Questions of legality of fonts

Most of the fonts, including those built in windows seem to have either difficult to find, very complex or very expensive licenses for commercial use in an application with editable text.

My question is, what fonts are safe to use? Can I use Arial without any problem? I thought Microsoft fonts have been pretty much public domain, but further research shows otherwise.

I could REALLY use some help with this sort.

You do not have a license to use a font, only to distribute.  As you do not distribute these fonts inside your .bar, you do not need a license.  All are preinstalled on the Tablet and available for any application to use.

Here is the complete list of 0.9.4.  Of course, what it is in the Beta SDK is subject to change without notice by the final version, but I hope that it will be stable enough (probably only additions, if applicable and no absorption).  We got confirmation that Myriad Pro is without a doubt to the default font now.

  • Legal MT font family - missing, so the file cannot be opened

We have received an email, well let's say it seems a bit suspicious, he said that it is from a law firm (Googling the Agency has confirmed that there is such an undertaking) and pretending that we have broken some laws, with an attachment that submits to the fine for virus.

In any case, the attachment is a PDF file, which cannot be opened, a javascript warning came suggesting that we lack "Legal MT font family".

Is it still a family of fonts in Adobe? Anyone who has heard this or I guess this is more likely to be a fake and not legitimate would be correct?

Anyone else seen something similar or learn more on this subject? Any comments would be appreciated.

Do not try to search and download this font. Search Google can bring you to fontuniverse dot xyz site that allows you to download the font. But it is not a font, it's a ransomware!

So, delete the PDF file and inform your staff about this.

  • Freelance Business Question: Who pays for fonts?

I'm still pretty new in this freelance racket (and therefore still quite poor). If I need to acquire a specific font for a project, I'm supposed to pay for it, or is it OK to pass this cost on to the customer?

    Thank you!

    ~ Valerie

I don't think that the issue is the font file itself should be passed, but the acquisition cost there.

I'm probably NOT the typical freelance, but that's how I would handle it...

Include a charge for the police (at cost) on the invoice for the work, if not quite common fonts that you just can't seem to have, so that the client knows that you had to spend money to complete the work, then, if it is a police is generally useful that you can use again for another work , discount the full amount (you do not charge clients for your other fonts you?).

If the police will likely never be used for anyone but this customer, you have three options, based on how much the customer is likely to be for your business:

    1) discount all the cost on the first Bill as a show of good faith, especially if the rest of the billing of the project will cover the cost of the policy, or it's an established customer.

    (2) discount part of the cost on each of the invoices of several, perhaps the first three, they continue to do business with you. (Worst case here, it is that you eat the first slice discount if you never see the cleint once again, but you earn points to be willing to invest in your tools, even if they are not really useful)

    (3) Bill all the costs without a discount.

I would use this last option only for a large company with a large budget which is expected to pay for this kind of thing, or if you have discussed the need to purchase a policy with the client in advance. Most of my clients are very small businesses, individuals or non-profit with a small budget and I dream of tights with fees for a few hundred dollars for a font I could use again. This actually happened to me last year, with one of my profit, and I ate the cost of a policy to rebuild their logo ($170), even if they use it any other way. Billing for labor was $187,50, so I ended up making a very small amount of money for three hours, I put in the work, including the time it takes to identify the font, but they keep sending me work once or twice a year that pays very well.

  • Question of InDesign CS4 fonts - URGENT! Help, please!

I've just upgraded to a new image of iMac 27 "and all my files migrated on. I was in the middle of a vast project of InDesign and have more than 30 files InDesign that I created on my iMac 24 "old.

Now, here's the problem: when I open one of these InDesign files on my new iMac, it tells me that the two fonts are missing: Gill without (T1) "BOLD" and regular Gill without (T1). How this has happened, I have no idea. But these are the two fonts I use more throughout all 30 records, resulting in 199 errors for each file because of these two fonts 'disappeared '.

