R40 starts the BIOS plus-pile

My thinkpad R40 does not start and I was told it might be the BIOS battery.  Where is the battery and how do I change it?

Thank you

You have older questions that just a BIOS battery which has turned...

Try to hang the unit to an external monitor and check if it shows anything.

Should that fail, remove the RAM and see if the unit beeps when turned on without it.

Good luck and we keep abreast.

Why is he not possibel to download an old Version of the Bios?

    JSpindler

    Hi jspindler,

The question is why you want to update the BIOS? This update should be carried out only if it of really necessary. In addition, only the most recent update of the BIOS can be downloaded as it fixes most problems.

In any case, you need to start the BIOS as an administrator and you should decompress all files from zip archive before start you. Also, make sure that the value added package is installed.

By the way: what operating system is installed?

Maybe the laptop tries to start the USB, but it is not possible to
It's just a suggestion, but I remember that something similar happened to a friend of mine.
The printer is connected to the USB and the laptop could not start in the OS.

Well, maybe we can solve this problem on the laptop you by changing the boot order in the BIOS.
Please enter the BIOS and change the order on the disk HARD - CD - etc.
Make sure that the HARD drive was chosen first

  • Problem starting the BIOS NB10t-A-101

I just bought a NB10t to the United Kingdom and try to boot to a bootable USB key

I noticed that the BIOS on this particular model is UEFI mode only, which, in itself, is not a problem because users can sign their own operating systems with a certification authority and use them, but this laptop refuses to boot from any external environment... or even to provide an error message.

I changed boot priority in the BIOS and USB moved up
I disabled the Secure Boot option in the BIOS
I tried all 3 USB ports as well as 3 different drives (NOTE: THESE WORK FINE ON the 3 OTHER SYSTEMS, a dell desktop/laptop computer and a computer acer laptop)
I also tried different distributions (Debian & Arch)
I used several installation methods (hard install of Unetbootin/Full/Rufus etc...)
I tried all your currently released BIOS versions (delivery with V1.0, V1.1 - Jan Feb - V1.2)

After trying all these when you press F12 at startup, the shows start menu but when you select a device, the system continues to initiate (Win8) HARD drive
After Googling around, I noticed that you have unlocked 2 BIOS updates I tried all versions of these and still the system refuses to boot in my selected device

Can we expect more updates of the firmware in the near future? Is there a way to work around this problem to start my chosen OS? Is there an option of CSM?

The laptop can be started from an external source such as USB flash memory stick but make sure of a few important points:
    A few tips:

1 - USB key must be in the right port (USB2).
2 - USB key must be UEFI-bootable (a Debian or Ubuntu, Installer copied on the USB stick with 'dd', is very well).
3 - Bootloader file must be named boot/bootx64.efi (again, a picture of the Debian or Ubuntu installer will be already OK).
4 - now try the ESC key before and during hit the power button, to select the boot device.

Using the Toshiba Service Station, he warned me an update. The update is called "Satellite L670/L675, Satellite Pro L670, update BIOS Version 1.50". When I install the update, it gives me this error: "there was an error, please check below the elements.» More than 150 BIOS version. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached.

I tried the update when my battery was 100% and the captain was connected, and yet I still get the error.

Can someone help me with this?

    Hello

Firstly I have to say if you don t have any problems with your computer forget this update. BIOS update is required only if you really have problems, otherwise I don't such updated risky.

Anyway, if you download the update of the BIOS, you will need to extract all files of archive zip first before start you. Also, make sure that you are logged on as administrator.

  • CodeMeter USB caused a significant delay in the process of starting the BIOS on Z200

I use a dongle CodeMeter (CodeMeter) and would prefer to be permanently connected, however whenever I leave it in when starting there is a delay of approximately 2.5 minutes (Don't exaggerate not) just after the BIOS blue HP screen (a cursor flashes in the left corner). I use a Z200 machine. I disabled the boot to removable devices and this still happens. Also, if I get out the dongle CM put in USB storage devices common there is no problem (so it's something to do with the BIOS to interact specifically with the dongle). I don't have this problem on any of my machines Z800 (other machine Yes, but I don't think the BIOS that are very different).

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Did. In any case, do not use a hub (ie. the monitor) solved the problem. Not sure what is the problem with USB hubs, but I'm going to call this sovled.

  • Satellite A40 will not start or start the BIOS

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite A40 2 days ago decided to turns off while I was on the internet, and now it does not restart. I tried removing the battery and leave overnight, but it still will not start. When give you it power outlet, the AC LED is green and if you press the button power turns on the green power light, but that's all, the HARD drive light does not illuminate, the fan does not come on, no sound from the HARD drive and nothing on the screen, not even the backlight. You can also feel the heatsink gets hot (without excess however)

If you insert a CD, you can here read the disc, and find things out there, too, now the power button still cut off the laptop.

If anyone has any advice on what may be the cause, or any way I can get the machine to reboot again, that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

Have you tried to connect the laptop to the external monitor to check if pictures or anything else appears on the second monitor?

Your description sounds like the malfunctioning of the internal display, but it is only a suggestion and a few trials are required to obtain a diagnosis right.

  • Satellite Pro 4220 - update the BIOS does not start

    Hello!

Please, someone tell me what is the problem with the update to v1.60 SP4220 BIOS? It does not start even do it according to instructions.

