Reading / writing skills on shared and mapped external hard

I'm trying to share an external hard drive with other computers on my network peer-to-peer. I shared and set permissions on the host computer so that everyone can do everything.

I have the drive mapped to the receiving computers and they can see the drive and open files (read only), but could not be saved on the mapped drive.

What Miss me?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi Larry,

·         You want to save the files on the drive?

·         Do you want to allow other users to save files on the disk?

If you want to allow users on the network to save the files on the disk, you can check disk permissions to ensure that full access is checked to allow people to save files to the drive.

Although you mentioned that you have provided complete access to the also, ensure that it is done correctly.

    Hi Rae3000,

Vista cannot update files automatically from music on external drive folder or vice versa.

When you play a file on your computer or on the Internet, the Player automatically adds the file to your library if it isn't already in your library. The reader does not automatically add a file that you play from removable storage media, a device removable storage, or on a shared network folder

I currently store my pictures on and an external hard drive.  Lightroom 6 was not able to find the picture momentarily files.  I inserted an external Flash DRIVE after removing the hard drive and the computer renamed the stick with the same drive letter that has been designated by Lightroom to store my photos.  I could go into my Windows 10 and reset the player to the letter that Lightroom has given at the beginning of the external hard drive.   However, I know this can happen again, if I connect any stick USD or another device, while the external hard drive is not connected to my laptop.   I found the information that I can do the new designation of the final drive by choosing a letter it is 1/2 way or higher in the alphabet.   I would like to turn an external hard drive on a strong letter, warns we hope this previous problem.   My question is, if I already have a lot of pictures on this external hardrive with the designation of the current drive, how it becomes a higher letter and have 6 Lightroom recognizes files, now under the new designation of drive letter without having to go to each photo individually and manually force Lightroom 6 find each photo.  It would take more time than I'd like to lose.  Is there a way to get just 6 Lightroom to recognize the new disk designation has changed and is able to find all of the existing files?

I have read the ADOBE LightRoom 6 manual and seem not to be able to find anything on how to do it.

    Any help would be welcome.

    Thank you!

So in Windows, you can select a drive like q letter (or any other letter you want only towards the end of the alphabet)

Then in Lightroom, you can reconnect to the photos on q: the following instructions (see specifically 4 Figure and related text)

  • Use the TC for backup and as external hard drive

    Hello

Can I use TC for backup and as external hard drive?

If yes then when it is full, TC erase my personal data I have stored in TC as a hard drive or erase the oldest backups?

    1. Yes, but you shouldn't. Your working data and backups must be on separate drives in case one of them goes down.

    2. Time Machine will not erase the data it did not originally there.

  • Moving shared files on external hard drive

I'm moving my photos, videos and iTunes library on an external hard drive, then remove them from my computer to clear space on my Sony Vaio.  I'm running in endless pop-up windows informing me that ' this folder is shared with other people / deleting this folder it is is no longer shared.  The problem with that is that rather than starting the transfer of a large part of the data and to be able to go do something else while it works for a few hours, I have to stay in front of the computer, as the transfer stops until I approve the transfer.  A waste of time.  I tried to change the files so that they are not shared, but I was told that is not possible.  I am the only user of the computer and there only one account user.

    So two questions:
    1. is there a way I can stop the pop ups and just be able to start a transfer of large file without interruptions?
    2. is there a way to do everything on my computer (including everything I add later) unrequited?  I don't think I have any use for the function.

    Thank you

    Hello

    1. did you of recent changes to the system before the show?

    Cause:

This is due to the way in which the access control list (ACL) is questioned by Windows Explorer to determine if the folder is shared. When the folder parent and child have different permissions, security two entries are returned, which causes the browser to treat the file as if it is shared.

Method 1: Perform a clean boot

Follow the steps in the link below to perform the clean boot and see if you can transfer the files.

Note: once you are done with the boot, follow step 7 in the link to your computer in normal mode.

    Method 2:

Follow the link below and check if that helps.

You receive a warning popup when you delete a folder that has a change to the ACL

  • Can I use time capsule from Apple and an external hard drive that is connected to my Mac at the same time to save?

I have an external hard drive (1 TB ADATA HV620) and a time capsule of Apple 2009. So far I have used the external drive-DATA to back up regularly on my Mac, but it uses one of my USB slots. I would like to start using the time capsule from Apple to everything back up, as it does so wireless, but I still want to be able to back up by using the ADATA hard drive occasionally. Is it possible to use two devices to back up or can I use only one device? Thank you.