Now when I try to change font Gill Sans Bold and Gill without regular (not T1), it is the same, but the spacing is a fraction of an inch more grand that translates into tens of words on each file being pushed to the next line, which obviously in chaos.  Someone has an idea of what is happening here and how remedy. I used on my 24 "iMac, Leopard and now the new 27" I'm on a Snow Leopard if that makes a difference with the installed fonts - but all my files have been migrated on transfer via Firewire auto so the two systems should be the same!  I'd be super grateful if you could help because right now, I'm screwed!

This is a type 1 font.

Check the folder InDesign/fonts on the old machine or... just go back to the old machine and package the file.

  • What determines the fonts available in Options | Police | Police source window?

In all my other IDEs (Visual Studio, WDSCi), I used a font of ProggyClean-Slashed-Zero-Bold-Punctuation-monospaced (http://www.proggyfonts.com/index.php?menu=download) who made my life a little bit more easy.  But in LabWindows/CVI 9 I don't only have right to choose from a limited list of fonts.  How can I get my police Proggy?  Alternatively, a better question, what determines which fonts are listed in this selection?

    Thank you!!

    I thought about it!

I maintain programs written to the Japan that must be changed for our US systems.  Therefore, I usually use Japanese Windows XP with my language of non-Unicode default value system.  Japanese text in the comments in the code source appear in the case, as the boxes.

When I'm in Japanese mode, I have only a dozen monospaced fonts available.  But earlier, I switched to English and have a * ton *, including my favorite Proggy!  But the solution is not good... I * have * to run in Japanese mode to do my job.

I'd love to beta test a fix for this!  There must be some language check is against policies, and regardless of who does not openly support the current language of the system must be excluded from the plan.  Just a guess.

Any ideas on how I can get this works when I switch in Japanese fashion?  I'll try to now and we hope it stays...

  • Font is no longer included in CS6

A number of years, I bought the original version of CS, which includes medium weight and medium weight Adobe Garamond Pro italic versions.  I finally lost the contents of the computer on which it was installed - I was able to recover my data files, all the files of program (including the police files) were lost.  Recently, I bought a new computer and I bought cs6.  I see that these specific fonts are no longer included.  Given that I've used in some of my old documents, is somewhat a problem.  In view of the fact that I've owned a legal copy fonts (under the purchasing CS), is possible to get them other than to buy them again?  Thank you.

    Robert Rothman

These policies, if part of the deliverable of the first Adobe CS, should be included in the original Setup CD.

  • Arial fonts in PDFs former problems!  {Inside photos}

    Hi all.

This is the problem as much as I can explain it!

I have pdf files that were created on a Mac origanally (I use Win 7) using the Arial Narrow font family.  I read all of the posted questions

the policy of Arial Narrow problems, but none solved the problem.  Here are the screenshots of what, in my view, could be the cause.

When I look at the properties in Acrobat for the PDF in question, here's what fonts appear.

    props.jpg

The only font that correctly displays is true font type Arial Black.  Type1 ArialNarrow views

as shown in the image below. Another thing to note: notice how ArialNarrow is one word?

Is this perhaps why Illustrator is having a problem with it?  I tried to find it with no luck.

When opened in Illustrator CS2, it is what is displayed.

    127.jpg

The fonts are in my repertoire of fonts in Windows and Illustrator.  I even loaded the old 2.35

a version which is mentioned on the net.

The problem is that I have hunderds these documents some with more than 200 pages each.  I messed up

with this for several days now and I am at a loss of what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Mark

Substitution of fonts in Illustrator by using Type > find font is not going to work.

If you look at the screenshots, you will see that the fonts are CID fonts with custom coding. The fonts on the computer of brands have probably ANSI encoding (for example standard Western character set) and character cards will not match. So you will not get text legible but just squares or other things (diamonds, points etc.)

Mark sent me a file to look at and here's what I wrote in direct e-mail to him.

