  To put it bluntly, YOU n 'T NEED a KEY! When you reinstall Windows 8, it is automatically activated from your key incorporated in the Bios.   If you have bought OEM Windows 7 and activated, then the license is locked to the old PC (although you might try to discuss your case with MS)

  On Vista, Windows DVD Maker requires that you have Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.  If you have one of these versions, you should already have Windows DVD Maker and Windows Movie Maker 6.0.  These versions of Windows Vista are required to have copies under license from MPEG-2 to make a video DVD.

  I was not aware of a separate installer for Windows DVD Maker, so I suspect you look at something of a 3rd site part. If it is a Microsoft site, can provide you the address you use?

  If you have installed (no upgrade to) N360 2010 v3.0, IE8 would be much more effective for you, but I suspect that this will not to solve the problem you experienced when you try to install KB971737, don't.

  Here's what you could try though:

  1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

  2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

  3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

  4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

  NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (for example, navigation; read E-mail; cat download other stuff) until you have completed step #8 below!

  5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

  6. While N360 is no longer present on the computer, see if you can install KB971737 (and offered security critical updates) now.

  TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

  Most machines have a recovery partition which will reinstall your machine to the condition as purchased without using a CD.  When you start your machine and the first messages are displayed on your screen, look for a message that tells you to press a certain key to a recovery operation.  It only lasts a second or two, so you have to look quickly. When you see displayed, quickly press this button and start the process of re - install.  Make sure that you backup your personal data first as the desire to re - install everything remove.
