Range of highlight and shadow

Y at - it an option to expand or reduce the range of shadows or highlights to better limit specific color settings

You can use tha S/M and H/M slider to limit the range of the lights and shadows when you navigate to the area of Shad / HI.  The Grayout desired viewmode (recommend black and white for it) to adjust.

You can also add secondary to adjust if necessary.

Hope that helps,

Are highlight and shadow clipping must be avoided in any image?

Because in some cases, let's say, night scene, usually a lot of black pixels in the sky. Make nice contrast against the colored signs.

Please check the picture as an attachment to reference (01.tif).

I know that nothing in the sky, so I like to keep all the pixels to be cut. Is this good?

Some of my students said that other instructors/teachers had told them to keep all the pixels in the histogram.

But I tell them it depands on how would you like your images to show. Am I wrong?

As the picture as an attachment, it is impossible to draw the black pixels to the histogram and I think that it is acceptable in this case.

We will see the 2nd box (02.tif), this image cutting to highlight in the clouds.

I like the way this picture seems, what looks like a watercolor painting.

If I pull back white pixels, the image will change a lot and I get a very dark set.

My question is, is it so important to keep your images without having put in evidence or shadow clipping?

It is not applicable to any image, right?

    Thank you

No rule hard and fast here. Do you need to make the image appear. It is sometimes nice to have areas of black in the image. That's where the black slider comes into play. It's the same with highlights - only you can determine what is important details and what is allowed to let go to white. Optimize for what makes the image look good, not to say the rules.

  • Highlight and shadow preview cutting works don't not in LR5

There is a gap between the edge of my information tonal and the end of the histogram of the two sides of the chart area. No matter how light or dark, I do the image it shows no clipping and values do not slip on the distant area banks, as they did. In addition, hold down option when dragging the 'white' and 'blacks' cursors is no longer shows me to cut out the values no matter how light or dark I do not. Ugh... I use these features all the time and feel blind without them.

If you go to the tone curve, and pull the right end, the photo don't cut.  Could this be what you were doing?  This is a well exposed photo with right exposure + 5 and the right end of the tone curve has gone down a bit to show the effect of a choped off the coast of the histogram.

  • detail of light and shadow can be edited in Photos?

I noticed that some editing on the iPhone 6 s tools are not available in OS X El Capitan 'Photos,' setting particularly light and shadow detail.  Is there a way to do this?

Editing tools are all there, but you have to reveal the advanced tools.  They are hidden by default.

To use the tool of facts highlights & shadows, open the adjustment Panel, then click on the text in blue 'Add' in the upper right corner.  Now add all the advanced settings, you want to use.

Click the Basel to the right of the 'Light' adjustment to reveal the advanced controls for "Light".

The downarrows are hidden, unless you hover on the far right of the amounts of the adjustments.

The scroll bar is also hidden. You can scroll the Panel to view more signals, if they will not fit in the Panel.

  • When a photo has for example a bright sky beside the dark object, using lights and shadows can cause a 'halo' or double edge to appear. How can I avoid this?

When a photo for example has a bright sky next to the dark object, using lights and shadows to reduce high contrast can cause a 'halo' or double-edge to appear. How can I avoid this?

From my experience, this isn't a problem that has a simple solution, such as moving a slider or a combination of the sliders in LR. It requires rather a major change in the technique, at the unit or in office. Some pros (I am not one) tire ALWAYS support HDR or this reason - better transition from highlights to shadows, then tweak the image with much less "heavy" necessary. Another popular technique is the luminosity masking and blending in PS. There is a ton of information on this topic (just do a search on Youtube), but it's not easy to learn or do, but it can eliminate this problem.

  • Development of lighting and shadows settings are not functions

While implementing a plugin to image processing, I learned something very interesting (for me) on the tones dark and light parameters of development.  The other basic tone settings (exposure, contrast, saturation, etc.) always map any one color to another simple color evenly across the image.  But the dark and light tones can map a given in multiple colors in a single image, depending on the location of the pixel color.

For example, in a test image I made with Shadows = + 100, pixel (824 286) had its origin value of 16-bit color (0, 0, 0) transformed into (1724,1387,852).  Pixel (861 287) was also the original color (0,0,0), but it turns into a color very different (3093,2688,1316).