The problem is that the PDF was made directly from InDesign, which converts the fonts fonts CID (normally used for Asian fonts such as Chinese, Japanese and Korean) and, in so doing, he created a table of characters (encoding) that is not compatible with our ordinary fonts that use the character of Western (ANSI) encoding. Which explains why the replacement police incorporated by one on your system does not work.

There is some info on the Adobe website at the following links:
    http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/329/329611.html
    http://InDesignSecrets.com/CID-identity-h-fonts-are-back.php
    http://forums.Adobe.com/thread/324995

Also, the problem of the CID character exists in Acrobat 7 and 8, but got solved in Acrobat 9.

The only thing that has worked to get a PDF with readable and editable text was to use an OCR program (Abby FineReader in my case, but Omnipage can do the same thing) to process the PDF and embedded fonts are basically OCR'ed use system fonts and then resave PDFs had basically the same effect that replace the embedded fonts to system fonts. After that opening the PDF file in Illustrator has normal text and the file can be changed. Although Serif DrawPlus does a better job by opening the PDF file in editable format.

In this case, the road of the OCR is an option because the PDF contained a table. If this had been a drawing that the OCR option can be less useful depending on how the OCR software manage the drawing part, unless you get the text on the PDF and reinsert it into the drawing would be sufficient.

The above information may be of some use to those who are faced with the same problem.

  • Adobe Captivate 4 Quiz (Matching) drop-down list too small font size.

    Hello

We use Adobe Captivate 4.  Quiz (matching).  Exported to SWF format.

    Hello

Formatting of the slides in Question of CP is sometimes a pain. I can't give you a correct answer, but it would be great if you filed a feature request to the team to have more control over the styles used in this drop-down list (the link is on the homepage of this forum). If we are many to demand improvements, fine higher up on the priority list.

As you've probably discovered, in the properties of the corresponding drop down lists Question slide you can change font color, the font size not. My correct solution is to choose a font that gives the best result, certain fonts really look bigger than the others. This is not always compatible with the styles in the rest of the film, but I fit all of the text in Question slides to this font.

Regret not to be able to help. Question slides are in the folder, but in SWC format, and I can not open these files, even if I installed Flash CS4. Maybe a Flash-wise guy will appear automatically in to help you.

  • Change the fonts in a PDF document

    Hello!

I would like to change the font on a PDF document, because I have to agree with some parts of it (copy in a .doc or similar)

The problem is when I do, the original font is not recognized by word processing (strange symbols).

I m trying to change the font in Adobe Acrobat Pro, but I can´t the change. the program says that (not exactly, its in Spanish)

"The change of police did not because the font chosen and the codification of fonts document´s are different and it cannot be resolved."

By clicking on properties pdf´s, I see these fonts:

    R11

    R277

    R677

All of them are 'customize' codification and type 3.

I hope that some in this forum could help me, I really need to extract text from this PDF file for work stuff.

Thank you and sorry for my bad English...

I don't know that I want to go into that. Sorry if I missed your original message. At the time wherever I went down to where I answered, I forgot some details. One thing you might try is to save in TIFF format at 300 or 400 dpi of resolution. Open the TIFF in Acrobat, can do an OCR to recover fonts. If it's a file as you suggest, then it must convert the fonts to something useful.

Otherwise, you either need to download a copy of the font in the PDF if you can find or try fonts different variations. Provide information on the types of policies that you found might help. This is where the question of Type 3 fonts was raised. Type 3 bitmap fonts are characteristic of the old systems of LaTeX and TeX. Today, most of these systems use vector fonts of Type 1.

If you could post an example page where you are having problems, maybe other suggestions could be made more timely.

If I missed something else in all of your messages, I'm sorry. The message that I am answering is only present as I answer.

  • The font size to the rendered size correlation?

