Remove the device accidentally added to the data store?

Hello

I just accidentally added a device/disk to my single datastore.

How can I remove this disc again?

VMware ESXi 5.1

have you added new drive to the existing data as a store?

It is not possible to remove a scope of an existing data store.

See below KB for possible ways to remove the disc added as a measure.

    Gerry,

    Is it possible that your virtual machine contains a cd connected to the data store? I came across that once where a virtual machine was showing that the use of two data warehouses, but there files were only in one. I found that I had connected the reader of cd/dvd via the client to a file that was in this other data store. Just a thought.

  • Cannot remove the data store in esxi 3.5 - can help you

    OK - I have a problem. I messed up and now I'm stuck.

    I was "apparently" in the middle of a converter working, and I deleted the comments of esxi3.5, while the converter still worked.

    I selected the rafale and made a removal of the disc that worked, however the structure of associated file (windows 2000 Server) for this guest has not been deleted, so I chose my data store (datastore1) and - do you have a store of navigation data and when I try to delete the folder associated with the guest, I deleted I get the following error :

    "General failure caused by file" (with a "/" on the next line) and all I can do at this point is to click OK box to acknowledge the error and I can't delete the folder. I can't rename it either.

    I don't know how to get rid of it. I tried to create a new client with the same name as the folder and delete the comments again, but that does not work either.

    I'm really stuck - I'm afraid to go into maintenance mode because I have no idea what I'm going to be confronted here since I never used the maintenance mode.

    any help or ideas would be really appreciated.

    You can try to do a refresh of the data store. The folder structure is not re read very often. In the data store Navigator, click the folder root on the left side and click on the Refresh button.

  • Possible to remove the data store shared without deleting content?

    Is it possible to delete a data store shared a host, without actually deleting content?

    If there are several hosts who share a store of data and for some reason any I delete the data of one of them, store connection can I do this without a deletion of all the virtual machines on the data store, as shown in the warning above?

    You can delete single LUN on the side storage (for example by hiding the it).

    Before that... do not forget that without virtual machines are running on it.

    After that... do a rescan storage adapters.

  • alleged connection to the data store local preventing vmotion

    I have a VM that signals a connection to the local data store on its host, and therefore can't do vMotion elsewhere.  The virtual machine has two virtual drives, which are both on a SAN storage.  The virtual machine has been previously connected to an ISO on the local data store, but it has since been replaced by client device.  He always insists that he's using something on this data store, however.  I've looked through the vmx file and don't see any reference to it.  I also tried to remove the data store, but he claims that the file system is in use.  The hosts have been recently updated to esxi 6.0 U2, and it's the only VM that now seems this behavior.  Any suggestions on what could be the cause?  It is a server important enough in this environment, and be locked into a single host makes me a little anxious.

    Turns out it was because of an old cliché.  If you get an ISO from a data store and take a snapshot, the virtual machine will keep a link to that store of data even after changing the client machine.  As soon as you delete the snapshot, this relationship goes, and access to this database is therefore more a review when searching valid hosts.

  • Migration of virtual machines from a data store, and then delete the data store?

    Hello

    I have a future deployment this month and my Director wants to build a new RAID 6 array, create a store of data with the new table and then move all the VMS to the newly created data store.

    Then he asked me to take the old data store and remove it and the available space between the deleted data store and other stores of data in our shared environment. The question is when the new raid is created and vm has migrated to the new data store, which is the best way to remove the data store empty and make sure that the space available for other data stores? Any help would be appreciated...

    Greg ~.

    If all controls are met, you can go ahead and take it apart without any problem.

    I have re-iterate below checks:

    -No virtual machine is in the data store

    -The data store is not part of the cluster data store

    -The data store is not managed by the DRS storage

    -IGCS is disabled for this data store

    -The data store is not used for vSphere HA heartbeat.

    Especially highlighted 2 controls. Please note that SIOC can be enabled on the data without SDR photo store

  • Swapping hard drives for change/increase the size of the data store

    Hello:

    I have an ESXi host 4.1 with 2x146GB RAID1 array (datastore1), 4x300GB RAID5 array (datastore2).  I need more space so I intend to replace 2x146GB by 2x2TB.  I'll first move virtual machines from datastore1 to datastore2, then stop the machine, Exchange records and build the new table.

    • What I need to remove ESXi cfg datastore1. before you physically remove the drives, or will start ESXi gracefully and allow me to remove the data store?
    • I'll be able to add the new data store (2x2TB) to ESXi, ago, i.e. ESXi should see table once initialized on the machine?
    • Existing data warehouses have 1 MB block size max vmdk is 256GB.  I want the new data store to have the block size of 8MB so I can have more VMDK.  I think I can fix the block size of data store when it was created, are, i.e. the ESXi installation can have warehouses of data with different block sizes, are?

    Thanks a lot for the ideas you have!

    1.) why not just delete the GUI data store before you remove the discs?

    2.) If your controller has the disks properly there should be no problem with their detection.

    3.) Yes, each data store may have a different block size. The block size can be selected when creating the data store on disk/LUN.

  • How remove the date and time in image logging vision express

    I use express vision to capture a set number of images with the inline processing. I am opting to save images to a specified folder. However, the file names of the images have the date and time added by default. Is there a way to remove the date and time in the image file name? Help, please.

