Questions about maintenance mode

I have some curious (probably dumb) questions on the service mode (esxi worm 51).

  • What is exactly?
  • What happens if you run the patch similar to ' esxcli software vib /vmfs/volumes/datastore/patch_zipfile.zip d install "without putting it in maintenance mode?
  • What happens if you put maintainece mode, install the patch, and then out of maintenance mode before restart? The reason behind this is so that the virtual machines will autostart.

These are just curious of rhetorical questions.

Thank you!

Arch

All the maintenance mode has really is sure no VMs are running. In an environment of DRS, VM will migrate automatically away, basically saying maintenance mode "do not put a machine virtual here, is about to have some work." Without the DRS maintenance mode will fail and advise you to move the virtual machines yourself.

Some patches require no maintenance mode and install fine. Those who demand the it will error and refused to apply without maintenance mode.

In the third scenario, the machines will be autostart

I was going to put a host in maintenance mode and then stop it.  It has a few models and virtual computers, but nothing works.  When I choose to spend in maintenance mode, it offers the possibility to "evacuate power off" VMs.  Do I need to do?  These virtual machines are not necessary today, once I have finished, I want to feed them back to the top.  I want to leave them on the host, if I can, but I don't want to lose them.

you do not have to evacuate the powere doff Vms - they will be there when you go back to the host.

  • question of maintenance mode

I need to close my clusters 2 and VM running under them.  I put the host in Maintenance mode before closing them? I think to close all VM and then stop host.  any advice would be appreciated.

If I disable the HA and then shut down the virtual machine, then how it will work when I put them online after an upgrade? These virtual machines will register on a single host when they were closed? thnx

Yes, the virtual machine if they are turned off on your host, once the upgrade has completed, put simply all VM under tension and then reactivate HA in the cluster.

  • Questions about airplane Mode

    I have 3 questions.

1 when airplane mode is on, the phone still rings for the appellant? The phone rings at all when I got it?

    2. can I still accept text messages? Or what can I send messages?

    3. can I activate Wifi and go on some applications that need Wifi? Like a cat App?

    Thank you.

1, 2. Airplane mode turns off all radios. You cannot make or receive calls or messages.

    3. you activate the WiFi. All the apps that need WiFi should still work.

  • Question about screen mode > Normal

I'm relatively new to InDesign and just can't work on why I see these blue bars next to a block of text, I don't see it when I pass in preview mode. Any ideas? Sorry if this is a fundamental issue.

    Hi Mark,

you have enabled "Style substitute highlighter", a new InDesign CC 2015.3 device which would indicate if there is a difference between the used character style or a paragraph style and the actual formatting characters or the whole paragraph.

You can enable/disable for example. in your paragraph Styles Panel or your character Styles Panel.

BTW. The blue bar at the edge of your text block indicates a substitution of the whole paragraph.

  • Questions about an average of response spectrum and frequency of feeding mode.

    Hello

I have a few questions about an average of mode. When I generate a sinusoidal signal from one output to two input channels channel to see if my DAQ card works well and vector averaged in the power spectrum for DFT, the amplitudes was different from the previous one of the amplitude, which was supposed to be 1 v peak. They range from 0.5 v to 0.6 v peak. When the calculation of the average model is RMS, the amplitudes were close to 1. I wonder what are the fomulas of RMS and average vector. Does that mean that I could not accurate if I use an average of vector? In a time of frequency response, why I coherences of difference and the amplitudes using the vector and the mean quadratic value?

    Thank you

    Ningyu

    rico1985,

The differences in modes of generation are as they sound: 1 sample output only a sample writing, N samples will be released however many samples configure you for each entry, and the continuous samples released samples continuously until a specified user action happens (you press the stop button or a logic that you created gets fulfulled). The range of Signal output allows you to set a ceiling high and low level of your output signal and it only affects the quality keeping in this beach. Timing to set a deadline for the time between the acquisition of the sample. If a new sample becomes unavailable before the timeout setting, you will get an error. This is useful for looking at a network, because if the network goes down and you stop getting data from a machine and then you would like to know about it. I point you to those videos that are short tutorials on how to make the most of these actions in SignalExpress. The SignalExpress 3.0 Help file is also your first point of contact for all your questions on getting started. These two resources should get you up and running in SignalExpress in no time. (either by the way all your questions answered using these resources) Bravo!

