Re: Satellite A500 - 1 g 2 GPU overheating

Hello

My problem is the speed of the fan which is really high despite the fact use CPU and GPU is quite low. So, at the time while running just from Toshiba Web pages on Google Chrome, MSN, Norton, some utilities Toshiba (only those who are already installed after windows recovery) and application of Speedfan, finally a 82 degrees on GPU watch which is marked as a kind of sign of fire, 1 core is also 51 degrees with a fire sign , 2nd core with a fire sign 55, 3rd is 44 and its ok, 4th 43 and the sound also ok.

Now PC Health Monitor from Toshiba shows that the fan speed is 90%, energy consumption is like 35%, and it shows the CPU temperature is 65%. Guess I should add that a laptop computer on a desk, not set bed or things like that.
The thing is its really boring work on this, given that the sound of the ugly fan all the time.

Any solution?
Thanks in advance
Mac

Hello

You should try to clean the cooling system:

If you do not have a compressed air, you can use your vacuum cleaner. (not the best solution, but better than nothing :))

  • Satellite A210 - GPU overheating

I've had my laptop since the end of August now and recently, I had a few problems.

I played a few games (specifically TeamFortress2) and after awhile my computer screen freezes, then slowly turns white. The only thing that he would answer to would be to turn off the laptop to the power switch. When it turns on its fine.

This problem appears to have occurred since the last update of vista. My laptop is also been very hot as well. From what I understand, it's the GPU overheating. I installed the latest update of the BIOS to see if it would help, but nothing helped. I have 2 questions.

    (1) is the GPU overheating the obvious problem?
    (2) is their anyway to increase the activity of the fan up to keep my cell phone also costs as possible?

    (1) hmm overheating could cause these issues but as you know it is really not easy to say what could be bad exactly.
Can I ask you what graphics card driver do you use?
The graphics driver Toshiba supports thermal protection that allows to control the GPU and to prevent it from overheating.
Drivers graphic non-Toshiba don t support this protection and it possible s you GPU could overheat if you do not use the graphic driver Toshiba!

    (2) the fans are controlled by the BIOS. In the BIOS table fan is stored and this fan table includes information and details on the levels of temperature, and when the fan is to move on. So it of not possible to increase or decrease the cooling module performance.
But on some Toshiba laptops, you might find the Toshiba power saver.
This energy saver includes parameters that modify CPU and cooling performance module.

However, as I said above, it is important that you use the Toshiba GPU driver.
In addition, you should you module cooling if dust and debris jam t n check the vents

  • Satellite P100-324 - GPU overheating due to fan does not work in the operating system

    Hello world.

While trying to solve the problem of RAM of 4 GB ([this thread | http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=28374&tstart=0]), I meet another weird thing - gpu overheating due to fan does not work in the operating system.

Now, I restored the XP MCE using the Toshiba Recovery and I was VERY surprised to see that the problem still exists! As soon as loading the system GPU fan stops, and there is only tranquility. The application load is heavy on GPU and reaching 104 results by reducing its GPU and MEMORY clock values and NOT in the activation of the fan.

The same thing happens in 64-bit gentoo. ACPI can be turned on or off, it is not serious, the GPU fan always dies as soon as the system load. In non-OS environments (bios, program of recovery, etc.) the fan works fine, GPU cooling from time to time.

This problem occurs in versions of BIOS: 2.40, 4.00, 4.20.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, since this laptop is my main working tool and I can't let go 14 days (service).

I saw in your other thread that you have updated the BIOS and you have installed several different OS.

Fact is that the BIOS v 4.2 package contains BIOS 32-bit and 64-bit OS.
Your laptop has been preloaded with Win XP MCE 32 bit. Please use the 32-bit BIOS if the original XP MCE running on the laptop.

