  • SYSTEM authorization to remove the desktop icons?

I just created a second user account on my laptop Win7 Home Premium. When I opened the new account first, there are the desktop icons for programs I don't want on the desktop (I do not want those who use the new account to easily access these programs). When I tried to move them to the trash, I got a notice that I need "authorization SYSTEM" to continue. Then, I changed the account to an administrator account to see if that would work. There can be no. I got the same message. How to remove these icons on the desktop?

    Thank you.

    Hi John,.

Please log in as administrator before you can remove the icon.

Log in as administrator. Once you are on the desktop screen, press Windows + R to open run.

Today, Type C:\Users\ access then the username folder that you want to change.

Open the Desktop folder and delete the icon you want.

  • How to remove a desktop icon?

Ok. So on my desktop (Windows XP Home Edition, VPR Matrix) and my laptop (Windows 8.1, ASUS X200CA) I'm having a problem removing an icon on the desktop... I don't want to send it to the trash or uninstall the program on my desktop, I added the Solitare icon by mistake and so I threw it in the trash, so when I clicked on it from the start menu, she appeared with an error message saying "Windows is looking for . You want to find yourself? "and two buttons saying 'Browse' and 'Cancel '. If I clicked on cancel, he would say "the file has probably been moved, renamed, or deleted." I don't want on my desk! I have, however, a widget of Roxio Drag-to-disc, and so what I do sometimes is I did drag the icon of Solitare behind the widget, but most of the time I move the widget. On my laptop, I accidentally added Microsoft Office by accident and I have no Office. How can I get it my office!

You can right click to remove, it's your computer, and you can do whatever you want :)

  • Is it safe to remove the desktop icons rest after a support session remotely Microsoft Tech Support?

    Hello everyone,

Some time back I had experienced problems with Windows Update continually advising me the KB2538242 was ready to be installed.  After a lot of hassle, I finally got help from Support staff technical Microsoft through 3 sessions of Assistance to solve the problem remotely.

At the end of the last session, there were several icons left on my desk. (A couple of the names associated with the icons are: desktop.ini & redistributable Microsoft Visual C++ MFC 2005).   Some are .exe files and some are presented as folders.

My question: is there a way to HIDE these icons so that they will be displayed on the desktop, without actually delete files / folders / applications, icons are associated with?

(I'd forgotten there is no way to attach a screenshot (jpeg file) from my office, so everyone could see the icons I want to talk).

Thanks for your time and any clarification on this subject!

    Pete C

I uninstalled a program and then tried to put the icon on the desktop to the trash.  I get an error message that says that the program cannot be found and try again.  How can I get rid of the icon?

    Hello

Reboot and see if the icon is still there. If so, try the following:

Go to control panel/Folder Options, view tab, set the options so that you can see the hidden files and folders and show protected operating system files. You should now be able to see a desktop desktop.ini file. Delete and restart. See if that helps.

You are right on the point that Windows 8 maintenance troubleshooting system check and remove broken, outdated and desktop icons not used your computer to make the functioning of your computer. Maintenance of Windows system sometimes automatically runs with your permission if it detects the system problems due to these out-of-date items on your computer. You can also schedule maintenance system to run and scan your computer at regular intervals.

  • Windows 7 64 bit, start slowing down, the desktop icons and taskbar of loading very slowly since last week!

so first, I'll start with my system features:

    Reference Dell Xps15z
    Intel Core i7 - 2640M to 2.8 ghz
    NVIDIA GT525M 2 GB
    8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 64-bit
    Samsung PM830 SSD 2.5 "7 GB 218, 42 GB of free
My laptop is now just a year and plays well outside some blue screen errors that have been fixed. The question now is time to start being significantly slower, especially the loading of the office. It takes 15 seconds to the password screen, to 45 seconds to reach the office and another 45 seconds to the taskbar, icons and things on the desktop to load. What is unusual is that during this black screen, my mouse is displayed, as well as for Advanced System Care 6 performance monitor (I doubt that this is the problem as I had installed for some time). I did the troubleshooting on mine and removed about half of my program without success. I also checked the health and performance of my SSD with SSD and SSD life and both seem to be very positive. I did not any changes to the Bios because I don't want to reinstall my OS and I'm not really sure on workarounds.
I tried also to the difficulty of the task of explorer.exe, by checking the value of shell in the registry and it is correct, that it just load slowly at the start and each time I kill and then open it again in the Task Manager. Therefore, I think that my main problem is with explorer.exe loading slowly for some reason, I also removed some desktop icons and taskbar, although I doubt that it makes much difference.
I've also done many scans with malware bytes pro and hitman pro, there is no virus on my computer.
I appreciate any help, as it is very inconvenient for my more than 90 seconds start time, when he was about 20 when the laptop was new.
Thank you very much for your help!
P.S. I have about 60 GB of games installed on my pc via steam, if it makes a difference to delete some

When my Windows 7 is slow to start, I do the following:

Start, then in the search box, type of race. In run, type "msconfig"(sans guillemets), and then click OK. ""
In the general tab, make sure that selective startup is selected.
Under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
Then go to the Startup tab and disable everything except software antivirus and important such as the microsoft. In addition, DO NOT disable any program that you do not recognize.
This will disable any unnecessary background programs and prevent to launch at startup.
NOTE: you can still start programs even if they do not start at startup. For example, your favorite game is one of them, and you the disabled. Now, the game does not start at startup, but if you click on the game icon later, it will always start, except maybe a bit slower when it starts. Basically, you are delaying the start of programmes which does not need to start at startup, you move a part of the start-up BACK period. The only programs that you do not disable is programs that actually need to start (like if it starts your computer will blow or something similar).