You can use the two devices, but Time Machine... If that's what you use to back up... can back up only to a disc at a time. So if you set up Time Machine to back up on both discs, it will support drive until one first, then the other after the first drive of the backup is complete.

  • Windows 8 and USB external hard drives

I want a new dv7 with Windows 8 and an Iomega Prestige 1 TB external hard drive I use successfully on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. It behaves erratically in Windows 8. Sometimes it is not recognized at all. Sometimes it is, but trying to access it via Explorer, Windows crashes requiring a diet forced down. Other times, you can access it with success and even copy a file to it with Solution Explorer, but if you try to copy multiple files with the same drag and drop, it displays the calculation time to copy file window, but the calculation done so forever, just stays there. Also, when you try an Xcopy in the prompt with mutiple files and / or files, copy the first file he is suspended from the command window. The system has a newly updated BIOS and all installed Windows updates. Ideas?

Tried moving the Iomega for a USB 3.0 drive (the drive is 3.0 and 2.0 compatible) 2.0 in Windows 8 port and it now works fine. No idea whether the problem with USB 3.0 with Windows 8, HP or Iomega.

  • Backup to Time Capsule and an external hard drive

    Hi all

For several years, I use as a router Time Capsule and a backup device. Recently I found information about to associate an additional external hard drive for backup. For me it's a backup just to be sure when my Time Capsule would fail.

I found information on the internet that it was easy to switch between the two devices. I connected the external hard drive in the time Capsule.

But after installing the external hard drive my Time Capsule is not able to back up more!

Please, could you help me find a solution. It would be great for me.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Diana

I suggest that you get first back ups goes again on the Time Capsule, then we can discuss adding the USB key as a second backup source.

For now, if please power off the power and unplug the USB of the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences, then open Time Machine

Make sure that Time Machine is running

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup drives, make sure that the Time Capsule disk (named 'Data', unless you have changed the name) appears

If it isn't, then click data under available disks

    Then, click on disk use

Close the window and now, click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen

Click on NTI Backup Now and who should get backups start on the Time Capsule

After the return when you have confirmed that this is the case

  • CS6 mobile to a new laptop and an external hard drive

My old macbook pro is close is dead, so I bought a new macbook, however, I don't really want to have my CS6 apps on the phone, but want to have on an external drive and work outside that. I tried just moving them and their open the reader plugged into the new macbook, but it don't like it and asked me to reinstall.

No idea how to move these applications, so I can reuse them?

    Thank you

You can't run Adobe software from an external drive. The software must be installed on the same drive as the system software.

  • How or why my computer reassign letters of my dvd player and my external hard drive?

I can't reconnect to the files in my photoshop elements program because the drive letters have been reassigned.  Any idea what caused this?  I did not notice when it happened, so don't remember is not the circumstances that may have it.

Another device was probably used this drive letter when disconnected, you can change it back:

If another device is using the drive letter, first change this device.

  • Is it possible to extract personal folders from my hard drive and transfer to an external hard drive if Windows does not start?

Hello, I recently started my Windows XP Dell computer and it should start up normally unless it would run the ChkDsk utility. It would freeze then 68% on stage 1 and goes no further. I called the people of Dell and after trying so many solutions, including safe mode, safe mode with network and CommandPrompt, we ran the diagnosis. The hard drive and memory are fine, no errors. He concluded that it was the operating system and must be restored. However, I have important files, I need to extract from my hard drive and he recommended me an external hard drive. I bought it, but now I'm not sure how to extract my files from my drive hard if Windows can not even boot the desktop computer. Is it possible to extract these files without the use of the desktop computer?

And you've burned the .iso image, and not as data? If Yes, then you have created a bootable CD. Put it in your optical drive and restart the computer. You may need to change the boot order in your BIOS. With some machines, you can get a temporary startup command menu by pressing a function such as F12 at startup. Other computers require that you enter setup and change the boot order in the optical drive first of all from there. When you start your computer it will be information about which key press to enter the BIOS (Setup) or give you the temporary boot order.

After you changed the boot order to boot first from the CD and rebooted the computer, Knoppix will boot. Have your external hard drive connected to the computer before you start doing this. After Knoppix is finished booting, you will be in his office. It will be very similar to Windows. There are icons on the desktop for your internal hard drive and the external hard drive. Copy files from the internal to the external drive as you want. Review what I wrote about the use of Knoppix in my previous answer. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!