  • Satellite A500-1DN - crashing everything by playing games

    Hi all

About 2 months ago, my friend bought a Toshiba satellite A500-1DN. After about 2 weeks, she decided to put 2 games on it (guildwars and jedi knight academy). We quickly realized that after about 1 hour of playing, the computer would crash to a black screen, rather than return to a blue screen of death. That meant there was no indication of what was causing the problem specifically and no dumps mini windows...
Having trouble with these specific games myself on Windows 7, I thought about the games.

A week later, she spent an hour watching videos to youtube to see his computer crashed in the same way as the game. So I put some on the computer diagnostic software. CPU / GPU overheating? But nothing, the temperatures are stable and supported and certainly wouldn t have been the cause of these accidents, unless I unfortunately missed the point where he did more heat cache-shoulders so I not outrule not he...
Because of the problem it seems to be up to now video related, I downloaded the new nvidia drivers (unfortunately the official ones didn't work and I had to search a custom .inf file). It does not solve the problem, but the driver seemed to work adequately well.

In our anger, we have sent it back stating that it would be cooling the laptop, that is to say of copper was not sufficient for the graphics card and Toshiba said they had cleaned up the computer until replaced thermal paste, typical stuff all... which seems very fair. We returned it. We played a game and it crashed within 10 minutes. Perhaps even worse than when he left.

Is there anything that could cause this problem - video related activities causing crash computer without going to the BSOD or return specific errors. What is RAM? I even uninstalled protection HDD thinking it could be the source of compatibility problems.

    I need advice.

    The spec is:
Intel core 2 DUO T6600 CPU 2.20 GHz processor
    NVIDIA Geforce GT 230M
    4 GB OF RAM

    Hello

This only happens if you play games or Surf Internet, office, etc.. ?

The games aren't supposed to, but if they are a bit older, they are not compatible with Windows 7 maybe. Did you check that?
Also look for a patch for the games. You can get it on the site of the factory.

In addition, it would be interesting to know what you get exactly the code bluescreen. For the most part the stop codes you can find more information on Microsoft Knowledge Base.

In most cases these bluescreens correspond to the drivers or hardware. If all Toshiba drivers are installed, check the RAM with Memtest86 diagnostic tool.

    Good luck! :)

    Hello

Try to clean the cooling fans with a jet of compressed air.
Dust and debris inside fans might prevent air circulation, which leads to a higher temperature.

You must also use the graphics card drivers Toshiba instead of all the other drivers of all pages on 3rd. The drivers of Toshiba page contains a GPU overheating which other drivers don't.

_Why an Exchange must / can not be done: _

No significant performance will be won (-> price vs performance comparison)

It is unclear if the new processor is compatible to the system board. Integrated chipsets can take charge of their technical specifications a wide range of processors, but this does not mean that all types of CPU can be used in a mobile system, since integrated cooling systems are designed individually for each set of model in order to ensure the optimal operation of the machine. An incorrect CPU can cause the system to overheat and damage the internal system components.

In most cases, the BIOS does not work with the replaced CPU which causes a malfunction of the machine. The BIOS needs to be rewritten after each Exchange of a CPU that can only be done by an authorized Toshiba service partner.

The immediate revocation of the warranty will apply if the part of the core component have been modified by the customer. This also applies when the machine was not disassembled by a certified Toshiba technician.

  • Satellite A500-17 x restart automatically if I play Warhammer

    Hello
I just bought a Satellite A500-17 x a few days ago. There is a very big prblem with laptop is.

When I play the game Warhammer Online, the laptop will automatically resart every time. Little time is 10 minutes, sometimes is 20minuts. First time I thought is a
problem of temperature but the laptop isn't too hot anyway. I have try to disable the restart to see there is no information, unluckly the laoptop always restart automatically when I play the game.

Can help me Fig that out?

    Hello

This only happens if you play Warhammer Online or in other games too? Have you noticed this problem only on Windows?

At the moment it is not easy to say why this happens, but you need to update the display driver. Check the Toshiba site for an update:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com > support & downloads > download drivers

It is important that you use a display of a 3rd party site driver because only Toshiba drivers have overheating protection.

