Question the Outlook Express Outbox

Using Outlook Express my email is sent, but often it will interfere in the Outbox. This generates an alert and causes shots extra keys to remove from the Outbox (even if the email is gone). Thank you.

You have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox, and then create the new box of sent, and sent items folders after that you move any message you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Information on the maximum size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:
http://support.Microsoft.com/?kbid=903095

Compact often as specified above.

In tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in the background box and let it unchecked. {N/a if running XP/SP2}.

And backup often.

  • After transfer from XP to Win7 I don't see on the Outlook Express folder

I am convert Outlook Express on Windows XP running on Thunderbird running on Windows 7. I installed Thunderbird on my XP computer and took the import of Outlook Express which created the Outlook Express import file that does contain not all emails that I wanted to remember. I installed Thunderbird on my Windows 7 computer and copied the Windows XP profile folder. Because profile names were different, I changed the value in the profile.ini file as well as in the parameter settings in Thunderbird to match this copied value. However, I don't see the folder Outlook Express from Thunderbird. If I navigate under the profile folder structure I see the Outlook Express import records. Any help in accessing these data would be useful. Since I was still all the data on my XP machine I can if necessary reinstall Thunderbird.

Eureka! I tried a finish and it worked. Tools > import. Then I selected mail only > next > Outlook Express and then I sailed to the Outlook Express folder already under the folder Thunderbird Mail and even if he says nothing has been imported the structure of this file and I can see and access emails from Outlook Express.

  • When I click on anything it either in the Outlook Express Preview window to stop answer and I have use the ctrl-alt-del combination for her all over again.

When I click on anything it either in the Outlook Express Preview window to stop answer and I have use the ctrl-alt-del combination for her all over again. Anyone out there have the same problem? If so what did you do about it.

Original title: I'm under Oulook Express 6 Windows XP Home SP3 environment.

    Bruce:

The problem has been fixed (I think) but in a most unusual way. Let me explain.

When I was closing down to give the computer a rest yesterday, there was a pop up saying that vprotector expected to close. He really wanted the process of closing until I clicked on finish the process. Curious to know what vprotector is, I searched on the net and got a lot of shots, saying: it is a virus and should be deleted pronto. So I searched the hard drive for the vprot. * and found in the folder program files for AVG!

I then went to AVG to see if it's really a part of AVG and they said yes. If there is a problem with vprot, the toolbar is at fault and needs to be reinstalled. There was one click here to download and run the part of the program to fix the problem. However, I had WebRoot antivirus running that stopped the download of this program as a virus. Because I trust AVG, I've disabled WebRoot and reinstalled the AVG search bar.

I haven't restarted WebRoot and computer flying along as it should, and OE is the link to IE when I click on a link as it has always done.

Seems to me to be the faulty AVG toolbar and a cross with two virus programs upward was at fault. Thank you for your time. Your reply gave me a chance to think differently this problem could arise.

Computers are really complicated machines and we have to be complicated to deal with their problems.

    Thanks again,

    Fred

  • MSIMN.exe is missing from the Outlook Express folder. I have XP SP3 and IE 8.

MSIMN.exe is missing from the Outlook Express folder which has 11 files it contains.  OE has never been installed.   I have XP Pro SP 3 IE 8.

I bought a Dell 5 years computer and it works well. I have no e-mail program, and none has ever been installed. It seems that I only have Outlook (not installed) but I really want/need from OE 6.   MSIMN.exe is XP and is not downloadable from Ms.  Help!

It may be a hidden file.  Make sure you have these active under control panel | Folder options | View.

And go to start | Run and type (or copy and paste):

    "C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe".

I don't see what Windows 8 build must do with OE on a XP machie. Have you tried to download?

Right click on the desktop | New | Shortcut. Navigate to "c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe". Click next | Click Finish.  It will be a new shortcut on the desktop.

  • How can I move the outlook express emails from an XP PC to an another XP PC that has the same e-mail address without overwriting existing messages on this second PC?

How can I move the outlook express emails from an XP PC to an another XP PC that has the same e-mail address without overwriting existing messages on this second PC?

I need to group together all messages from e-mail in a PC and to retire the first PC.

This could be problematic. I guess or OE is over? This would make it easy.

One thing you could do requires some manual work, but much less removal of dupes. For example, the Inbox. In the machine, you are going to scrap, create a new folder and move all messages in your Inbox to it. After you import on the other machine, you can drag the messages you need this folder in the Inbox, and then remove the user created the folder.

And then there are tools to remove the dupes. This one for example.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • How to restore the Outlook Express e-mail messages

I needed to do a 'clean' of my OS, XP Pro SP3 install.  So I ran a back up prior to the re - install on an external hard drive.  I used integrated firm ware of the external hard drive to perform the back upward.

After the re-install, I want to get some of the e-mail messages.  I can't find the external hard disk Outlook Express folder, but nothing in the folder has the appearance of a file that is an e-mail message.

This makes me wonder, where Outlook Express to save e-mail messages, anyway?  Then maybe I could identify the record or file to restore.

I hope someone can help me with some advice.

  • How can I have my default server (ATT) e-mail format, windows XP (which I want to keep as a default), replace the Outlook Express window when I'm tryin for a company whose I am the web site e-mail browzing?

Currently, when I'm browzeing a website and click on their email option to write, I always get the format of Outlook Express. I have it fill my msg, click on send - he's trying to send but don't market not to go. I just get a msg of error that server is not found.

According to Bruce, you get to make it appear the webmail interface to the AT & T mail server.  To work around the problem, you can either a configuration for AT & T account in OE under Tools | Accounts | Add | By mail, or if you want to do, when he evokes the new OE message by clicking on the mailto link, then just copy the e-mail address in the window of the EO, close it and compose a new message and paste this link into the email field.

Webmail is not configured to be able to handle mailto links.  This is why they have separate e-mail programs.

  • Where can I find the Outlook Express Mail Server name Info

original title; Outlook Express Mail Server name Info

How to check or enter the name of the server for Outlook Express? I get an error message indicating that I entered the server name correctly but I don't know how to correct it. My mail will never be out fo. I have photos I am trying to send to Snapfish and they will not download.

I've never used Snapfish, but I don't see where this has nothing to do with Outlook Express, an e-mail client. While glancing at their website, it seems that you download photos from your computer as you would to Photobucket or SkyDrive, you do not send by e-mail their. You should not need to use any e-mail program to achieve this.
