reformat a partitioned drive

I want to reformat on existing partitions. I would like to create two primary drives 20G that can start XP and Vista. I would have 180 GB left to the personal data. I see that the back must be on my drive to do all this how what makes?

See the following article (and follow the articles referenced for more information on the topic:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Can-I-repartition-my-hard-disk.)

Go to start / control Panell / administrative tools / computer management / disk management and then simply select the partitions that you want to format and format (do not select a system drive or the boot drive).  They must be contiguous if you want to combine.  Then, use the expand option to create larger partitions or command shrink to create smaller partitions.  Once you have them the way you want, make the active partitions and simply install the operating systems you want on the partitions you want and the start menu should adjust in order to allow a dual boot.  Seehttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Install-more-than-one-operating-system-multiboot for more on dual boot.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

  • How can I safely reformat my hard drive to boot?

Ok.  My mid-2011 Mac Mini is dead.  Graphics chip on the motherboard is gone belly up.  I have a second Mac Mini that was given to me by a friend who uses it is no longer.  Now, I want to load my apps on the new Mini.  First of all, I am trying to load Adobe CS6 but I get the following error:

At the start of the partition of disk or recovery that you will use to install the operating system, open disk utility, select the volume, click the Erase tab and specify the format desired.

Since you have a Dell and a recovery CD and not a recovery Partition, check how many partitions you need by using disk management:

    http://www.theeldergeek.com/disk_management.htm

In case you have a partition with the operating system and a partition of the utility partition, I would only recommend formatting the partition from the OS. The Partition utility can be very useful.

Computer is 6 years old LDP. I want to reformat the hard drive so it "s in the original as new condition.

I know that this will destroy any addition of files & programs.

    Need directions.

Look at your manual owner and/or your OEM (manufacturer of the computer - like Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.) Frequently asked questions for your computer.  Probably you have a partition that can be used with right to restore keys or you have a CD/DVD set to use or you should make such CD/DVD set or you can call the manufacturer and which now get (probably for a small fee given age) or you have the Windows actually any installation CD/DVD and the product key on the system itself.

    Hi Rrmay,

Thanks for posting. If you try to reinstall XP you can put your OS drive on your computer, or use the OEM recovery media to reinstall XP.

PERFORMING ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS WILL ERASE ALL DATA IN CUSTODY: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP BEFORE CONTINUING.

The OEM recovery media format the computer and automatically return to the plant as if it was when you first it lit. If you have XP software at retail, you can do the following to format and reinstall.

Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XP, a new installation is to remove all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstall the operating system and programs empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format your hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

313348 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348/) how to partition and format a hard disk in Windows XP

To perform a new installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:

    1. Back up all important information before you perform a new installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard drive.
    2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD or DVD and then reboot your computer.

Note To boot from the Windows XP CD, your computer BIOS settings must be configured to do this.

    3. When you see the message "Press any key to boot from CD", press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
    4. In the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
    5. Read the Microsoft software license agreement, and then press F8.
    6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
    7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of Windows XP.

  • Reformat a hard drive, but it still appears in "Tabs on other computers." How can I remove it?

Recently, I reformatted the hard drive in a PC and do not break the link of the account synchronization before doing so. The machine continues to be present when I pull down the menu option "Tabs from other computers"., even if I have not installed Firefox hard disk cool. How do I remove it from the list?

    Hello!

Unfortunately it is not possible at this stage. If something bothers you, next time you format a drive hard or generally remove a device from this point of view you should "untie this device" tab sync in the Preferences window.

Because you cannot return to this specific Firefox profile, you can't do it, but don't worry, it will disappear eventually (the servers store information for ever).

If you really want to remove it, you need to reset the account and reconnect all devices. To do this, you need to reset the recovery key and set up the account on your computer again. This is the process that we recommend when a device is lost. Make sure that you have a backup of your information before starting the: replace your synchronized data

And for information about how to back up your profile, follow this link: back up and restore the information contained in the profiles of Firefox

    I hope it helps.

  • How to live resize partitions 2 existing partitioned drive?

I have a 1.5 to - 2 partitioned drive I need to change the size of the partition 2. I need to make a smaller partition 1 and 2 large partition.

I have place to decrease the partition 1, so that I can increase the partition 2.

First of all, I reduce the size of partition 1, but am I that reason... until what I click on "Apply" in the bottom right of the disk utility window, that computer still considers that this hard drive is partitioned with the sizes of origin? And so if I simply decrease the size of the score graphically in the interface, then click on partition 2, I see the text: this partition cannot be resized.

So if I am wrong in this assumption, I must decrease partition 1 and apply. Then I can select partition 2 and increase it with the newly created space in partition 1?

If she is correct, when I click on apply in the first stage, the newly created space turn into another partition the partition between 1 and 2? And the next step would be to combine this small new partition in the original partition 2? Here are a few screenshots to better explain.

NOTE: Yes, I know that I need these 2 partitions to backup before applying resizing.

If I can reduce the size of partition 1, whose interface seems to help, I guess that with the good implementation, I should be able to expand the partition 2.

I use Lion 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro.

    Thank you

    Steven

If I can reduce the size of partition 1, whose interface seems to help, I guess that with the good implementation, I should be able to expand the partition 2.

No, it doesn't work like that.

You can reduce the size of partition 1, but you will not be able to reclaim that space for the 2nd partition. You need to remove the 2nd partition, and then add it back.

But beware, your free space currently for your 10.6.8 partition is marginal, in order to reduce the size of this partition does not seem a good idea. You may no longer be able to start from such a unit.

One of the disadvantages of partitioning is that you can not redistribute their sizes without redoing the readers.

Overall, you have not enough free space on this drive.

    2. click on programs and features.

    3. on the left side of the screen, click on 'Windows turn features on or off".

    4. find the entry called games & check the box next to it.

    5. click on OK.

    6 reset.

If the games box is already checked, uncheck the box , click OK, restart, then do steps 1-6 above.

  • I want to reformat the C drive, but rogue program won't let me.

I need to reformat my C:\ drive because my old computer has too much garbage.  However, when I click on the file menu or edit a menu program uninstalled this was't completely uninstalled guard appearing to install something.  I need to go to other areas on the computer to remove this uninstalled program.  Of course, there are pieces of it still in the program file.  Any suggestions

What you are proposing, it is shown in the following image.  Windows will not let you do.

You can reinstall Windows, which may include a reformatting of the main drive (usually c :)), which is usually excessive cleaning of garbage as is concerned.

If you have specific problems, describe the symptoms in as much detail as possible.  Include the version of Windows currently installed (Home, Pro, Media Center), the service pack installed (0, 1, 2, 3), the text of the error messages received, without paraphrase and a bit about the history of the complete problem.

    Hello

I saw the 0x0000007B BSOD caused by trying to install XP on a disk hard while the BIOS is designating the reader as AHCI instead of IDE. XP has no native AHCI drivers, resulting in a stop 7B. Unless the PC had originally Vista or Win 7, but it might be useful to check that it is not likely.

If the BIOS is set to AHCI, you could do one of three things (depending on whether your PC has a floppy drive)...

1 find the Setup F6 disk on AHCI support at installation time (start with the manufacturer's website if you do not already have such a thing). Watch the very hit F6 prompt early in the installation process.

    2. change the setting in BIOS on IDE / ATA

    3. create a new "slipstreaming" installation disc drivers AHCI in the existing installation disc, see http://www.nliteos.com/index.html

After the back if your BIOS is IDE / ATA

    Tricky
