How to remove a desktop icon?

Ok. So on my desktop (Windows XP Home Edition, VPR Matrix) and my laptop (Windows 8.1, ASUS X200CA) I'm having a problem removing an icon on the desktop... I don't want to send it to the trash or uninstall the program on my desktop, I added the Solitare icon by mistake and so I threw it in the trash, so when I clicked on it from the start menu, she appeared with an error message saying "Windows is looking for . You want to find yourself? "and two buttons saying 'Browse' and 'Cancel '. If I clicked on cancel, he would say "the file has probably been moved, renamed, or deleted." I don't want on my desk! I have, however, a widget of Roxio Drag-to-disc, and so what I do sometimes is I did drag the icon of Solitare behind the widget, but most of the time I move the widget. On my laptop, I accidentally added Microsoft Office by accident and I have no Office. How can I get it my office!

You can right click to remove, it's your computer, and you can do whatever you want :)

    Hello

Reboot and see if the icon is still there. If so, try the following:

Go to control panel/Folder Options, view tab, set the options so that you can see the hidden files and folders and show protected operating system files. You should now be able to see a desktop desktop.ini file. Delete and restart. See if that helps.

Although it is possible to remove the arrow, my recommendation is that
you are not doing this. The arrows are an important
function - provide quick visual identification of a shortcut. If you
remove the arrows, you run the risk of substantial that sooner or later
you delete something you want to keep, thinking that you were
just remove a shortcut. I let the arrows that they are.

    Ken Blake (MS-MVP)

According to me, there are situations that are valid for this.  I would like to remove the arrow from shortcuts on the desktop that I keep to certain folders.  I have file extensions on and do not keep the installers on the desktop, so I don't see the harm to remove the arrow of my shortcut 'Documents '.  I never think of Documents is actually stored on the desktop.  And if something, it only would make me more hesitant to delete a shortcut, no more likely to remove a real folder.  I plead to remove the arrow system, but it would be useful for specific desktop icons.  It's obviously the case, because Microsoft has decided to remove the arrow for "user files" folder is added through the control panel "Desktop Icon Settings".

  • SYSTEM authorization to remove the desktop icons?

I just created a second user account on my laptop Win7 Home Premium. When I opened the new account first, there are the desktop icons for programs I don't want on the desktop (I do not want those who use the new account to easily access these programs). When I tried to move them to the trash, I got a notice that I need "authorization SYSTEM" to continue. Then, I changed the account to an administrator account to see if that would work. There can be no. I got the same message. How to remove these icons on the desktop?

    Thank you.

    Hi John,.

Please log in as administrator before you can remove the icon.

Log in as administrator. Once you are on the desktop screen, press Windows + R to open run.

Today, Type C:\Users\ access then the username folder that you want to change.

Open the Desktop folder and delete the icon you want.

  • HP 15 Notebook PC TS: How to resize my desktop icons?

My desktop icons were the size that I liked.  Now, they are not.  No, I was not delivered to zero no matter what!  I really HATE the software that changes things without my permission.  How to restore to the size they were and their previous arrangement?  The indignant police them has not changed.  It's so much easier to set up things before Microsoft felt the need to make everything 'simpler', deciding for you what you should you want to.  Thank you.

    CatladyDane

What works for me is now pressed the Ctlr key and scrolling the mouse wheel.  Scroll to go the larger icons, the other way, smaller.

  • How to get a desktop icon to open enlarged using IE8?

OK, I'm back with the eternal question. How can I get an icon of Web site that is saved on my desktop to open in a maximized State? I'm using IE8 and Vista 64-bit. Internet Explorer window opens now enlarged very well, but all of the icons that I save on my desktop have no function enlarge when I right click the icon. All previous efforts such as you drag the image up, then close it while holding down the control key didn't work. I installed a third-party program, "Autosizer", which works fine until the last round of Windows updates. Now it has compatibility problems, so I had to uninstall this program. Microsoft has a fix yet? Help, please.
    Charles

    Charita142,

This procedure works perfectly for almost any version of Windows, including Windows 7. I just bought a computer with Windows 7 and had the same problem, but I set myself for this procedure. Here it is again. This should do it for you as long as long as you follow the steps correctly. Now all Windows IE to open come expanded no matter what I use to open them. I use the right-click of the links opening in a new window all the time and now they are all open. It is true of all the desktop icons that I do for Web pages as well as for all the shortcuts located in the taskbar. Everything works fine now. The funny part is that the solution to this problem is exactly the same as it was for XP or Vista. I think we just were we not followed the steps correctly, but in any case, here is the solution:

Open a Web page. Soft at full size. Do not use to maximize.
Choose any link on this Web page and right click > open in a new window.
Stretch this second window to the size desired-do not use maximize.
Close the first window of IE. Then close this second resized window.

This is exactly as it was in previous versions of Windows. It worked perfectly for me. Good luck with it.

  • How to lock the desktop icons in a multiple monitor configuration

Original title: lock the desktop icons - and display

Working with Windows 7 Home Premium has a problem processing 2 pieces: no matter how many times I said I want the display screen appears on the monitor, the screen of the computer, every day he arbitrarily returns to the computer screen only. That creates the 2nd problem: the desktop icons that I have arranged for the largest monitor rearrange themselves to adapt to the computer screen. Is there a way I can lock the icons in this position that I used to be able to do? Or is it possible that I can keep the display to go back to the computer screen? (I'm careful to apply the instructions to display before the specified seconds elapse).

    Hello

I suggest you to go through the steps mentioned in the link and the Coachman.

On a system running Microsoft Windows 7, the desktop icons can be moved to positions at random during another monitor main screen.