Can someone point me to an explanation of the size of the font to render actual size.  I did tests to try to figure out a correlation between what is assigned as a police and the real measure of the result size.  For example, if I enter a font size of 72 pt, I expect the 1 inch high character, but it is shorter.  I can't identify the parameter that is equal to 1 ".  Framework encompassing is higher, the characters are shorter and spacing is variable a is not equal to 1 inch when set to auto.  How could specify a font size if I want the upper case characters equal to 1 "?

This was discussed and explained many times in this forum. Do a search for 'square em' (including the quotation marks) in the Illustrator forum.

    In short:

If I enter a font size of 72 pt, I expect the character 1 inch high

You wait until Barney WHO is 1 "?

    M?

    j?

    p?

    t?

    O?

What happens if the police is, say, Bickham Script? You expect the cyclical capital B, with all its trappings, to measure 1 "vertically? Why the B and not the X or the Q? All these three characters are designed to be the right size proportionally to the other, but they do not measure the same height.

What is a font designer to do? He designs type on a space called the em square, using a relative unit called the em unit. The number of units in a square em em belongs the typographer, but it is commonly 800 or 1000 or 1200. Ask "What is the measure of a unit of the Ma?" is like asking "what is the measure of a pixel? It's a question meaningless, because a pixel (and an em unit) can be any action.

When you set type and specify its size, you specify the extent to which the program will scale the police square em.

a correlation between what is assigned as a police and the real extent size

To answer this question, ask you "what font and what real measure on which character? There is no such correlation uniform. It varies between fonts. It's a good and correct thing.

Some fonts are designed with all uppercase characters, the same height. If it were, characters seems out of proportion. Round characters (O, Q, C, G, J, S) are almost always larger than the non-round characters. In some designs of type, you can normally consider not round characters are, in fact rounded (A, R, B, P, M...). In other type designs, the treatment of the serifs increase the heights of characters above what you think as the height of the capitals. In the other fonts, sharp characters (A, M, N, V, W) are larger than non-pointu characters.

  • Web page section headers are too big, content of the text is too small.

I have to make big text/content fonts so I can read comfortably, but this makes the titles of the sections on the gigantic Web pages, and does not have the whole layout.

in the opera, 10 years ago it was possible to change the size of the font of the class of the section headings (there are 6 classes/sizes of headings IIRC). the final effect is that the font size of the content was close to the font size of the title or titles on Web pages. parameter changes were made on a configuration page to designate the name of the font and sizes for proportional and monospace. for example, the title on this page of text entry is "Fill in the details of your question." and this font size are at least 3 or 4 times bigger then the topics under which ar "Question" and "Details".

so is there a way of FF to decrease the font size of the section as a global general parameter headers?

If Firefox is installed, it does not automatically create the chrome folder. You can create a new folder in your profile folder:

    C:\....\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\z7hau5ip.default

It will then appear one or more spots below bookmarkbackups.

  • What 802.11n card internal work with a Compaq CQ60-212US?

I hope to upgrade the laptop above to 802.11n, but I'm unable to find information on what the internal cards will work for her. It's an AMD Athlon X 2 sytem wiyh a Nvidia nforce chipset running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. The card he uses currently (802. 11 b / G) is a card Atheros 5007 based (part #459339-003). Base HP/Compaq made an Atheros 802.11n 5009 (manufacturer 482260-001) card which I believe may work, but my model is not listed in the compatibility list and I know that HP/Compaq are one of the companies that uses a 'white list' in the BIOS to prevent unauthorized devices to use.  I tried to ask by e-mail and they would not check the number and directed me to call their purchases as part Surfer do not have the list. I called and they said, there is one that would work but it is out of stock and they have no ETA on this subject and of course would not check the number. Any info on 802.11n cards that would work in this laptop that I would like to upgrade to high speed and that the ethernet connection is part of the chipset (even though Device Manager it ID as a 10/100/1000 is only 10/100 ) it is the only road I have so any information would be appreciated.

