Registry entry to force the installation of the updates of the player?

Greetings!

I tried to deploy updates to the reader through our network via GPO, but it has been a real, real problem. In addition, because some client computers are connected through slow links at the time of installation is sometimes excruciatingly long (configured computer GPO).

SMS is not an option right now, so I think that rather than use GPOS to manage centrally the drive updates I lower my arms and leave the choice to the users. So my question is if there is some sort of a registry setting which will force the Player updates to install once they are downloaded from the Internet. Or, Alternatively, if it is a kind of login script available which would check if there's a player update available for installation and install it by force. Or, Alternatively, if anyone has found a better way to deal with the nightmare of the Reader GPO deployment.

Hello

Well, as you said, GPO would have been the best option to update through a corporate network. You can view the guide at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83709/attachments/Acrobat_Enterprise_Administration.pdf. It can give you some more tips on how to maybe change your settings in order to ensure a quick installation.

As your second question, you can use the option "Install updates automatically" for the Player update, which automatically installs updates as and when it downloads everything. The registry entry to set the same is as below:

Before Reader 10.1:

[HKLM] \Software\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM\

Name: iCheck (DWORD)

Value: 3

Post Reader 10.1:

[HKLM] \Software\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM\

Name: iCheckReader (DWORD)

Value: 3

You can set the same using a script for connection via GPO. This will ensure that all as updates and available will settle as soon as its downloaded, provided no process of the drive is running at this time here.

For more details on all the configurations on update preferences, please see the following document:

Hope this helps

  • Are pre-existing registry entries overwritten by the installer?

    I was wondering what happens when creating a distribution installer that creates registry keys, but keys already exist on the target computer when the Setup program is run.  Change the keys to existing registry or the installer will skip them?

    Thank you.

    I think that they get too wrote.

    You do not get file or revision based on components with the CVI distribution Publisher: If the version of the installation is more recent than what was last used to install the application, it will overwrite everything in the distribution, even if later versions of the separate elements are present on the target.

    Distribution tools more efficient (for example InstllShield) can you give the desired probably behavior.

    I don't think the individual registry entries to wear a version on them: common practice is to use a different set of registry values for a more recent demand, not revised version of the keys and values.

  • cannot force the player to stop playback of the audio file

    Hi guys,.

    I'm stuck with the pretty easy task. I have an audio player, start playing the audio file and I just want to stop it, do not wait until the player arrives at the end of the media. But nothing happens! The media playing contiunes. And there is no response at all to my call to the stop method.

    Here is my sample code. I start player and is going to stop it in 3 seconds.

      private void play(InputStream path, String type) {

        try {
            // create an instance of the player from the InputStream
            player = javax.microedition.media.Manager.createPlayer(path, type);
            player.realize();
            player.prefetch();
            VolumeControl volumeControl = (VolumeControl) player.getControl("VolumeControl");
            volumeControl.setLevel(100);
            // start the player
            player.start();

            new Timer().schedule(new TimerTask() {
            public void run() {
                try {
                player.stop();

    I suggest that you run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage diagnostic tool in normal mode (not safe mode) and copy and paste the results into a response for further analysis:

    http://go.Microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52012

    Run the tool and when it ends, click the copy button, open a text such as Word or Notepad file and select Edit, paste. You can paste directly into an answer here. Open a response, right click and select Paste.

    This immediately gives you the product key, but it might help to show the way forward.

  • deleted registry entry

    I deleted a registry entry while trying to get rid of some spyware.  Stupidly, I failed to export first, so I can't restore the registry.  The deletion has only caused a problem:

    When I try to open an executable file by double-clicking or by right click and select 'Open', I get an error message saying: "there is no program associated with this file to perform this action."

    If I click with the right button on the program or shortcut and select "Start" it starts very well.

    Can someone tell me what was the registry entry that tells the computer that double-clicking an exe file means to launch?

    Have a look here for the extension .exe difficulty http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html

    It's a true statement.

