  I used the lasso tool to make a selection of foreground of a picture, but when I click on refine edge, the selected area appears in the background.  I tried clicking on reverse before I clicked on refine edge, & he's still hurt.  What I am doing wrong - why is - what happens?

• Using refine edge (or select and mask) only on a part of an existing mask

  Is it possible to use refine edge (or select & mask) only on a part of a mask to avoid mess with what is already ready to go? (which to choose and mask tends to often especially when you use the brush, then the border brush refine for example).

  Kinda like the gel with fluidity tool or masking of the areas you want to not use when using content aware.

  PS: I would like to be able to do it directly on the mask, I train without having to store selections as a channel. This is because it is not convenient when you want to do a lot of time on complex selections.

  I don't know of any provision aimed at limiting (gel) edge tool refine in some and mask - sounds like a great idea to raise here:

  However, I used workaround, to refine part of the mask, that doesn't involve not only save as channels and takes longer to describe than to do:

  1. prepare your initial mask and save with the layer.
  2 click once on this mask
  3. use the lasso tool to draw around the area you want to change (refine)
  4. make a right click the mask and click "Intersect with selection".
  5. fill in the new selection with black (on the layer mask)
  6. now double-click the mask to open it, select and mask. You will notice that only the area you want to refine is indicated.
  7 tools to refine this area of your mask
  8. Once done select "output to selection", and then click OK
  9. make sure that the mask is highlighted, and then fill the selection refined with White - this puts a new version of the section that you filled with black previously.

• Refine edge tool makes no difference

  After making my selection, I go to "refine edge" and use the brush to change the selection - except nothing happens. No changes occur to the selection. I watched YouTube tutorials, checked my settings, even reset my settings and nothing. What is going on?
  P.S. It happened randomly, all of a sudden, not only after an update or anything, it just stopped working. That is what it is? So frustrating! I'm doing a photo restoration and need it works!

  FYI, Refine Edge went in its new version of Photoshop and was replaced by Select and mask.

• Select and artifacts of mask using the new refine edge

  Hi all

  is - that someone else has had this problem since the last update version 2015.5.0 Photoshop?

  I find strange artifacts when using select and mask and the new brush refine edge that would not happen in the old refine edge.

  The Alpha channel looks good but the image shows of strange artifacts and blurry tasks and resembling traces of brush end hard.

  I took the time to correct my mask in order to remove any traces of brush hard edge, but they seams to still be there. I find it very frustrating.

  

  Hmmm... think I just found the answer to my question. I got the color box to decontaminate tiquetee.

  I have hidden without this box and the blur and artifacts disappeared. My recommendation for anyone making high range of editing and masking is to leave this box unchecked.

• PS 2015.5 - tool refine edge? Missing?

  With the new update of Photoshop, it seems that the tool improve the contour has been deleted or transformed into something else?
  Anyone shed any light on this? Its a tool that I would always use to quickly adjust my selections when you change the photograph.
  
  

  Nearest I can see who looks the same and is in the same location as the tool refine edge is Select and mask. It is under the right click of the selection.

• Can I repair my selection without leaving the tool to refine edge?

  Sometimes, when I'm cutting out images, I see a place where I need to squeeze a little towards the top of my selection.  Time often happens when I'm in the tool refine edge.  Normally, I leave the tool refine edge, make the settings on my selection and then return to the tool refine edge.

  Is there a way to make this tool improve the contour, so I must not leave this window to go back again?  Maybe a modifier key?

  What to do after you make the initial selection (usually with the Quick Selection tool), press the Q key to place the image in the quick mask.  This highlights the selected areas, making it easier to see if you have missed a few.  If the selection is likely to need some post improve the contour of fine-tuning, II verify decontaminate colors to force the output to "New layer with layer mask" so I can firm up an error with the layer mask.

  Something that I found to be a bad idea is to put a post selection refine edge in refine edge to correct errors.  That what is smooth on any detail of edge very well ruin the selection.  Much better to go back in history and do it again properly.

  Refine Edge is nowhere near the intuitive tool that they established when it was introduced, and almost all of the video tutorials that you see ideal object to use.  You almost never see someone trying to select hair from flyaway from a busy background, for example.  The tutorial by Martin Evening is the closest I can think of actually doing it.  It took me the age and age comfortable with refine edge, and I always find new ways to make it better.  Something that I hosted in recently turned on see the RADIUS to see if it encroaches too far in the selection, and if so, deleting some of them by painting with the ALT key.  If you disable Show RADIUS and artifacts, you went a little too far.  I find that this minimises this annoying thing where refine edge suddenly takes a bite out of what you want selected and makes it very thin.

  I just updated my photoshop and now the icon has an exclamation mark silhouetted to this topic and I have to open it from the button open the tab update program.  I can also locate the selection button "Refine edge" when I use "quick selection.

  The upgrade is a new version of the program. You will need to remove the old PS icon and add a new. (Let me know which operating system and I can be more specific).

• My tool "refine edge" is broken. Help!

  I need a hand. I made a selection, click on "refine edge", then clicked on the edge tool to refine. But when I bring it on the image, it's the circle with the line through it instead of the tool. It's driving me crazy that it won't work. This is my favorite tool. any ideas?