  • Question on the Maintenance Mode

When you select "Shutdown" or "Reboot" in the vClient, I get the following message:

"The host is not in maintenance mode. Are you sure that you want to, stop, or restart >? »

I looked in the manual and it does not need the ESXi host in maintenance mode before you shut down or restart.

I would like to confirm that there is no harm to execute an action when NOT in maintenance mode.

    Thank you

This is more than a warning.  If you have guests running on your host computer, they will both go down.  But if you have no guests, no harm.

  • Can you change what core is vmotion ports without going into maintenance mode?

If you have a host running, with a vswitch standard, can you change what port kernel manages vMotion without putting it in maintenance mode?

What is happening is that we have a number of blades, all running vSphere 5.1.  Each host has a unique vSwitch with multiple groups of ports and a dedicated port vmkernal for vmotion and another dedicated one for the management network.  We use a VLan to separate the vmotion network.

Our networking group will do a reconfiguration that will change the VLan dedicated for the vmotion.  What I would like to check the vmotion network management for each host, clear the check box on the Group of ports "vmotion".  The new vmotion VLAN is set up by the network, and then I go back and make the changes on each slide so that the "vmotion" is now enabled and remove the functions of vmotion for the management port.

I know that it is not recommended to run the vmotion traffic on the management port network, but it will only be short term (probably a week or two).  My biggest concern is whether I can make changes 'live' without affecting the machines running.

In a note related, if a host loses contact with other hosts on the network vmotion, which will pose a problem (in addition to not being able to vmotion)?  Will be the loss of connectivity on only the port of vmotion cause any kind of response of isolation, failover, etc.. ?

Basically, you can modify most of the settings of network - including vMotion - without affecting the virtual machine. When you say that they reconfigure VLANS, do you know how long it will take and if the VLAN current will be available during this time? In this case, you would not have to implement no work around, but just update the VLAN groups of vMotion ESXi host ports.

    André

PS: about your question "will be the loss of connectivity on only the port of vmotion cause any kind of response of isolation, failover, etc..?

No, it's the management network that is used for HA, so everything what he let go is vMotion/DRS.

  • Questions about Satellite P10 554

    Hello

I have 2 questions about my P10-554. I read on this forum but can't find anything that helps out me.

    First of all:
When I try to turn the unit off after working, using even the closing of xp function or the power button, windows normally quit, but when it needs to turn off just reboot again. If I repeat the closing down directly after this restart, normally it turns off.
This problem occur only when I use the power supply in battery mode.
I can't say that to me...

    Second:
I have a mini PCI Wlan card for my unit, works very well, but I wonder if it is possible to get the Wlan switch switch work whith it? Or is it only possible whith some special maps? It is not so important, but it would be nice to know if there is a trick or something to get the switch used.

    Best regards
    Gabbagandalf

    Hello

    Regarding your first question;
I'm a bit confused of m are sure you n t use the restart option?
I never noticed anything like that on my laptop

Usually, if I use the Shut down option, I can choose between standby, hibernation, restart and shutdown. If I use the stop that the laptop turns off as it should.
Maybe it's time to s for a reinstallation of the OS?

    On the second question.
The switch on the left side for laptop was designed and developed to pass on the WLan card antenna.
Usually, you should be able to use this switch and to toggle WLan card functionality

Don t understand why it should not work?  :|

  • Question about the issue of the Double NAT...

Hah I posted for a little.  I have a question about Double NAT.  Is it wise to launch?  Reason why is that I have a WRT54G v6 router and the Zoom ADSL X 4 Modem/Router/gateway and it seems that sites take just a little more time to respond to Web sites.  I just want to know I have to turn off (i.e., go in with my router bridge Mode) or what.  Or leave it alone.  Now one last thing: that the problem of slow could actually be AT & T but I have the feeling that this isn't.

What configuration options you have on the Zyxel to fill? What have you tried exactly?

The basis for the first option is:

    * Bridged Zyxel.

    * Linksys configured for PPPoE with your user name and password for the internet connection.