    I did the following:
1 download/have unzipped the package v1.60 since the BIOS page on a non-bootable floppy disk empty
    2. put the floppy in the computer
    3. turn on the device with the F12 key

With a floppy, I got the "non-system disk" error and another with a "EMBRL" error message missing. What is it, I'm not familiar with that one?

    Best regards

    Hello

Can I ask why you want to update the BIOS?
    You have problems?
If the laptop works well the update of the BIOS is not necessary! My laptop is about 6 years old and I have no day BIOS!

However, I think that you didn't use the right update procedure.
Please check this document before starting the BIOS update:

  • Edge 13 - start is not after the BIOS update

    Hello

I have a Thinkpad Edge 13 0196 - 32G and had problems with the battery capacity. Windows 7 has shown a red cross next to the battery icon, battery lasted very little).

A representative of the Romanian Lenovo Lenovo Support suggested that I have make a few updates in the following order:

    -last update of the BIOS

    -last Power Manager

    -last power manager driver

    -latest firmware of the battery

-perform a battery to reset using Power Manager

I downloaded the above and started the process with update of the BIOS, but during the final phase, if the update, the computer stops suddenly (I wasn't looking at the screen at that moment), and the computer is now * try * to begin with, but it seems not somehow.

    Here's what happens:

-the Red led lights up every now and then, during short periods of time (~ 1 second)

-When it turns off, I hear a sound mechanical sorting of the left side of the laptop, I believe it's from the hard drive

    -the process repeats indefinitely

-I can shut down the computer by pressing the button for a few seconds.

I'm desperate! How could this have happened?

Please give me some clue as to how I can start the computer and solve this problem - I have some very important documents on the hard drive.

    Thank you

Change later [1]: I tried to install the BIOS version is 1.19-1.13(6YET36WW)/1.24-1.13(6ZET37WW)

(that's what he said when I start the BIOS Setup

Change later [2]: I read in the file read me the utility to update the BIOS if the computer crashes, you should unplug the power and remove the battery, then put back them and try to start the computer - it worked, and now I'm in the last stages of the above mentioned battery update procedure.

For those expierencing a battery problem with their ThinkPad Edge 13 with machine type models 0196, 0197, 0492, it would be prudent to first check this firmware for you the battery.

A few other steps you can take with your machine in addition to those you listed is a discharge of static electricity. Here's how to make the discharge of static electricity:

    • Unplug the power supply
    • Remove the battery
    • Unplug cords or express cards
    • Press the button power 10 times and the 10th press hold for 30 seconds

In addition, you also meet noise hard drive? If so, can you describe the noise you hear?

  • Satellite Pro A300-257 while flashing the BIOS

    Hello

I have a dilemma. I recently installed windows 7 on my laptop of girlfriends who is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-257, everything went well until I tried to update the Bios. I followed all instructions on the toshiba site had to put the model number in to get good bios double checked and triple checked before running the program, but when I ran the system crashed to halfway through the closed system update and now it wont even boot lights are on cd player is ROAR a few stays on black screen.

I read many forums and it seems im not the only one with this problem.
I just got the phone to toshiba and they say im not covered because I does not you can call and go through it with them on the phone, even if at no time did he tell me to do that I followed the instructions of there Web site.
I also confirmed with them that I used the correct bios but they say that they are unable to prove that and I can put in the wrong information that I did not.

In my view, there is a program that will allow me to boot from the cd so I don't have to go out and buy a reader external floppy to Flash the bios, I think that his winflash. Unfortunately, all I can find is the executable program on there website which im guessing will not start work.
Anyone know where I can find the prog to update the bios and the bios file so I can create a cd bootable to Flash the bios.

Any help will be appreciated with gratitude

    Thank you very much

    Hi mate

I m afraid there is no alternative to reflash the BIOS to the traditional version of BIOS who can start the BIOS updated using an external USB drive and the floppy disk.

The European driver Toshiba page contains only the BIOS Win-based that can be updated when the windows operating system. The traditional BIOS is not available for download. Only authorized service partners have access to this version of BIOS and that's why I don t see any alternative as to get in touch with the guys and to ask for help.

  • Satellite L675-11R - crashes when loading the BIOS

    Hello

My daughter L675 crashes when loading the BIOS.

Yesterday the system firstly could not start with a "Boot failed" error, as the HARD drive is not found.

I restarted and is gone in BIOS - the HARD disk was recorded and shown as a first Source of seed. After reboot, the system has failed again with the same error.

After several attempts, even if it does not. now that appears in a black screen, blinking cursor top left. Hot start works, but another key not seem to provoke a reaction. I can't start the BIOS Setup.

I removed the HARD drive and connected it to my PC. It was recoginized and I am able to write to it. A W7 disk verification completed successfully and some problems have been "fixed". But when I reinstall the drive of the laptop, it still does not start.

I double checked that the drive & Modules of memory are well inserted.

    Any ideas I can try?

    Thank you

    John

Well, the cursor blinking in the upper left corner is a typical sign of a malfunction of the HARD drive.
I think you need to format the HARD drive using other computers. Delete all partitions and insert the HARD drive into the L675 again.
Then try to install the Windows system on this device.

In addition, you can try to check this HARD disk using a 3rd party software.
Drive Fitness Test is a free tool that can help you test the ability of the HARD drive.
If some errors would be detected, then a replacement HARD drive would be desirable.
