Recovering from a failed computer

I use Photoshop Elements 6.  My old Windows XP motherboard failed, but drive hard, that's fine.  I am able to access it through a USB enclosure.  I bought a new computer running Windows 7 and that you have installed Photoshop Elements 6 on the subject.  I know that the best way to move a catalog and photos from one computer to another with PS Elements should a PS backup on one computer and a restoration of PS on the new computer, but it will not work in my case.  What files should I copy my old external hard drive now to my new computer and where should I put them.  Thanks in advance for all you can give me advice.

Aloha,

-Jack

You want to move all your photos, so that they are in the same folder location exactly as they were before the motherboard crashed.

So, you want to move your file catalog (*.psedb) from your old hard drive to the new hard drive and double-click it.

  • I am trying to recover my old favorites (and, hopefully, history) from my old computer to transfer to my new computer.

I got the hard drive from my old computer and am trying to transfer my old files to it, but I'm not sure where to find the old bookmarks files. It would be wonderful if you could also help to recover the history - I was in the habit of keeping a large number of tabs open and simply restore everytime I restarted my computer, so a lot of data was lost when my computer crashed.

    Hello

If the backup files are intact, then you would be able to copy the files required in the backup after installing Firefox and it works at least once in the new PC.

    Backup

    Firefox profile folder

You must copy and overwrite the files needed from the old profile folder in the same folder structure in the new profile. Some important files might be places.sqlite who holds the bookmarks and history, the cert8.db that stores personal and other certificates, signons3.txt + signons.sqlite that stores websites registered names to user/passwords etc. To open the profile folder, in Firefox, help (Alt + H) > troubleshooting information > Open the containing folder and the release of Firefox.

    Hello

The solution can be easy or difficult depending on the cause of the problem.

Check with a real store of the computer (not the leeks and the glances at a Best Buy or other stores)
    or HP support.

    ------------

    The Easy:

You still get the Bug_Check? Update the BIOS, chipset of low-level drivers and other large
device drivers. Those included in the recovery is very old in the time of the computer. (Do this to be
you still get the error or not.)

  • Recover from virus Cryptolock

the best way to recover from the virus cryptolock? Also the file "firefox.exe" was lost during the virus cleaning. The rest of the tree under 'Program files/Mozilla Firefox' dir dir is intact. Of course, all standard file types that this virus goes after are encrypted under dir tree 'My Documents'. Most of the files are there, but others are encrypted. All this occur on a windows XP home 32 bit PC.

Firefox was the default web access program, so many other programs that try to access the web through Firefox crash or do not run right. There are a number of add ons to Firefox (such as epub, and other readers, PDF, translators, download manager, etc.). Some of the these have files that where encrypted.

On the lack of response I got from this forum, I had to take this resolution into my own hands and here are the results.

First of all, I made a backup of all the games of dir that Firefox uses under 'Programs' and 'Documents and Settings '. It was a precautionary measure against losing some file that may need sill, such as bookmarks and other personalization data. Currently there is no help from this forum about what to do, I copied everything. Downloaded the latest version (29 in this case) of the installer on another computer, then put it on a USB key to switch to the computer being repaired. MS Internet Explorer has never been setup or used (although the updates where installed) on computer repair. I didn't go in time to see that if IE does not work, it is not the point here. Then I moved the install file to a temp on computer repair dir, then he ran. He installed all Firefox and as expected had some problems with Add-ons. Through Add-ons one at a time, only necessary an update download and where well, Microsoft .net should be removed/uninstalled and reinstalled to operate. Then I went back through sets of dir and removed all of the encrypted files that when left behind, not in use anyway. The backup of files where not necessary and I will be remove soon. At the moment, all right. See that it was not so difficult to explain.

And Philipp, yes I will be to move to a more recent OS in the near future. But I'll be it during my own choice and need to run two computers at the same time I have to transfer data and programs.

We can never be in a hurry to spend money.

    Hello!

The hidden partition you want to say has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery image.
There are files for system restore, and it is a feature of Vista, not Toshiba. If you want more information about the restore of the system here is a good article from Wikipedia:
    http://en.Wikipedia.org/wiki/WinRE

The HARD drive recovery folder contains the original recovery image and if you don t have access to this folder and do not burn the recovery disc, you need a new.
You can get one from an ASP, but you can also order a disc here:
