  I hope someone here can help me, I'm at my wit's end and can not find answers online either.
  I use LR5 (Win7) and have my photos and catalog on an external HD (E :). We are talking about 45 000 photos, taking about 1.2 TB. Please bear with me it's complicated and scary.

  When I turned on LR the other day, I had forgotten to plug in my HD external (e) first. When I did it after the fact, LR practically crashed. Even after a reboot, the structure of the catalog was there, but pictures were gone and LR was looking for a F: drive, even if the connected HD is E:. So I added the E: drive to the section of the new file and imported pictures. Since then, ever-present F:, grayed, in the section files and cannot be deleted. Everything went well at first glance, the pictures were there, but after awhile, I realized that all my changes, the sides and keywords disappeared! Only a few pictures, which had been published in a different and backup software in LR as .tiff or .jpg had retained information. After unsuccessfully trying different things, I decided that my catalog must be corrupted. I find the previous backup on my C; by car (unfortunately, this backup is missing about 15 hours of work, I know - I know...) and started LR with this catalog backup and everything worked well. So I copied that backup to HD (E :) and renames to my usual catalog name (I renamed and kept the original, "corrupt" too).) Low and behold, this copy of the catalogue backup suddenly didn't work more. He has done exactly as "corrupt." So I went back to the original location of the Catalog backup on the C: drive and attempted to restart LR in there once again, and it does NOT more more. And creepy it is, it shows the structure of the correct catalog, seems to have all the changes, ratings and keywords, but is looking for images on the F: drive that does not exist! Well, it does not actually exist, but it's my backup drive that is not connected. The E: drive does not appear in the records section at all, as when it happened first. An older backup that I will go back to doing the same thing now. BTW: at some point during the race together, I upgraded to 5.7 LR., in the hope that it could solve the problem in which case LR itself had been damaged. Made no difference.

  Help!

  As you have discovered, re-importation of pictures will often lose metadata (changes, keywords, captions, collections, etc.), and so re-entry is the last resort when you cannot recover a working catalog.

  In your case, I think the problem is that some windows point renamed drive letters.  Rather than worry about how it happened, we will focus on obtaining a working catalog.  You said that your backup of the catalog references the F: drive, rather than the E: drive.  It is easy to fix, according to the methods described in the link DJ_Paige posted above.

  1. once more, make a copy of the backup catalog and open LR on this copy.

  2. in the LR Folders pane, find the F: drive. The folders listed under the F: drive should have a "?" on them, indicating that they are "missing" (in other words, they run sites that think LR does not exist in reality).

  3 right click on one of the top-level folders, and select view the Parent folder:

  

  Repeat until the folder in the foreground is F:.

  4. right click on the folder in the foreground F: (which will have a "?" on it) and select find missing folder:

  

  A file browser will open - select E: and click Select folder.

  5. at this point, the folders pane should show the E: drive, no "?" on folders, and you should be able to navigate to all of its files and display photos in folders. The folders pane may still present the F: drive, with '? ' on his records - if so, restart LR and it will disappear.

Then, I went directly to the itunes store and bought new music. When I opened my library to assess these new songs, I have seen that my rankings and all my playlists have disappeared. What can I do?

• Windows 7 Autoplay import filename Options settings includes not "date taken" and tag

  One of the options for formats of filename with pre-Win7 was 'date taken + tag. It seems that this option is no longer available. Date-taking can be specified for the names of folders, but not names. Also, I thought there are two import - Windows and Windows Live Photo Gallery programs. With Win7 I see only using the import window.

  I photograph all summer a group of sailing and import the photos every day with the same tag (butterflies, Crappie-Sun). At the end of the season, I create a collection of all these photos and if file names are duplicated, they certainly if file names are 'tag' only, I have problems...

• List of files that are customized with captions and tags

  Greetings.  I'm scanning old negs, enter LR CC scan data and adding tags and captions.  I'm also assembling prints in albums.  I would like to create a list of all file numbers in each album of paper with their associated tags and/or legends of LR and then add the list printed at the beginning of the album.  For example, if I make an album of images selected from 2003 and that my system of grading system is year-roll #-image #, I would like to print a list with entries such as

  2003 15-25 [file number] Lake Tahoe, water-skiing, Diane, holiday [tags] jump more [legend]

  2003 15-26 [file number] spectacular Lake Tahoe, water-skiing, Dad, holiday [tags] fall [legend]

  This would allow me to add the printout containing all the identification data for each impression at the beginning of each photo album without writing all the data on the back of each of them.  Just what I need to do is print the label with the file number and refer to the list; I and others, would not need to open LR to retrieve the identification data.

  Is this possible without copy and paste all the data manually?  Thank you.

  There is not "best" overall. Two programs are good things and 'not so good' things, and you should try to see which suits you best.

  Marking distance (and edition remotely) has been discussed several times in this forum, but since these applications have been designed as a single-user application, all the methods proposed are somewhat of a workaround and may be bit tedious and detailed.

  Outsourcing in the Philippines... Well, I have no experience on it.