    Hi all

    I found answers to my question on "Windows 7 Help Forums" http://www.sevenforums.com/> and a program to recreate and fix all the original Windows 7 hubs and symlink [attributes and security properties (full)], called 'Junction box' [site Web of Documentation: http://iwrconsultancy.co.uk/junctionbox>; and the download Web site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/junctionbox/?source=dlp>].

    I also found that there are more original than those listed above junctions.  My advice is to remove all the junctions, you could have recreated manually (or move them to your backup drive) before running "JunctionBox.exe" (using its configuration file "DefaultJunctions.ntj").  Then run it two or three times; because it is not recreate all the original joints the first time you run it.  It recreates the together the legacy of windows (see below), by default (C:\Users\Default), all users (C:\Users\All) and the current user (C:\Users\%UserName%), junctions on the first throw, but not the junctions of temp (C:\Users\Temp) and their targets. - you must re-create the junction target temp manually, yourself, if you want them to run.

    Here is MY updated 'Junction Box' 'DefaultJunctions_2.ntj' list of configuration files (list of all the original Windows 7 junctions):

    ; ===(Start of List) =.

    ; A list of the standard set of junctions in Vista and Windows 7, for the purpose of repair.
    ;
    ; The notation is as follows:
    ;  Section headers are userprofile-records unless otherwise noted by a full path.
    ;  Paths starting with a-specify a full path to the system root. (Usually C:\)
    ;  Starting paths by are relative to the container profile. (Usually C:\users)
    ;  Location paths and junction target are compared to [value] section header without qualifier.
    ; Default profile settings apply to all generic users when profiles are repaired.
    ; You can add sections for specific users, if it is not normally necessary.
    ; Wildcard characters or macros other that those listed above are not allowed.
    ; Junctions will be created using the target-full paths, regardless of the values relative or complete here.
    ; Note: Non-English speaking users will need to create their own file, sorry.

    [General]

    ; Displays warning if incompatible OS or system-language is found.
    OSVersions = WIN_VISTA, WIN_7, WIN_2008, WIN_2008R2, WIN_LONGHORN
    OSLanguages = 0409, 0809

    ; Force the creation of junctions in system or user files, or both.
    ; = 1 recreates (parts of)-structure of profile folders missing. Relatively safe to use.
    ; = 2 strength deletes any file, folder or the junction occupying the location target.
    ; -valuable when it comes to corrupt junctions, but use them carefully because may delete data.
    ; Default value is to leave alone the existing junctions and add only those missing, but set correct permissions on all.
    SystemForceCreation = 0
    UserForceCreation = 0

    For each virtual machine, I changed about 50 + key of Windows registry and detect the values to hide from all the programs that they are running on the virtual machine.

    I assume due to records, I changed, it confuses VM installer who it is not running on a Virtual Machine.  Then I tried to change all these registers changed to send it back to the original value, yet I is always the same message.

    I must be missing either some registry values or values that I restored is false. But I don't know which is the case.

    I can simply delete all my Virtual Machines and start again with the new virtual machine, but I don't want to repeat this process whenever a newer version of the VM tools out. and installation of windows and search and replace registry values for each virtual computer is full of works.

    You might want to look in the files here:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft Games\
    If you don't find anything, then maybe try to do a system restore.
    I don't know if it's something that will be reset with a system restore or not, but it might be interesting to try.

Is it possible to force the installer to work even if it is not the ABSOLUTE latest version? Otherwise, our users will not be just a version behind - they will continue to keep DOZENS of versions behind. I know that Adobe wants to force us to use the latest version of player safety, but in such a case the result is actually less of security.

    Any suggestions? Thanks for listening.

    Hi brandonLancaster,

    Rate of normal release of the flash player is both - per month, the second Tuesday of the month.  Out-of-band releases occur when there are challenges of high-risk security bug, which we had recently.  What seems to have happened, is that client machines have been updated to the latest version, while you try to put a version prior to these systems. We can check this by looking at the FlashInstall.log file on a client computer that returned this error.  The FlashInstall.log file is located in the following location:

    • 32-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    • 64-bit: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash AND C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

    You can send the contents of the file in your response, or download it by following the instructions that the specified item was not found. and after the URL in the files downloaded in your response.

