Question on the Maintenance Mode

When you select "Shutdown" or "Reboot" in the vClient, I get the following message:

"The host is not in maintenance mode. Are you sure that you want to, stop, or restart >? »

I looked in the manual and it does not need the ESXi host in maintenance mode before you shut down or restart.

I would like to confirm that there is no harm to execute an action when NOT in maintenance mode.

Thank you

This is more than a warning.  If you have guests running on your host computer, they will both go down.  But if you have no guests, no harm.

I only did this, but it seems easy enough. Have a look here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hp_admin_11122/ch13s05s01.html

  • Questions about the Maintenance Wizard

We are currenlty evauluating the Maintenance Wizard we for our 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3 upgrade and have a few general questions. I apoligize in advance if they have already answered in the forums, but I find contradictory information based on the version, etc. We have installed the most recent version in our environment. In any case, here are some of my questions:
    .
    (1) we currently have a company policy while not allowing our servers to communicate via the web. It seems that the wizard wants to commuicate with MOS to download patches that we are able to do, but we cannot have the wizard in constant connection with Oracle mode. Is downloading the full patch where the wizard communicates with Oracle? If so, will all necessary patches be downloaded right from the start or are they as needed throughout the process?
    .
    (2) I saw the son of not being able to control the patches if they are allowed to apply by the wizard. Example: It looks like you can not use adctrl if the patch fails and others. Is this true?
    .
    (3) it is possible to allow the wizard to download and merge the patches and perform any other tasks manually? The wizard enough about what needs to be done manually if you do not apply the update to communicate?
    .
Us ran through the upgrade manually once and we can do it this way. We are evauluating the wizard to see if it matches our research and if he actaully is an advantage for the upgrade process. Thank you!

    1 bash should work

    2. it NEEDS to be done. If there is any foreign verbiage returned, then all the automations will fail, as it will get 'text' back much more than what is expected.

    3. There is a utility to change the password of MOS. Once you have completed the steps of the Configuration category, you can go for a run to reset the value.

  • ADadmin '5. Change the Maintenance Mode' option is missing

Hello. I use adadmin. I need to put the server in maintenance mode, but the number of option 5 (change in maintenance mode) is missing:

    It only shows this:

    1 generate Applications files menu

    2. maintain the Applications files menu

    3. menu compilation/Reload Applications database entities

    4. maintaining the menu of Applications database entities

    5. exit AD Administration

    Why is this? any help?

    Thank you.

    Hi Luis,.

If its EBS R12.2 then YES - "Change maintainenace mode" option is not there in adadmin menu since we have online (adop) patch in R12.2. This option is removed from adadmin once you activate the correction online.

Can you let us know what tasks you want to put the server mode maintainace?

Not sure, but you can check if you are able to put the server in maintenance manually mode using adsetmmd.sql.

  • Disable HA or use the Maintenance Mode when the upgrade of the network switches

    Hello

We expect the upgrade to our network switches. In the case where the hosts loose network connection I want to avoid having HA suddenly and guests try to run current virtual machines. What is best practices for cluster HA-activated in case guests loose network connection?

Disable HA or put all hosts in maintenance mode? Or is there another suggestion?

    Vickers

If you are using vSphere 4 there is option to disable HA response to failure without disabling agents HA HA. This option has been added specifically for when you know you're going to do the maintenance of the network and that you do not want HA answer when the management network is down. It is much faster to do that that in order to completely disable the HA or put all hosts in maintenance mode.

  • Operations to exhale when you enter the Maintenance Mode

Given that we have upgraded to Esx 3.5 version, we noticed that when a host server between maintenance mode there are always a few VM that will not migrate due to operation Time Out errors.  I don't know where is the problem, but I was informed that if I cancel the mode entry maintaining, I can manually VMotion virtual machine off the coast of another host without any problem.

    Everyone knows this?

Migration of virtual machines are not recommended when the ESX Server host enters the maintenance or Standby Mode

Do not perform a migration of virtual machines completely automated out of a host in maintenance mode or standby mode, if the level of VMware HA failover is violated after that the host is in the required mode. This restriction applies if strict HA admission control is enabled or not.

    LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 = 'LOCATION = /disk1/archive'
About the LOCATION of keyword, the documentation says
The LOCATION keyword specifies an operating system specific path name
Cannot give us just a destination filesystem as/u04/arch_logs without the keyword RENTAL. What is the advantage in specifying the keyword LOCATION?

The keyword LOCATION allows us to specify the destination for the archived redo log files local. If you use LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1(1-10) you keyword LOCATION State (when you want to redo in the local server log files)
If you use the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST parameter, you can omit the keyword LOCATION. See the following example:

  • After the maintenance mode...

Is it possible to have the kickoff esx a vmotion by other hosts in the cluster so that the load is distributed evently through the three hosts?  at present, obviously after having worn the machine out of the way now, he'll just stand there without all the hosts until the drs decides to migrate a host here or there, but I'm looking for a way for her just balance things automatically.

The feature you describe is DRS, you have. If she is not acting aggressive enough, there is a slider for this control in your cluster settings.

  • Questions about maintenance mode

I have some curious (probably dumb) questions on the service mode (esxi worm 51).

    • What is exactly?
    • What happens if you run the patch similar to ' esxcli software vib /vmfs/volumes/datastore/patch_zipfile.zip d install "without putting it in maintenance mode?
    • What happens if you put maintainece mode, install the patch, and then out of maintenance mode before restart? The reason behind this is so that the virtual machines will autostart.

These are just curious of rhetorical questions.

    Thank you!

    Arch

All the maintenance mode has really is sure no VMs are running. In an environment of DRS, VM will migrate automatically away, basically saying maintenance mode "do not put a machine virtual here, is about to have some work." Without the DRS maintenance mode will fail and advise you to move the virtual machines yourself.

Some patches require no maintenance mode and install fine. Those who demand the it will error and refused to apply without maintenance mode.

In the third scenario, the machines will be autostart

Everything by applying the patch Patch 18345006 as explained in Doc 1981206.1 , in the phase to apply it, I get the error

    AutoPatch error:

You must be in Maintenance Mode to apply the patches.

You can use the AD Administration utility to set the Maintenance Mode.

I'm on Oracle EBS 12.2.4, Windows 2008 R2 x 64, 2 appl_tops not shared and the error occurs on the primart node.

    How I applied the patch

adoption phase = apply patches = 18345006 = no allnodes

The issue was that my tns ifile was entered incorrectly for _PATCH entered tns. After having corrected the phase to APPLY fine.

  • Understand the Maintenance of Esxi and Standyby mode

    Dear all,

I would like to understand about maintenance mode, for example, I have two hosts in a cluster and I need to update the firmware on A host. Now, before I do that I want to migrate the virtual machine to host B, then now host A is free. Now I can immediately turn off host A and start the procedure of firmware upgrade OR first of all I have to say for this host go into maintenance mode and then turn off?

Secondly, I would like to have a clear understanding of the standby mode? Can I put a host in standby for the firmware update or other maintenance activities?

    Thank you

    Yes, exactly.

When you click on enter the Maintenance Mode, the host is in maintenance mode right now, but just start this task. The host will enter maintenance mode once all virtual machines are moved.

  • DELL Dimension XPS T800r CMOS Maintenance Mode worries...

Greetings, good people of the world of DELL!

I'm working on a desktop DELL Dimension XPS T800r for a neighbor.

    The original complaint: no video

Some things have changed since yesterday when I worked on it, then read on...

Here's what I've done so far in order:

    (855) 935-7526 *. Exchanged video from a well-known donor cards.  No change.

    2. the DIAGNOSTIC LEDS on the back panel has found.

3 DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS remain DARK during the start attempt.

    4. consultation documentation DELL for LIGHT codes DIAGNOSTIC.

    5. the code is: All the DARK - turns on by default.

