Questions about service packs

My friends laptop resonance had some problems bad windows which culminated in him having to reinstall windows. I have an Edition Vista Home premium 64-bit SP1 CD, which is what he needs. We could get is the product key and what version of windows he used, however, I don't check was service packs it a. say it was service pack 2, would be that we have problems during installation?

If this is a clean install, it makes no difference.

The hard disk will be wiped.

Read this info regarding Service Pack levels, if a repair upgrade installation:

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to swap the disk to upgrade to a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk to upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have installed.

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/948537

"How to uninstall Windows Vista service packs"

If the OS installed Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 1 upgrade disk > uninstall SP2 installed operating system > install the upgrade > reinstall SP2.

And run the upgrade of a Vista operating system.

32-bit to 64-bit and 64-bit to 32-bit is a clean install, not an upgrade, if you have different versions of ILO.

See you soon.

I have a HP 8540p running Windows 7.  For these last months, I had something running in the background that consumes 25% of the processor.  This continues for an extended period - about - 30 minutes and then stops.  It is a SYSTEM process running under svchost.exe in which there are a number of processes that don't mean anything to me, but they all have a PID of 1092.  This does not seem to hurt, (other than the fan by executing on my laptop), but I find it annoying.  Can someone explain what is happening, what are these processes?

  • Download and install Vista Service Pack 2 - difficulties.

So, I posted this in another forum, but told me to re-post here with more info... but I have no more.  I'll just re-post I posted in the other and see if someone here can help me.  Thank you!

I don't get an error downloading the service pack, but my computer restarts.  I know, they say that it might restart several times, but Windows is trying to start mode safe because it has not been closed properly.  I tried three times, three times all automatic updates.  Twice I restarted in safe mode, it and tried to determine what the problem was, but could not.  I know that the error codes and the help of stuff, but I have not write everything, and I don't want to continue to have my computer turned off properly.  Another time I ignored the recommendation in Mode safe and started Windows normally.  He said it was configuration updates, but he stopped even before it began, and the update is still waiting to be downloaded and installed.  If anyone has any information that they think will help, that would be great.  I know I don't have a lot of valuable information, but whatever it is would be helpful.
    Thank you.

Well, I went to try to reinstall and cull all error messages and download it no matter what, but now Windows will not start.  Nothing has actually been installed, I think not, because the installation process is always interrupted.  I ran the fixer thing turning and I tried to restore to an earlier point, but he could not know what the problem was, and he could not restore the computer to an earlier date.  I was planning to do a while system restore and losing all my files, I don't have many of them.  But I don't want to have to go through the motions again downloaded and installed massive amounts of updates needed.  Does anyone have advice so that maybe I won't have to do?  Thank you.

Thank you, guys.  I know that I don't give a lot of information...

  • Vista Service Pack 2 - Cannot install

I have 3 computers, one is Vista Pro, one is Vista Ultimate Edition and a Home editions and on different machines e.g. Sony laptop computer, HP and an Acer. Three are set to perform the automatic download of updates through Microsoft Update and all three fired in Vista Service Pack 2 and the installation failed and referred me http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 which in turn installs the update of Windows Vista 32 bit system analysis tool. Who won't install and therefore fails to get what she was supposed to find defects preventing the Vista Service pack work.
It's on three different machines, so it has to be a phenomenon of great. It cannot be just me.
There are already countless reports on this forum of the incompatibility issues with the previous updates that must be eliminated, installers windows that need to be repaired and other settings before installation not to mention now reported post blue screen installation. It is to whip up quickly to be a properly tested beta ServicePack. This has not happened once before with Windows 2000 SP2 or 3.
Anyone working on a solution to this problem?

    Hello

Since that is the same on all 3 machines I think Antivirus, general corruption and driver problems.

Try this on one of the machines.

Put to update your drivers, download the stand-a-lone version, disable the antivirus and right click on it
    RUN AS ADMIN.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - note the brand and complete model of your
video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now click on UPdate Driver (this
cannot do anything as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then do a right click - Uninstall - REBOOT
This will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party with their
own the software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now go to the site of the manufacturer of system (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (restoration) and then of the manufacturer of the device
(Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for the BIOS, Chipset and software)
updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - tab drivers version you install actually shows up. This
because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (particularly that audio drivers) so install a
pilot - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat if necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW on device at the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - manually check by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver in the Windows updates,
This leaves ONE of Windows updates, but it will not install the drivers who are generally older and cause
questions. If updates offers a new driver and then hide it (right click on it) and then go look for new ones
    manually if you wish.