Instructions to fill the Zyxel are here or here depending on the exact model of Zyxel.

    The second option is:

    * Zyxel doing business as the router. I assume here that the Zyxel is on 10.0.0.2 with a subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

Unplug the Linksys to the Zyxel. Connect a computer to the Linksys. Open the web interface of the WRT to http://192.168.1.1/

    On the main Setup page:

    1. change the LAN IP of 192.168.1.1 address 10.0.0.1.

    2 disable the DHCP server.

    3. save the settings. You will lose the connection. Unplug the computer.

    4. wire one of the numbered LAN ports of the Linksys for the Zyxel. Do not use the internet port of Linksys!

Now you should be able to open the Linksys web interface to http://10.0.0.1/ all devices connected wireless of Linksys or connected to one of the three LAN ports must have a connection to the internet via the Zyxel.

  • stupid question about UAC

OK, it's a REALLY stupid question about UAC.

I have several icons on my desktop. Some of them are games that must be run as administrator in XP compatibility mode.

I rarely accidentally tried to open the icon, particularly if you use the keyboard to choose what I want.

Is there a reason if I accidentally open a game that pushes me in height DO NOT hit 'Cancel' if I didn't intend to play the game at the moment, but trying to open something else? Something like a process being left in suspense, memory leaks, or any other reason why I can't Abort to launch the application to the UAC prompt?

    Hey, Slick,

Clicking Cancel will prevent the running total process if you do not have to worry about the still ongoing services for memory leaks or game, etc..
    I hope this helps.
  • A few questions about my new Z5 Compact camera

A few days ago I bought the Xperia Z5 Compact (and updated the marshmallow) to replace my Z1 Compact and meanwhile read the manual and looked into the camera settings. Now I have 2 questions about the camera.

    (1) according to this manual, it takes an option to 'adjust the color and brightness manually. I rember having seen this option once in the form of 2 sliders, but now I cannot reproduce it more and find more options in the settings. What should I do wrong or overlooking?

    (2) I noticed that I can manually put only iso for resolution of 8 MP or less. When I put a 20 MP resolution, the iso setting is grayed and automatically the value. Is this a normal behavior?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

    Hi @Rijnton,

I just tested this on my Xperia X but it runs on Android M, it should be similar to the Z5 Compact (although there may be some differences).

Color and brightness options may not be available in manual mode, but are for higher Auto and video.

  • Technical questions about X 1 carbon Touch base

Please forgive me, I'm still recovering after the shock and frustration generated by dealing with Lenovo Tech Support.

I recently received my X 1 carbon Touch and I have tried to understand some - I think - fundamental questions.

As you know, to win 8, Lenovo doesn't have a custom recovery solution / owner. However, there are a score of Lenovo recovery on the machine. I'm /assuming/ this, somehow, can be used through the default / built-in mechanisms of recovery Windows, but I want to know exactly how without necessarily experiencing myself with it.

In addition, the computer seems to be equipped with a mechanism of alternative stand-by, fast recovery called Intel or something like that. It is enabled in the BIOS and apparently makes use of a hidden partition of ~ 8 GB on the SSD. However, I find no indication of this mechanism working. There are no settings that I could find in Windows. I changed the BIOS to 'Immediately' setting in order to test the functionality, but put the computer to sleep does not seem to generate behavior that is somehow different from regular sleep.

In any case, I would like advice or information on my questions above. I understand works the thing of recovery fast in order to decide if I want to recover the partition or not. I would also like to know my options I should never need re - install the delivered factory OS without actually crossed the steps. I would also if someone could tell me the best way to get support from Lenovo.

/ * I called Lenovo technical support with these issues. The person sponsor and those to whom I then was sent to had no idea what I was talking about. They had difficulty understanding terms like partition, standby, sleep, resume, and even software/hardware and implementation. It was suggested that my computer may be Intel and Lenovo not... They seemed to really come from an age of the computer. I asked to speak with someone who would have some basics of the machine that Lenovo delivered to me. I find it reasonable. At that time, I was told to talk to a knowledgeable person, I have to pay a fee. Seriously?

    */

    elfstone,

To find out how to work the various Windows recovery methods, please see this Microsoft Web site:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-PC

The sole purpose of the recovery partition is to work with the "All delete and reinstall Windows" function of Windows 8.  If you have specific questions about the factory recovery that you can't get items from Microsoft, let me know.