    6. again consulted the DELL documentation to identify what to do:

    (a) reinstall microprocessor

    (b) remove all the expansion cards

    7. After you do both.  No change.

8 using the prior computer knowledge, I pulled ALL of the motherboard except the feeding fittings and connections on the front panel.  I unplugged all connectors power hard drive as well.  I left only the CPU fan connected to the motherboard.  I checked the power supply against DELL standards and all is good.

    9. now, knowing the CMOS batteries, I checked the voltage on board.  He was 3.1VDC.  Seems good.  I didn't want to remove it, so in order to make sure it's properly plugged in, I turned the battery making to create a better connection.  That's where things have changed since yesterday...

10 leave the BARE Board, I plugged it in to the power supply.  Silence.  Only the yellow led on the motherboard lit up.

    11. I installed the CPU and VIOLA!, LIGHTS flash YELLOW for a second DIAGNOSIS, and both fans turn quickly upward, then will stop altogether.  The yellow led on the motherboard remains on.

12 DELL documentation contains this code to represent: card system is powered,
but the BIOS is not executed.

    13. I think turn battery CMOS created a better connection (the computer IS almost 16 years old) giving me a response to market now.

    14. I tried to reinstall everything and document what happens after turning the power on.  Nothing changes beyond this point.  LIGHTS DIAGNOSTIC flash YELLOW briefly, and the power supply and fan rotation CPU for a second, then stop.

15 DELL documentation suggests putting the system in MAINTENANCE MODE by the CMOS jumper

This computer is almost 16 years old, and very probably, the owner has not saved the BIOS settings.

This is what is installed, before the Panel:

    A CD-ROM drive

    An IOMEGA Zip drive

    A floppy drive

    Now to the question:

Since I have no way to backup or recover the CMOS settings, I hesitate to put the jumper to MAINTENANCE MODE to see if the computer will boot all the way to the top.  I'm not potentially make the computer unusable in maintenance or replacing the battery mode, even though I would replace the battery because of the line due to age.

    The DELL documentation:

NOTICE: Pass by the maintenance mode returns all settings in the
Installer system to their default values. Dell highly recommends
that you save or print the current settings before entering in this
mode, so you can fix them when the system is reset to normal
    mode.

What do you think will happen if I reset the default BIOS by moving the jumper and replacing the battery?

I will cause a catastrophic failure?

Now, the other side of the coin is that the system is relatively basic, so I have to enter the starting sequences and other isn't a big deal.  I hope...

At worst, I'll have to use a drive caddy to retrieve its data from the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for all your help and support!

    Austin Cajiao

In case it helps someone, re-seats maps microprocessor and expansion got the computer fully functional again.  I guess that for a computer in 16 years, the tabs or oxidize some and created resistance which forbade the computer recognition and power.  It works fine now.

  • 11i maintenance Mode

I have some confusion on maintenance mode while using adpatch: -.
Adpatch assistance to put the application in maintenance mode before the fix is applied: -.
    Oracle recommends: -.
    (1) termination of the application.
    (2) activate the Maintenance Mode.
    (3) patch.
    (4) turn off the Maintenance Mode.
    (5) start application.

I am aware that maintenance mode means conceptual * "feature from the maintenance mode stop Workflow Business event system and implements the security function so that no Oracle Applications functions are available to the user."

My question is if we bring any application then anyway workflow will be down, application is not available, so no safety issue (for as much as the feared front end), why oracle has developed the concept of bringing the instance in maintenance mode. Response may be to set the correction process, but can someone tell me how it was achieved? What is its internal functioning, how maintenance mode attaches the patching process? If any note or any document so please let me know.

    Thank you

  • SX20 running in maintenance mode

    Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my camera of telepresence SX20 (TC6).

It runs in mode of maintenance for 2 days.

    No one has changed nothing.

Do you know how to fix it please?

Have you tried to do a reboot? This could be the silver bullet that works in 90% of cases.

The maintenance mode starts if the system crashed for some reason any and without

interaction, that he would stay like that.

If you restart the system, and it starts again at the maintenance mode, please try to do a reset to factory default.

Please remember useful frequency responses and identify useful or correct answers.
