  Windows Vista Ultimate allows me to send files to a compressed folder.  I read several answers elsewhere that you can then open the folder and select "File--> Add a password...". "to add a password.  However, I can't find it.

  The ability to natively password - protect a zipped file was removed from Vista and Windows 7.

  Thanks for your reply... but from your response, it seems that the hard drive is not out of the box... There is some level of protection... What are according to you can be easily bypassed... I have the Internet was something like gains possession of the disc or something like that... I just wanted to confirm if this was the case... or is that by plugging the hard drive via a USB external box, the files are directly accessible.

  No, however you can view their records. (Start > computer > C: > users >child>all their files and links)

  You can also clear a password. (Start > Control Panel > accounts of users and the family safety > user accounts > manage another account >child account> remove the password)

  No there is no work around.  You can always search metadata, as if you have a file that I made which was protected, you can still find it by searching for author: shawn, but you would not be able to search inside of the file.

  1. press Windows + R key on your keyboard.

  2. Enter the following command and press ENTER:

  netplwiz

  3 click your account name.

  4. uncheck the box that requires users to enter a password.

  5. click on OK.

  6. Enter your password when you are prompted, and then click OK.

  I'm no stranger to permissions etc as I work in it, but it confused me after 4 hours of messing around.

  I'm trying to make sure that when I share a file on my home network that windows requires a password in order to access what it is not doing.

  The following conditions are true for both machines:

  Are windows 7 Home premium

  Have file sharing enabled on each respective network adapter

  Are members of the home network

  Are both on the network, called "WORKING group".

  Assistant file sharing was turned on and off then to make sure it wasn't an influence, it is currently off as he auto-actions the user root folder.

  3. create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel
  VALUE: 1
  4 reboot your PC and try again to establish the connection.

  I think I've cracked the question:

  I created a new account admin on my PC and the first time I tried to access anything, I got the password. I don't have it a second time.

  I then removed and put in the passwords and then disconnected cache and back in and asked again the password.

  I tried the same thing on my other account, but it has not yet requested.

  It turns out that even on another computer, if you have the same username and password that it automatically authorizes for good once you enter the network password first.

  With player application you can not remove the protection.

  However, you can perform using Acrobat application.

  Remove password security

  You can remove security from an open PDF if you have the permissions to do so. If the PDF is secured with a security policy based on server, only the author of policy or a server administrator can change.

  Open the PDF file, and then click Tools > Protect > Encrypt > remove security.

  Your options vary depending on the type of password security attached to the document:

  If the document contains only a Document open password, click OK to delete the document.

  If the document contains a permissions password, type it in the box, enter the password, and then click OK. Click OK again to confirm the action.

  I've set up a test page on my own website - password - test.html, downloaded from my site from Adobe Muse via FTP again and then the password file test.html in a folder called password.

  First, I tried the following:

  Note: I put the .htpasswd file (it's encrypted) in the root public_html not for 2 reasons:

  1) the author says he's more sure.

  None are to some extent .htaccess and such things. I'm afraid you have a fundamental misunderstanding here. The simple answer is that what you want can be done with HTML simply and no access to the back-end server. What you have is simply a set of rules for the file and access to records, but without real authentication or encryption. Seriously, you need to consider using a dynamic interface.
