Receive a "prepairing standby" while performing Windows updates.

Windows Update

Windows install an automatic upgrade on my lap top yesterday (Friday). Said they would restart automatically when the upgrade completed. Screen froze on the message 'Preparing to standby' since then. Turning off and on a few returns to the screen message. No response to any typed or requests to close etc. of mouse.

Help please...

Press and hold the power button on the computer for 8 or so seconds to turn it off. Wait a minute or two and turn it back on. If you can, start safe mode. Leave completely load mode without failure. Then, restart in normal mode.

Come back if you have problems (or even if you have not - to report that.) 'ha')

    Can anyone help? Please

    Hi Suziwhy,

1 are you this error during upgrade to Windows 8.1 or during the installation of Windows updates?

    2. What is the brand and model of the computer?

If you get this error when installing Windows updates, then it normally occurs because the file Wups2.dll included in the latest version of Windows Update is incorrectly installed or became non registered.

I suggest you to re - register the Wups2.dll file and check if this solves the problem.

Follow the steps to re - register the file by using the command prompt:

    a. press the Windows key + X , and then select (admin) command prompt.

    b. run the following commands and press ENTER after each one:

    net stop wuauserv

    regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll

    c. now, you will receive a verification message that the DLL is registered. Click OK.

    d. start the automatic updates service. To do this, type the following command at the prompt (admin) command and press ENTER:

    net start wuauserv

    e. type Exit.

  • Error message: "the site has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view", while running Windows updates.

Original title: Windows updates works do not, cannot get windows updates

I had to reinstall Windows XP service pack 2. I went to the updates and got this message. The website has encountered a problem and can not display the page that you are trying to view  I tried several times and got the same results.

The problem is that you need to install Service Pack 3 before being able to get all post-SP3 updates. :-)

Here's what you need to do:
    Preliminary work:

Download the installation files of SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)

(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/security-essentials (for MMS)

    1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!

    2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:

Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates

Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.

    3. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.

    4. switch to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).

    5 install MSE.

(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).

    6. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):

Start | Control Panel | Security Center

(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)

    7. visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.

    8. reactivate the automatic updates.

  • KB2852386 is not clean Windows Update as expected files

October 8 (Patch Tuesday), I installed all the Windows updates new for my system (Win 7 SP1 x 64).  I was particularly happy to KB2852386, as it should have allowed me to pick up a lot of disk space.

The patch installed fine, and I found the button "Clean up system files" in the disk cleanup window. Using it, I found that I have 3.95 GB of files from Windows Update that can be removed (just what I expected).  So I ran the program, re-directed the disk cleanup utility to verify that the Windows Update files were cleaned and then restarted my system (it's my understanding that you should restart the system to actually get out clean files).

When the system was stop, I received a 'Windows configure Windows updates... "(ou quelque chose comme) message."  When the system is restarted, I started with something similar, but then received the message "configuration of the Windows updates failed. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer. "When the message finally reached (several minutes), I got a"Stop"message and the system has rebooted.

To restart, I found that I had to reinstall KB2676562, KB2872339, KB2882822, and IE10.  Go in disk cleanup, I found that I still 3.95 GB of files of Windows Update that can be cleaned.

I have all this repeated several times, hoping it would work.  He never did.

Any ideas on how to get it to work?  Alternatively, is there a way to clean up the files manually?

The fact that the link exists does not guarantee that the two stores are not synchronized, it is just an indicator.

It seems to me that all drivers in the package of the remote desktop client are corrupted.  Which may also extend to the whole of the remote desktop services, because they are both installed at the same time by a single KB (KB2592687).  This is the package (8 Remote Desktop) of "RDP8".  If my assumption is correct, then you need to remove the headings for all these drivers:

    BTH.inf

    tsgenericusbdriver.inf

    tsusbhubfilter.inf

    termkbd.inf

    termmou.inf

There's a 2nd number at work here, however.  RDP8 package you have not actually changed.  Instead, a package that depends on a, and when the package which it depends is scheduled to uninstall which makes RDP8 also eligible to be uninstalled.  This package is known as the 'DTLS' (KB2574819) package.  You probably version v1.007 of the DTLS package, which has a bug in its packaging that allows him to be replaced and removed, while RDP8 is still in need of him.  The difficulty that you can install the package here DTLS v2.000 version: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2574819/en-us

My recommendation is to get through with the cleaning, remove the registry entries for the above inf files and allow the uninstall to complete.  After that, I suggest that you run the update of the tool (checksur.exe) system to see if there are any other corruptions which need to be repaired.  Then download DTLS v2 and install and re-install the package RDP8.  (available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687/en-us)

If all goes well, which should eliminate the known corruption problems.

  • How to control the Windows updates are installed on the Windows Surface of RT

I recently had to perform a refresh to solve the problem with desktop on the desktop icons that appear as spaces. After the update, I had to reinstall the update for Office 2013. When I went to Windows Update to do this, I found it with a group of 9 other updates, these 9 were all marked as ready for download and installation, Office 2013 update is not checked. I disabled the office 2013 update and not the other 9 updates, thinking that I could make those after I had Office installed upgrading so I would like to know if my taskbar icon problem has been resolved. At the bottom of the screen even when the Office update was the only update checked I chose to install updates. The Surface actually installed all updates, not only the update of Office.

Is there a way to control which Windows updates are installed in fact at some point? Unchecking them made no difference.

  • Windows Update uninstalled audio output? (Conexant HD)

I'm running a Pavilion DV9700 with Vista Home Premium. Windows decided to do an automatic update this afternoon and I now no sound. When I move the mouse over the tray icon, I see "No Audio output device installed. It was working perfectly before this update.

Here is what I tried (and results) and try (reason).
I can't update the driver for a device that is not installed.
I searched on hard disk for Conexant, audio, player, sound. Unable to find anything that will help you.
I thought to uninstall updates... but there are about 40 of them, and there must be a better solution.

I can not deal with no music... any advice would help.

BTW, I already said the system can perform automatic updates, but that's another debate for another day.

The update removed somehow the audio device. I tried to download and reinstall, but kept running into problems with the installation. My system did not create (first time I ever saw that) restore points, so I had nothing. I ended up restarting in safe mode and perform Windows Update setting, then reboot back into normal mode, and he's back.