In addition, it would be interesting to know what operating system you are running. Is it preinstalled OS from Toshiba or another?

Or when I look at the pit TV Tuner Express Card (it's sometimes so hot) but I can't watch TV with auto restart after 10-15 minutes...

Please help me with this problem...

    Hello

Looks like your laptop is overheating ;)

You must clean your laptop using a jet of compressed air. This could blow out the dust from the cooling fans. Blow air gently and shortly into the holes of the case.
It of necessary to clean the cooling system from time to time. I do it every 3 months.

By the way: what display driver you are using? If you use a Toshiba not display driver remove and install the latest version of the Toshiba page.

  • Satellite A500 - upgrade the processor and RAM void my warranty?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500, and I think to upgrade my processor CPU and RAM. If I open it invalidate or do I need a Toshiba authority to open it? Removes the card RAM will void the warranty?

All I need to know is that can I put RAM and CPU processor without voiding the warranty

    Hey,.

If you upgrade the CPU, you will cancel the warranty because this upgrade is not supported from Toshiba.
In addition, I put t understand why you buy a laptop, and then you think of some hardware upgrades. In your case, I'd rather bought a laptop with faster processor and more RAM.

See also this article from Toshiba:
[Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba laptop computer? | http://APS2.Toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm]

Finally and above all a RAM upgrade is not a problem. So check your user manual how to do this.

  • Satellite A500 - 149 - graphics card problem

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite A500-149 and last week my screen has scratches ace.

The grapichs card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650.

I send the computer to Toshiba yesterday but I need feedback because a repair. If the same graph as problem could cost to repair?

    Anyone know?

I think that no one here can help you. Either is defective graphics card or screen may only.
In any case, if the GPU is defective, it will be quite expensive.

I think you should contact Toshiba service and ask what is the result of the diagnosis and how much you have to pay for the repair.

  • Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) - noisy fan stops is never (BIOS version 1.60)

Hello from the Czech Republic, I have also problem with noisy fan on my new Satellite A500-1E4 (PSAR9E) (i430M, GT330M) on 64-bit Windows 7 over Office Standard - see http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=46719&start=165&tstart=0.

Today I have updated the bios to 1.60 (from 1.20) and there has been no change. When the laptop powered to the top of the adapter in all modes the fan is running at 60-70% (sometimes at 90% - my office is perhaps quieter :-(). What laptop power battery in normal fashion fan and high performance race to 60-70% (loud sound) and in the economy mode to 80% (very noisy). It's crazy that in economic mode produce more noise than mode high performance. The CPU temperature is cca. 37-43 C, GPU 48-57. Fans of course never stops and all it's standart office. No intensive work or games. I can't imagine in games.

Can someone help me please, I'm really helpless. Or this fixes only bios 1.30 and next version not?

    Hey Buddy,

I think that it of really difficult to say why this happens, but in my opinion you should provide more details about your operating system and drivers.
Are you running the Toshiba factory settings or you have installed another OS?
Fan sometimes high activity is due to a different display driver. Have you installed the latest display driver form Toshiba (NOT nvidia)?

Old BIOS versions, you can get an authorized service provider

    What are the main differences between L505-144, L555 - 11K and A500-1GL?

They are the same price and seem to be very similar, with only small differences in processing power, graphics and sound.

    What is the best model?

    Hello

I think you should take a look on the page of specification for Toshiba laptop and need to compare two specifications:

    * Satellite L505-144 *.
    http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/product/satellite-L505-144/1081190/

    * Satellite A500-1GL. *
    http://de.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/product/satellite-A500-1GL/1080934/toshibaShop/false/

Satellite L505-144 was released in the United Kingdom and the Satellite A500-1GL was published in Germany.

L505-144 supports more rapid and better CPU, it was delivered with Win 7 32 bit and 64 bit. It supports rather than ATI GPU nVidia but the HARD drive is smaller than 320 GB instead of 500 GB