-After much research and hitting my head against the wall, I finally got my laptop upgraded using a HP 482260-001 internal NIC (a card Atheros 5009) based manufacturer and now have an 300Mbps connection solid of rock all the time. I know I've read a lot of the problems with this card so I thought I'd post a brief overview of what I had to do.

First - before Exchange you cards (unless you can connect to a wired LAN cable outlet) download the latest driver from HP for the Atheros card - even if this computer only provided with the card (5007 based) G the downloaded driver supports card 5009 N. depends on how do you the next step, you can save the file on a USB Flash drive.

Following installation the new card and either do a system restore to the point where the updates of Microsoft are deleted (it will mess up wireless connections - this too is a XP updates)-well mine did not for the next option was to do a full system restore to put the laptop to a 'new' State but mine has NEVER worked since the restore disks , I did or since the restore partition, so that leaves one last (option in addition to the PURCHASE of a set of disks to restore HP that they tried to sell me or uninstallation of 56 upgrades ONE BY ONE). If you know someone who has a Vista installation disc to borrow it and use the option UPGRADE to install the same version that you use the SAME key from the bottom of your laptop - this route 'upgrade' will restore your system with the original copy of Vista without losing any of your installed programs where are you got your restore to work , you would be at square one - you be the judge. Before anyone questions the legality of my last method here is the real deal - when you buy copy of Windows or a computer, you are not 'buy' Windows software - you pay for the license (as the key) to use a copy (unless you buy a copy of multi license) on a computer if Windows or use the method as long as you use YOUR key to install the SAME version of Windows is no legal - my installation activated with absolutely no problem and shows it as authentic.

OK - now if you need to re - install the driver updated for the Atheros card and at that time you should be able to connect to your wireless network. In my case, it would only connect at 54Mbps, and it turns out he was addicted to router and nothing to do Wicker card or driver. I had read that Vista doesn't like WEP so I stop ALL security/encryption on the router and NIC (not a good idea in general, but just to test) and the connection turned up to 300Mbps (no, not the max of 270Mbps reported some have reported with this card). I tried to change security settings and he kept falling back to 54 Mbps and then I spotted this in the sidebar of my router (Netgear WNR3500) aid:

"To achieve maximum wireless performance, as WN511B must connect to this router with the help of WPA2(with AES). «For the clients that connect to WPA - PSK (with TKIP), maximum speed wireless will be 802.11 g.»

So I put the router for the listed specifications before and my Atheros card stuck to the solid 300Mbps. This last part watch is obviously a problem of router/nic as before when I was running mobile WEP another computer security (brand begins with G ;-)) was ongoing execution using a card Linksys under XP (a plug in one on the side) to 270Mbps but now under new security my Compaq runs on 300Mbps, my 'G' works to 270Mbps and my cable network is running at 1000Mbps, and everybody is happy!)

The next step is to reinstall the updates of Windows one or 2 at a time until those that trashes the connection lies - uninstall and it block. When I get to this point I'll post the update # (unless someone beats me to it). It's a very summarized race to the bottom, so if you have any questions please message but I wanted people to know it's possible!

  • And billing, why not be send reception?

I was terribly frustrated and concerned that Adobe do NOT send invoices for membership in Cloud. Books and our design department are completely separate departments in our company and do not have access to our Adobe accounts, or wish. I pay for a service, yet am not sent or made aware of $$ taken from my Visa card. I have contacted CFIB here at the Canada and questioned the legal aspect of the company not to send an invoice for a service offered. It is one of the best examples of the customer service terrible I've seen over the years. I contacted the customer service that several times over the past year, only to be told to deal with it, any dialogue or help. What a terrible system and I cannot believe I am the only person with any problems or concerns with this. No one at Adobe will specify why your billing system cannot send an e-mail or snail mail with my bill every time you take my payment? Told me my concern would be transmitted upward to management, but I never hear back.

    Hi Scott,.

Unfortunately for security reasons Adobe not to e-mail the bill you each month.

You will be able to obtain/print invoice / receipt on your adobe account.