Abstractly, the other the basic tone settings are functions (any input color is always the same output color), all in shadows and points strong are-to-many mappings (any color input can have several colors of output). I knew that clarity not was not a function - transformed from a pixel value would depend on neighboring pixels.  But it does appear to me that dark and light tones are not functions either.

This property of shadows and highlights well known by experienced users of LR?  (I.e. Rob, I guess you knew that?)

Yup - @Lr4 (PV2012) there are 3 settings using the new algorithm 'magical' from Adobe:

    * Clarity

    * Puts out

    * Shadows

I don't know really enough to fill in many details, except to say that when you use - highlights or + shadows, he 'clarifies' highlights and/or shadows a bit, using the algorithm of the transformed of Laplace-based Adobe developed. Jeff Schewe made us a white paper on this subject in the past, but I do not know the link... For me, it is similar to the "Topaz" detail and Topaz Adjust 'adaptive' improvements - two Photoshop plugins I used regularly until the Lr4 is out (Adobe algorithm is very well done - in my opinion, better than Topaz labs, or others are doing similar things, for example, PhaseOne, DxO, Nikon,..).

FWIW - it's one of the reasons why some people raise hell when Lr4 is out - no way to brighten the shadows using sliders base without getting the effect of clarification... That said, Eric Chan also informed us that extra Lr3 light had a similar mathematical algorithm it backup and therefore Lr4 wasn't new in this regard, only improved...

  • Satellite L350D-216: green lines, dots and shadows.

    Hi all.

About three days ago, I bought a laptop (Toshiba L350D, published on July 09 I think) second hand on a good deal.

I turn it on today, to discover a series of weird green lines, points and shadows, over which areas of text hard to read.

    [http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture4.png | http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture4.png]
You can see to the right of the words and if you look close enough, also around the different letters in the Google logo.

    [http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture2.png | http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture2.png]
Do not clear especially here (sorry), but the words greyed out in the address bar are very ghosts.

Also, he seems to have replaced areas full of colors like grey, with a color green "dotty".
    [http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture1.png | http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/philkensebben/Capture1.png]

It seems that this issue has also spread on video, where green areas are now appearing at random points.

I have updated with the latest display drivers available here, who unfortunately made no difference.

Any advice on why it suddenly decided to go and how to get rid of would be appreciated, I use the laptop for Photoshop and as you can imagine, having a surface of green and shadows is rather off-putting when I'm working.

    Hello

To be honest, all the screenshots displayed in your message is displayed correctly on my laptop.

It seems that your graphics card or screen developed a problem.

You can check if the same thing is seen on the external monitor.

If yes then the internal display may be affected and should be replaced.

To do this, you should get in touch with a local Toshiba technician.

  • Deleting several comments - "remove highlights and comments" grayed

Using numbers 3.6.1 on a MacBook Pro (13 "retina, end of 2013).

I want to delete all comments on hundreds of cells at a time (between cells with comments are a few without) without affecting the contents of cells - to do this, the command "remove highlights and comments" seems ideal... but he is always greyed out, apparently no matter what I do. The only way I found to delete a comment is to use the button Delete for this purpose within the window of comment... which is closed, leaving no cells selected, so I repeatedly to select the next cell with the mouse, renavigate to the key, press on and... wait.

I looked in the 'Help', searched the web, this database too and found nothing useful. Now, maybe I forget something, maybe because I've been using numbers and its predecessors, as well as Excel under Windows (and Lotus 1-2-3 before DOS), for decades something obvious is looking at me in the face... be it, hope for your help!

  • my desktop mouse puts highlight and click on everything

My mouse seems to have a mind of your own. He puts highlight and click on everything except what I want. I uninstalled then reinstalled the mouse and I have run the Microsoft Windows malicious software removal tool and neither worked. I've had this mouse for a few months and have never had any problems with her or one of those before it.

Looks like a bad mouse, to be honest.

I an I can connect now and get these results.  Actually - I can leave it hooked up next (as) another mouse and as long as I only use the mouse - I don't get any problems/issues.  As soon as I use it - problems start.  Stop using it, stop problems.

Swap mouse.  If that fixes it - there you go.

It really does sound like malware at all; However, if you really want to watch:

Download, install, and run a full scan of the system with these two elements (free version):

    Delete everything they find.
