Hi Gary,.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community and thanks for posting the question.

According to the description, you have problems with the computer not start.

This problem can occur because of a hardware problem.

Proceed as from the link below and check if that helps.

"Operating system not found" or the "Missing operating system" error message when you start your Windows XP-based computer

Warning: Be careful when you change the settings of the BIOS (Basic Input Output System). The BIOS interface is designed for advanced users, and it is possible to change a setting that can prevent your computer from starting properly. BIOS update should be made only if necessary (to solve a compatibility problem, for example). It can be a complicated process, and if an error occurs, your computer could be rendered inoperative. Be sure to observe the instructions of the manufacturer.

Meet us if you face problems with computer not start or any other issue of Windows, and we would be happy to help you.

Good day!

Hope this information helps.

    Hello

    If you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your laptop there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

    The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

    Ask them to the proper key sequence.

    Also some manufacturers have more available recovery Vista disc.

    If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

    You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

    Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

    And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

    What Iattemp to start my computer an error message appears on the screen-not found operating system

    Hi zigboogie,

    1. were you able to boot the computer before the show?
    2. don't you make changes before the show?

    If you were able to start the computer before the show, then try the Startup Repair tool and check the result. To do this, try the following steps.
    Step 1: The repair of the boot with Vista DVD
    a. Insert the Windows DVD.
    b. restart your computer.
    c. let the computer restart (boot) from the DVD.
    d. If you are prompted, press a key to continue.
    e. When you reach the screen install Windows, select your preferences in the language to install, time and currency format and keyboard or input method boxes, and then click Next.
    f. do not click install now. Instead, click on repair your computer. The System Recovery Options dialog box appears.
    g. make sure that the appropriate operating system is selected, and then click Next.
    h. After you click Next, the System Recovery Options menu appears.
    i. click on startup repair. Once the Startup Repair tool is completed, click Finish to restart the computer.
    j. remove the DVD and restart the computer to see if the system boots fine.

    Go into the BIOS (Basic input/outputSystem (BIOS) and make the hard drive as first boot device.) See BIOS: Frequently asked questions

    Important: Change the BIOS incorrectly will cause serious damage.

  • After my computer will crash does not start has a black screen with message operating system not found. Responsible for recovery disc but wont start.

    not boot Vista after that computer crashed have a black screen with message operating system not found.recovery discs won't load

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Above is the way you normally boot from the Vista recovery disks.

    If you have tried to boot from the recovery without success disks, contact the manufacturer of your computer.

    This isn't their recovery process, Microsoft.

  • I just bought Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista. I get the error message: operation is not supported on this platform. What should I do to get this latest version in my computer?

    The upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

    I just bought Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista. I get the error message: operation is not supported on this platform. What should I do to get this latest version in my computer?

    Have you tried to do an upgrade installation or a custom installation?  A custom installation requires you to back up your files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer and then reinstall everything after installing the new.  If an update install does not install work, you need to do a custom.

    In addition, a Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade will not work and you get a message from a platform if you have bought a UA and tried to use it with Vista.  Vista upgrade requires a detail, a copy in the Windows 7 box.

  • Booting from a flash drive fails with a message: operating system not found

    I tried to boot from a flash drive, but it says operating system not found. Is there something wrong, that I did? I used a program called ISO on USB and he managed to copy the installer of Ubuntu on my flash drive.

    As you try to install a Linux operating system, I recommend you this announcement in a Linux forum. Not many people on these forums will be familiar with the installation of LInux.

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
  • After that upgrade to 9.01 startup of firefox gives the error message mozcrt19.dll not found.
    After the upgrade to firefox 9.01 with windows xp, I get every time firefox tries to throw the error message "this application has failed to start because MOZCRT19.dll is not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
    Well, reinstalling does not fix this problem!
    I even uninstalled firefox, deleted all files with the hint of mozilla or firefox on his behalf and did the same with the registry, reinstalled firefox 9.01 but still get the same result.
    If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then disable virtualization and reinstall Firefox.
    Try installing Windows 7 from XP and keep having this error message before choosing my instalation method, Windows not able to retrieve information about the disks on this computer.
    Because the migration from Windows XP to Windows 7 requires a clean install anyway, might as well you are backing up your important files and settings using Windows Easy Transfer and do a custom clean install by booting from the Windows 7 DVD.
    the question?
    3. When was the last time you had installed Windows updates?
    You can set Windows to automatically install important and recommended updates or to install important updates only. Important updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability. Recommended updates can address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. Optional updates are not downloaded or installed automatically.