    To avoid this scenario does not happen in the future, you disable the updates on the computers of your customers and then only deploy updates through your system of the EDSM.  To do this, you will need to deploy a custom file mms.cg with updates disabled for client systems.  The Flash Player Admin Guide examines various deployment strategies in Chapter 3.  Chapter 4 discusses managers features related to security, privacy, the use of disk space and so on, and the AutoUdpates section is on page 31.

    In addition, you can sign up to receive the Security Bulletin and the opinion here notice and Security Bulletins.  When a bulletin/notice is posted you would receive an email notification and can then go download the latest version, when it is validated and remove what to your client computers.

  • Trying to get ending entry into force for the groups of lines

    Hello world

    I searched the forums, but I can't find a post that is a problem quite like that.

    I have some data that looks like this:
            ID_NUM     EFFECTIVE ALLOC_PERCENT   ACCT
    ---------- --------- -------------   ----
           101 01-JUL-11            21   A1
           101 01-JUL-11            72   A2
           101 01-JUL-11             7   A3

           101 01-JUL-12            20   B1
           101 01-JUL-12            80   B2

           101 01-JAN-13            20   A1
           101 01-JAN-13            20   A2
           101 01-JAN-13            50   A3
           101 01-JAN-13            10   B1

           101 01-JUN-13            50   A1
           101 01-JUN-13            50   A2
    (note: I inserted manually empty lines for clarity)

    Here's the logic: the lines represent an assignment of percentage on the account for the identification number specified for this entry into force. A new date to cancel the previous, and if any line in the conceptual group is replaced, so they are all.

    I'll try to find the date when the effective period of each group ended and which includes in the game so that I can calculate then the number of days in a given line has been effective; something like that;
      ID_NUM     EFFECTIVE END_DATE   ALLOC_PERCENT ACCT
    ---------- --------- ---------- ------------- ----
           101 01-JUL-11 01-JUL-12             21 A1
           101 01-JUL-11 01-JUL-12             72 A2
           101 01-JUL-11 01-JUL-12              7 A3

           101 01-JUL-12 01-JAN-13             20 B1
           101 01-JUL-12 01-JAN-13             80 B2

           101 01-JAN-13 01-JUN-13             20 A1
           101 01-JAN-13 01-JUN-13             20 A2
           101 01-JAN-13 01-JUN-13             50 A3
           101 01-JAN-13 01-JUN-13             10 B1

           101 01-JUN-13 <null>                50 A1
           101 01-JUN-13 <null>                50 A2
    The end_date of the group is the EFFECTIVE_DATE of the next group (ordered by ID_NUM, EFFECTIVE_DATE).

    End_date of two rows is zero because there is no group of lines with an effective date the later - in my process, I'll NVL which sysdate so that my calculations of days will be valid.

    I tried some analytical queries with LEAD, but I couldn't figure out how to get the next date of the efficient group. I could get the entry into force of the next row, but not the next group. I couldn't specify how many lead lines to look forward, because there is not a number of rows in each group.

    How to fill the end_date column?

    Here's the code to create the above.
    create table t
    (id_num number,
     effective_date date,
     alloc_percent number,
     acct_code varchar2(4)
     );

    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jul-2011',21.0,'A1');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jul-2011',72.0,'A2');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jul-2011',7.0,'A3');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jul-2012',20.0,'B1');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jul-2012',80.0,'B2');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jan-2013',20.0,'A1');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jan-2013',20.0,'A2');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jan-2013',50.0,'A3');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jan-2013',10.0,'B1');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jun-2013',50.0,'A1');
    insert into t (id_num,Effective_date,alloc_percent,acct_code) values(101,'01-jun-2013',50.0,'A2');

    commit;

    select * from t;

    Hello

    Here is one more way to do using lead work.

    WITH ds as (id_num, effective_Date, lead (effective_date) select on end_date (id_num order, effective_Date))

    t

    Id_num group, effective_date)

    Select t.*, ds.end_date

    DS, t

    where t.effective_Date = ds.effective_Date;