    Thank you very much. This has been useful. However I found another book about - I renamed it (using the movement vi) slam post files. Still, I would be interested if anyone has a better way to do it.

  • Reconnect the data store after removal of hard disk

    I have two identical Dell R610 servers.  I removed the readers of one of the servers and put them in the other.  ESX came very well and I can connect to the host with the vSphere client.  However, the data store has disappeared and 4 virtual machines that were on the server are "(inaccessible) unknown".  The device comes in storage.  It's a simple, 4 drive RAID5 set connected to the local controller inside the server.

    What can I do to reattach the data store?

    I tried both 'Keep the existing signature' and 'assign a new signature.  Both options produce the same result ' selected disk already Dad a VMFS datastore. ".  Select another disk.

    The data store is obviously there and intact.

    Sounds like the issue in the store of data missing and not mountable. You can also take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1015986 to see if that helps.

  • Find files on the data store that have been removed from inventory, but not deleted from the disk

    I have ESXi 4.1 and with vSphere Client to manage virtual machines.

    Some of my users continue to use the 'remove from inventory"rather than the option" remove disc "in vSphere when they want to delete the virtual machine.

    This leaves the computer virtual on the data store but not used. I have since removed this privilege among the offending users but I need to do a bit of cleaning.

    I have a lot of files on the data store where users have done this in recent years. Probably about 150 records but only 80 VM listed in the inventory.

    Is there a way I can output, a report showing the data of each machine store directory in inventory so that I can remove anything not on this list? ID rather not to manually check the parameters of all 80 VM in the inventory.

    Out ideal would be something like:

    MyVmNameHere 1, \MyVmDirectoryHere1\ [DataStore1]

    MyVmNameHere2, \MyVmDirectoryHere2\ [DataStore1]

    A great tool to discover all this and much more is RVTools

    Look at the code in this post: receive information from scsi to a data store if the data store is known

    I used that as a starting point for the following... I put this code in a script task and passed in a VC:HostSystem object named "wfHostObject":

    for each (var lun in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.storageDeviceInfo.multipathInfo.lun) {
        for each (var path in lun.path) {
            if (path.state == "active") {
                // Get the mountinfo
                for each (var mount in wfHostObject.configManager.storageSystem.fileSystemVolumeInfo.mountInfo) {
                    if (mount.volume.hasOwnProperty("extent")) {
                        for each (var extent in mount.volume.extent) {
                            var tmp = extent.diskName.split(/\./);
                            var regExp = new RegExp(tmp[1],'gi');
                            if (lun.id.match(regExp)) {
                                System.debug("=========== Mount Name: "+mount.volume.name);
      System.debug("Type: "+mount.volume.type);

  • Remove the data of the data cluster store store

    I'm trying to disassemble a data store that is part of a cluster of data store.  Needless to say that the system does not just let go without me to jump through a bunch of hoops first.  Anyone can point me to documentation that describes the steps that I need to go by?

    No virtual machine is in the data store - it's good, that there are no virtual machines on the data store

    The data store is not part of a group of data store - I want to remove from the cluster.  How do I do that?

    The datatstore is not managed by the DRS storage - I figured this out.  I temporarily disabled DRS on the cluster storage.

    Storage i/o control is disabled for this data store - how can I do this?

    The data store is not used to the pulsations of vSphere HA - how can I turn off / suspend the heartbeat?

    Thanks in advance.

    You can remove the cluster data store by dragging in your data center through the vSphere client.

    You can disable IGCS through a host in the configuration-> storage tab.

    You can disable HA heartbeat by disabling HA on your cluster hosts. Usually when you receive this warning, it means that the data store is always used by something. Try first the first 2 options and then try to remove before disabling HA on your cluster.

    This should fix the problem on removing.

  • What best practices to remove a host server data store without emptying the contents of the data store

    Hi all

    This question was probably asked a million times. the best practice to remove a host server data store without emptying the contents of the data store?

    I have two clusters and I moved host group A to group B. host A is now to see data from Cluster Both A store and Group B datastore. We want that host A to store data in Cluster B. The Cluster a data store is not and can not be empty coz VM A Cluster using data warehouses. So I just unpreset the data LUN to host A store and Reanalyze the data store? Or there is a better way to do it?

    Thank you all

    Yes that's what I meant - should have specified where virtual machines are running.

  • Problem adding disks to the data store

    I currently have a data store RAID 5 consisting of four discs of 250gig. I bought two identical drives more and am trying to extend the data store.

    I have a HP Proliant ML350 G6. I plugged the two new drives, add them in the raid array and now get this error in esxi:

    Volme 1 on HPSA1 logic: RAID 5: 698 GB disk 1,2,3,4,5,6: currently in expansion

    I thought it was a normal phenomenon since I am expanding the raid, but I don't think it would take more than a few minutes. He had this attention for at least four hours now. I did something wrong? I'm trying to expand this data store for the two new drives in the raid to enlarge.

    I've attached a screenshot of the warning.

    The virtual machine has a snapshot. In order to increase the size of the virtual drive, remove the snapshot by using the Snapshot Manager. As long as there is a snapshot virtual disk, that they can not be changed.
