Recover. MIG in XP or Vista files

Hello

Recently, I decided to upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7. However, I am yet to make the transition to Windows 7 as my broken laptop until I got the chance to install windows 7.

That said, I had done the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up my files to an external hard drive.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to retrieve my. MIG in XP or Vista files on another machine. I probably won't use my copy of Windows 7 until I get new hardware but hold my files in the meantime.

Kind regards

According to a poster of technet, these instructions will try to play these files in Vista:http://www.visser.com.au/blog/migrecover-for-microsofts-windows-easy-transfer/ teengeek.freehostingcloud.com

Is there a list somewhere of the Vista file extended properties and the index numbers associated with them?  For example, Index 0 can be the name, 1 index can be sized and 2 Index can be file type and so on.  In my view, there are more than 200 Vista file extended properties and they cover all types of files such as image files to the music files to regular documents.

Can someone point me in the right direction or give them here?

    Hi Bdsii,

Thanks for posting on Microsoft answers Community Forums.

The Indexing Service is based on the file systems, you currently have on your computer. Since you have Vista is the NTFS file system.  It works on both Windows XP and Vista.

You can take a look at the link below which gives you information about indexing option both on the FAT and NTFS file system. That should answer most of your question with indexing.

    It will be useful.

The issue here is not one of which version of Windows you are using.
It is one of what you have installed applications.

The answer is Yes, if you have WordPerfect (or some compatible)
program) installed on Windows Vista. The answer is no, if you do not.

I recently changed to windows 7 from vista. I was wondering if there is a way to recover old photos of the vista operating system... If so can someone help me

If you did an upgrade and not a clean install, they must remain on your drive. Do a search of *.jpg, *.jpeg and see what you get. If I remember correctly, you will have a folder windows.old that they appear in. You can use Windows Explorer if you want to look in your records in the Windows.Old directory.

    I hope this helps.

  • The old Outlook Express under Vista file recovery

I have a file called "Outlook Express" that was recovered from my XP machine failure.  I bought a new computer with Vista.  Vista mail will not import these files of messages in this folder in OE.  How to import these old messages in Windows Mail; or d ' elsewhere-how to access and read those old emails with any method?
    Thank you. ***

In Outlook Express folder should be several files with names like Sent.dbx, Inbox.dbx and Folders.dbx.  The last one is particularly important.  If these files exist, you can import Outlook Express messages in Windows Mail:

    1. Press ALT + F .
    2. Click on import > Messages > Microsoft Outlook Express > Next .
    3. Click on Import mail from an OE6 store directory > OK .
    4. Navigate to the Outlook Express folder, click Next , and follow the prompts.

Just one question: you have MS Office? If so, then try to save your word of the e-mail file and open separately with Word.

If not, you now know what the problem: you don t just that Word and you should buy a desktop software if you want to read your word files. :)

  • If I upgrade to win 7 I will lose data stored vista files?

can anyone help? If I update to windows 7 I will lose data stored. That is, movies, music

An upgrade maintains your files, a custom installation does not work. It's a good idea to back up your files before upgrading to Windows 7.

Back up all your files and settings to avoid losing documents, photos and other information. Windows Easy Transfer is a free tool to copy files (not programs) from your PC and then transfer back after installation of Windows 7. If you don't want to use Windows Easy Transfer, you can copy your files to a Flash DRIVE or CD/DVD. Note: The easy transfer will not work when changing languages, or when moving from 64 bit to 32 bit (it will work ranging from 32-bit to 64-bit).

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/Windows-easy-transfer

    Installation - 'upgrade' means what?
Upgrade means that you can install Windows 7 simply by inserting the Windows 7 upgrade software in the DVD drive of your PC and follow the instructions on the screen. While you are not required to backup and reinstall your files, or reinstall your programs, it is a very good idea to back up your files and settings before you start any upgrade to the software. Get more information on the software updates and best practices .

Installation - what does "Custom (Clean)" Mean?
A custom (clean) installation clears the contents of the hard drive of your PC. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7. This means that to install Windows 7, you must:

    • Back up any files and settings you want to keep

    • Install Windows 7

    • Reinstall all your files

    • Reinstall all the programs you want to use.

These four steps take time, skills, techniques and Windows Easy Transfer can help. However, if you are not comfortable with this process, please consider having the installation carried out by a local service provider.

  • How can I recover my old data settings document files firefox bookmarks and favorites of ie8.

I need to reinstall windows xp sp2 I turned off my pc by updating the os now I ask a question after the reinstallation of the sp2 would be it possible to recover my old data settings firefox favorites bookmarks of ie8 and norton antivirus 360 documents.

You might see if this folder is located on your computer.  Depending on how you installed Windows, it could be an old version of some files in pre-installation.

    C:\Windows.Old\

But beyond that, there's no other place I could think that perhaps it would be after a reinstallation.

Shameless plug for the new version:
If you used Windows 8, all of your documents, files, Favorites, bookmarks are saved on your Microsoft Account so that you can use them even if you get a new computer (or reinstall an old one).

  • Recovering data after you accidentally delete files

I have compressed files and files have been compressed.  Then I moved all the files compressed and created a Briefcase.  I then moved the Briefcase to the taskbar at the bottom of my screen.  Then I removed the towel that was on my desk.  I then tried to open the case of the bar of tasks and could not open the Briefcase.  I tried to restore the original portfolio thinking it was them recylcling bin and it wasn't there.  All shows are now shortcuts to all of my files, but I can't find or access files.  Yet the files are somewhere on my computer as memory has not changed.  I followed all the instructions on recovering the files and files and all I get are shortened and information who are unable to find the files.

Then, it seems as if they were written on... Sorry, you're out of luck.

  • Duplicate in Vista files

    Hello!

I use Windows Vista on my laptop. Currently I have about 8 GB of space on my drive of 70 Gig. There is no way that I have that much data on my machine...

    My question is:

Is it possible for me to check and see if the files are be duplicated or where some of these massive files are stored? I don't really have enough experience to do anything other than searching through individual files & folders and there must be a better way, right?

My machine has really slowed down recently, and the lack of hard drive space is disconcerting. I know that probably doesn't have much to do with the performance of the machine itself, but I would like to address that first.

    Thanks for your help,

    Gfunc

One thing to try, if you have not already is disk cleanup.  Please follow the steps below.

Click the Start ORB, type disk cleanup in the Search box and press enter

Disk Cleanup will scan your system and find all the files that do not exist to delete.

Once the scan is finished it will tell you how much space it will be able to release.

    Click OK

Click on delete files in the Disk Cleanup dialog box.

Disk Cleanup will present the process of cleaning your hard drive.

We have also provided information on the system restore and restore points that may be very large files.

How space hard disk System Restore require?

To store restore points, you need at least 300 megabytes (MB) of free space on each hard disk with the system on Protection. System Restore can use up to 15 percent of the space on each disk. As the amount of space fills up with restore points, System Restore deletes older restore points to make room for the new.

System Restore will not work on hard disks smaller than 1 gigabyte (GB).