Regarding the plan of hibernation from Intel, as you noted, it takes a partition dedicated to your SSD which cannot be used for other purposes.  The only parameter in Windows is inside the application of arrangements of Lenovo in the power section.  Lenovo calls this function "in waiting for 30 days.  The only thing you can do is it turn on or off.  Here's how works "waiting for 30 days:

    1. When you close the lid, or otherwise put the system into standby mode, the system of standby for 3 hours.

03:02 hours, the system will wake up and check things like not attached AC, wake-on-LAN not activated, USB device not attached, etc..  If conditions permit, the system will enter wakefulness of 30 days for example deep sleep.  If the system returns in normal mode to 'sleep'.

    3. deep sleep means that the content of the memory is written on the special hibernation on the SSD partition.  It is very similar to the traditional hibernation except what happens faster using methods of BIOS instead of Windows methods.  But this isn't anywhere near as fast as normal sleep/recovery.

    4. the system out of deep sleep when the cover is opened or when you press the power button.

You have found the BIOS settings, but in fact they are ignored when Lenovo settings (and package of dependence of the Lenovo parameters) are installed on the system.  I don't really know why this design choice has been made.

Personally, I don't see value in 30 days standby, not enough value to want to give up my expensive SSD 8 GB.  I exclusively use sleep/recovery.  The battery will last several days.  And if I'm going to be away from the computer for a long time, then I'll just stop it.

  • General questions about errors in eventvwr

    Greetings.

I have a general question about some failed modules are stored in the Windows Event Viewer.

An error leading to the crashes some applications that I've seen several times now when supporting computer problems is something like this:
(Windows error reporting) Fault bucket, Type 0, name of the event: PCA2, (...) P1: application.exe, (...)

I wonder what this 'PCA2. Which is a kind of module Windows handles tasks such as allocating memory or smth. Like this? What could be the cause of these errors (physical memory problems / corrupt swap file / insufficient rights?)

Same Question for the application falls down because of "kernelbase.dll" as in:
(Application error) Failing application: application.exe, Version: 0.0.0.0, (...) Failed module: KERNELBASE.dll, Version: 6.1.7601.18015, (...) Path of the failing module: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll (...)

What is the .dll file and what could possibly cause kernelbase.dll Fault?

The application can be a bit buggy, but I wonder what could possibly cause these accidents and if there is a way to fix these problems - or what dev did wrong.

The two errors occur mainly on x 64 systems - especially Windows 7/vista

    Kind regards

With application errors, the application is called everything first and the module he collaborated with is named second. Normally you should try to reinstall the application if you see not to repeat the mistakes. If this does not work, you go to the forum on the application to see if other users see the same error. There may be a bug in the application.

The observer of the Application event log contains Information reports (event ID: 1001) for errors where the details were sent to Microsoft for review. You will find that there are corresponding to the event ID: 1000 reports errors, either in the system or Application logs. These reports are also included in the center of the Action. Center type action in the area of research above the Start button and press ENTER. Click on the arrow pointing downwards to the right of Maintenance, and then click view reliability history. The errors reported are the Red orbs with a white cross. You can search for solutions to problems, but occasionally you get a significant response from Microsoft.

I can't tell you what it means PCA2. Google did not find a significant result. The reports themselves are not unintelligible, although I have never tried to understand the meaning of a particular report. I have extracted what, in my view, is a starting point of two reports:
    Event name: PCA2 = P1: motherboard_utility_onoffchargesetup.exe P2: 4.65.0.0

    Event name: PCA2 = P1: setup.exe P2: 11.0.0.28844

You have the app in the boredom and the version of the file. These details have been extracted a file of information system to a computer with a card mother Gigabyte. So, you see I have a starting point, if I wanted to determine the cause of a failure.

I will say before you go dive deep into each event ID: 1001 report that many are not easy to even begin to understand. However, they can provide useful clues.

KERNELBASE.dll is likely to be the module with which the application works. You need to focus on the application.  KERNELBASE is probably preceded by P3 or P4 in the report?

General remarks on the event viewer:
