Reader 11.0.13 - opening PDF files based on browser resets automatically

We lack Adobe Reader 11.0.13 in our environment. As we have upgraded to Internet Explorer 11, the function to open the PDF files in web browsers continues to reset itself, and PDFs begin opening in the Reader itself instead of Internet Explorer application. We did the following:

-Disable in the browser is checked in the accessibility settings

-Ensure the registry values exist in HKLM and HKCU to bBrowserIntegration = 1

Disable/re-enable, the module in Internet Explorer 11

-Reset Internet Explore 11

-Desinstalle/reinstalle Adobe Reader 11.

-We do not have the DC version in our environment yet and have not planned any time soon.

Any other suggestions? Is this a known bug? Am I missing something?

Thank you

Joseph

  • Cannot open PDF files in the browser. I tried every fix mentioned and it still does not work!

I have Windows XP. Using firefox as my browser. All of a sudden, I can't open the PDF files in the browser. I tried all the mentioned patches. Nothing works! Check the configuration of the plugin, checked the settings Adobe Reader.

Is the problem that Firefox opens a blank tab, or that it requires you to download the file?

I guess you tried switching spectators between the internal viewer and the Adobe plugin. If this article does not, steps: How to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another Viewer. Sometimes behind switching will allow to correct an error in the settings file.

You can rename or delete the settings file that stores these associations and have Firefox regenerate. If the file is corrupt, this could be the only option that works. Here's how:

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using

Help > troubleshooting information > "view file" button.

Leave this window open, activate any Firefox window and quit the program (for example, the file menu > exit or Firefox menu > Exit)

Pause while Firefox finishing his cleaning, then rename the mimeTypes.rdf to something like mimeTypes.old

Restart Firefox. Your likely PDF preferences will be reset to the internal PDF Viewer, but you can activate the Adobe plugin as described in the above-linked article.

  • Unable to open a .pdf file in a browser.

For years, I ran Acrobat 6 standard.  My wife and I share the same office - it uses IE for its browser. I use Firefox.  Earlier this year we both started getting the following error message when you try to open a PDF from our resepctive browsers, that is, by clicking on a link to the .pdf file:

"Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can be used to display PDF files in a web browser. If please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your browser and try again. »

To the best of my knowledge, Acrobat or reader was working at the time (unless it somehow goes in a context that I couldn't find).  I thought maybe it was a little problem with Acrobat 6, so I've upgraded to Acrobat 9 standard a week ago and the reader 9.1 3 weeks.

The problem persists, although not always, and the only way to work around what I've found is to click right on the link on the Web page and save it to the desktop, then double-click on the icon and it opens.  It's a bit of a pain.

Has anyone encountered this before?  You have a solution?

Adobe STRONGLY recommends that you have NOT Acrobat and Reader on the SAME system. Based on my experience, the presence of these two products causes all sorts of unpredictable behavior.

If you need Acrobat to create and edit PDF files, you need not Reader to open PDF files in any browser. You must delete a program or another and do a repair on the product remaining thereafter. I recommend also that after the removal of one product, you restart your system and then to repair the other product. If Acrobat or Reader is installed on your system, browsers should load this product to read the PDF file.

    Good luck.

  • I can't open pdf files in firefox, and I tried all the solutions proposed by others. How can I reactivate pdf in firefox?

I have recently switched to Firefox to Google Chrome, and I find that I can't open all PDFs from the web in some way in Firefox. I can't download them and open them in Adobe Reader and I can't preview them in Firefox, or I can use the plugin from Adobe. I tried to use the solutions posed by users on this site, but none of them have worked. Whenever I have an amendment to the settings to try to resolve this problem, change never allows me to view the pdf file, and the setting reverts to the previous setting after the browser is restarted. I don't like how to display the file, but I need to be be able to see a preview or I need to be able to download it.

I use an adobe download add-on, 3.0.0.2, and I have disabled. Now, I can actually open pdf files in my browser shows a preview, or download them as I see fit. Thank you!

But clearly, there is an error with the add-on.

    Hi nancye22519208 ,

Please right-click on any PDF on your system, then go to properties > under general, you will find "opens with". Here you will see 'change' option, by clicking on it, wil give you a window from which you can choose the Acrobat Standard XI as a default for PDF files.

  • Windows 10 - cannot open pdf files in MS Reader

Hello, I have recently updated my phone company to 10 Windows in Windows 7. I have been using Acrobat Reader XI without problems. Since I was walking, opening PDF files always ends without response. After you open the PDF, he held only icon for a few seconds and then nothing (not even a blink of a new window / frame). I already tried several methods:

    • Uninstalling XI player associated with the application of advanced uninstaller. Put it back, with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
    • Complete uninstall of the CD with AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015 player. Then reinstall > unsuccessful
    • I also tried the CD Player update to the latest version, and then using to repair mechanism (help > repair installation) > same result

When I open the CD (shortcut or *.exe) directly, it runs normally and it allows me to open probably almost any PDF file as in the past. But if I trie to open any PDF file, it doesn't do anything. After consulting the table of processes through the Task Manager, I discovered that there are two processes that are running in the background "Adobe Acrobat Reader (32-bit) DC". It is + 2 after trying to open another PDF file / CD player.

I also had this same problem on different machines. This is quite annoying, because I don't want to use the native Windows player...

Try to install the update mode without failure or another account admin user. If it works, check if you still have the PDF problem. If so, try what is displayed below links Safe Mode.

    Safe mode - subject

    Safe mode - Yosemite

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in the system Prefeences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

If it works in safe mode, try to run this program when it is started normally, copy and paste the result in a response. The program was created by Etresoft, a regular contributor.  Use please copy and paste the screenshots can be difficult to read. On the screen with the Options, please open Options and tick the boxes in the bottom 2 before the race. Click on the button "Report share" in the toolbar, select "Copy to Clipboard" and then paste into a response. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

For some reason, your Firefox is who identified himself as version 9 instead of version 19. If you select help > about Firefox, can you verify that you have version 19.0.2 or click Find updates and get the current version?

19 of Firefox has an internal PDF Viewer. To switch to a different Viewer, see the following article: How to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another Viewer. Note that this does not apply to earlier versions of Firefox.

Finally, please note that current versions of Adobe Reader 10.1.6 and 11.0.2. For your safety, make sure you have a current version.