• Catalogue again pass PC but moved with the tree files metadata and tag

  I'll start at the beginning. Years ago I had PS elements 4 original and upgraded to PSE11 on the same computer and no problem. . at some point, we moved the files from a PC to a new PC. We knew on the displacement of PES in the catalogue and transfer of files. I guess I have relabelled and organized all the photos and was happy for years.

  Last month my husband used the utility PC mover 'link turn' PES 11 to a new PC by moving all the files. I then found the problem, because all my photos had no information and no tag and no tree tag on the screen.  As a precaution, I saved the metadata to all media and created a tree of xml on the old PC before tags it back up again. We were going to do the process of back-up/restore to the new PC, but when my husband was struggling to install Adobe PES 11 on the new PC he transferred somehow all my photos (12,000) and there they were with labels and information and all organized under their respective keywords.

  The problem is PSE11 created a new file (Bethpictures) with all the photos inside.

  Now it seems that we SO 3 separate files with these same pictures 12 000 each. I see all these folders on the left side of the page of the Organizer.

  (1) the original file from Windows

  (2) the old file from PC-bethalbums

  (3) new file of PC-bethpictures

  and XML file - tree of the tag

  so is it possible to remove redundancies and the tag tree file without any screwing or should I delete it all and make the catalog upward and restoration of the process. Can we put the Bethpicture file under bethalbums and remove duplicates? Or get rid of bethalbums (from old PC) and only has Beth photos (new files created by PSE)? Can I delete this file tree of xml tag or ultimately the removal of the tree of the tag on my page of Organizer PSE?

  Should I back up catalog now on the new PC? And then when I get a new PC in the future I can use the backup/restore process or one should always save metadata to file?

  You have layoffs after several restorations.

  Before you delete it, you should check which of these 'restorations' are the best.

  Each restoration produced a copy of your image tree and a catalog folder.

  When you open the organizer with one of the catalogues referring to these various restorations, you can consult:

  -where the pictures are stored (in the information on the right panel)

  -where the catalog folder is stored: Help menu > system information.

  If you are satisfied with a given restore session, at the locations above should not be deleted, the others can be deleted completely from the Explorer or Finder.

  Your catalog is probably not in the default location on C:, it may be in a different location. You can use Catalog Manager to move the catalog to the location by default if it is not already there.

  Should I back up catalog now on the new PC? And then when I get a new PC in the future I can use the backup/restore process or one should always save metadata to file?

  OR should I leave him alone?

  It would be a good thing. Registration of metadata to the files is a good and redundant way to be sure, but a healthy backup is sufficient.

  No, everything is restored, firstly the photo files, then the catalog. If so, you will need to convert a catalog from an older version;

  I'm starting a new project and start with v sphere 6!      The idea of the project is spreading surface and back-end storage on the virtual computer relationship.   I think using tags, but don't see any tag actions/workflows in the vRO 6.    It seems that people use PowerShell to manipulate tags.      Could you guys tell me how best to manipulate the vRO vSphere tags?

  Thanks Ilian. I assumed that this would be part of the vCenter plugin, but it may not be the case. Seems strange to me to put a tag on a VM vCenter vCenter, you need two different plug-ins, but certainly the tag underlying API doesn't do not part of the SDK vCenter.

  Hi people

  Our company often gets a lot of text into our pages.

  It would be a great time of Eve in order to select the content and then apply tags opening and closing around this text via a single keyboard shortcut.

  e, g,

  1. Select the text

  2. run the keyboard shortcut to activate an input field of the tag (with the same menu indicators used in regular tag entry).

  3. the user enters the opening tag.

  4 edge Code between tags opening / closing before and after the selected text.

  A useful addition would be the ability to add tags custom to the list that the user often uses.

• Sections, filters and Tags - what is it? Who's with them?

  Hi all -

  Let's delve deeper into help the sidecar to accompany our DPS publications and I'm trying to wrap my head around what are these different parts and how to use them.

  I think I have a good handle on the Sections, they are best used for newspapers with DPS. Filters are probably better if your publication is published in several languages, based on my research.

  But I'm really fuzzy on what are tags and how to use them better. A reader can search by tags, or tap on one and see all items with the same tag used? I guess hope for us, that's our client we could give a few tags that we associate with each item - whether the subject of the article, or if the article has "bonus content" not available in the printed version, etc. - and users can type to see all of the items associated with a specific tag. I'd love to hear/see examples of a publication using tags, so we can show our customers how we use them.

  If you specify the text of the tags, this text appears as signature or Description when article is displayed in navigation mode, but it has no other effect like search or filtering.

  I don't have ID can interpret the labels for a data merge - he expects plain text or a path to the image.

  You can use find/replace after the merger, however, to lovate tags, add style, then remove the labels. This could be very simple or extremely difficult, according to the number of styles and wheter local formatting or character style are used outside the paragraph styles.

  Don't believe so, frankly, it's the wrong type of program for what you are looking for.  I guess that the other Photoshop android app would be more likely to offer this feature (although in my opinion, that is not either).
