but side ever since that I can't understand what it represents. Can someone give an idea on that? In addition, after how is opening and editing a RAW file that the changes appear in the preview deck? Is there a way to return the preview to its original state image? Any help would be appreciated. • Support for files Camera Raw by PS Elements

  J'utiise since lot of' years PS Elements 6 on my computer (under Windows 10) pour process my photos. Just normal elsewhere to acquire a Fujifilm X 30. Playback of raw files from this camera requires the installation of a plug in Camera Raw version 8.7 at least (software 'owner' RAF). This plug-in is installed, I found that items 6 fails to open.

  Is this a real inconsistency with Elements 6 which would be too old or well there - he supported a procedure whereby my photo app to take even when these files? It would be a kind of backward compatibility.

  Maybe by installing also DNG converter? But then what version, knowing that the version of the plug-in Camera Raw in Elements 6 EST 4.2?

  You need at least 13 elements Photoshop in order to adjust the camera raw plugin that will support your camera. You can use the DNG Converter if you don't want to upgrade Photoshop Elements. I recommend that you use the latest version of the DNG Converter. There are options you can set that will that DNG files will be compatible with the software you use.

• Fallacious rectangles or "glitch" appear when using Camera Raw.

  When I use Camera Raw, I see fake or rectangles 'glitch' appear when using various tools of exposure, the adjustment brush setting, etc.. To work around the problem, I set a tool that I use as an exhibition or a brush until the rectangles disappear, then try to accomplish my initial task. Although annoying and disruptive to work, the question so far seems innocuous from a real perspective of corruption.

  The question goes far (stops going completely) when I uncheck the box "use Graphics Processor' Raw.

  My guess is that it is a matter of driver/GPU. If someone knows something about this, would be great to hear, otherwise I just wanted to share the info in case someone else has the same problem arise.

  Note, I have a relatively new Intel 970M, latest drivers and a lot of memory... This isn't an 'old system' or lack of memory type of question.

  You have your answer. That's what a lot of people have had to do when their graphics card does not work well with the cab. No solution other than what you were doing.

  Different question.

  The Action requires that Camera Raw as a filter (in the menu Filter) which is only available with the versions of Photoshop Cloud (CC).

  As explained in your other thread, Camera Raw is available as a plug-in for CS6 only so that you can open Raw files and edit. Camera Raw takes place automatically as soon as you try one open a Raw file.

  In CC, Camera Raw is also available as a filter (in the menu filter in Photoshop) - who depend on this Action. It won't work in CS6 because Camera Raw is not available as a filter in CS6.

  In other words, the Action is not compatible with the CS6. It only works with CC.
