  • Windows Defender won't let me to open the startup programs

Hello, I have a Vista ultimate on my computer. I use Norton Security. I want to delete some startup programs. Go to the Control Panel, clicking Startup Programs - Windows Open saying that Windows Defender is disabled... I click on the link to activate on - nothing happens.   If I go to the computer - manage-Windows defender - turn on the green line starts to load, then says: "Windows Defender stopped... because it will be not necessary" or sth. Like this. Looks like I have this problem after installing Norton. There are options to disable firewall and Antivirus-if I use them that nothing changes. Any suggestions?

  • Y at - it a keyboard shortcut to use at startup to avoid loading the startup programs?

For Windows XP I could use the SHIFT key while windows loaded to avoid the start up programs in the startup folder. This does not work for Vista. Is there one similar solution other that changing the msconfig?

    Hi tibor-s,

Welcome to Windows Vista answers Forums!

If you try to disable the startup program, then follow the below mentioned steps to disable startup programs:

You can improve your computer's performance by preventing unnecessary programs from running automatically when Windows starts. Here's how:

1 open Windows Defender, click onthe Start button, by clicking on all programs, and then clicking on Windows Defender.

2 click on the button tools, then click Software Explorer.

3 in the area categoryclick on startup programs.

4 Select the program that you want to prevent the executionof, , and click on Disable.

5 click on Yes to confirm that you want to stop this program from running.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each program you want to stop to run.

After opening windows computer HP 7 is loaded and can run for 2-3 minutes then the computer hangs and goes to the startup program. However, in safe mode, it remains open without any problems. Recently, the only problem I've had is that the MSN server is not running and has been replaced by BABYLON, who refuses to uninstall itself. I system restored to all the possible dates and problem remains. Can anyone help please

  • Where are the startup programs that do not appear in the location listed?

I have a program (called Wondershare) I thought I had uninstalled later. I was mopping up my start today and noticed Wondershare programs on the list of processes. I thought it was weird, so I looked at the command and followed by the location of the file to the location he listed but cannot find the folder, in what he says he is?

Location it lists is C:\Program Files (x 86)-common Files\Wondershare\Wondershare Helper Compact... but in my folder common files, it does list no this folder under the name "Wondershare", and a search reveals nothing either?

So where is this program Wondershare hid? And why it shows the path of incorrect file on my list of startup programs? And how do I remove it from the list of startup programs? (not turn it off, remove it from the list).

Everything you see in the msconfig Startup tab can be found in the registry.

Currently enabled elements (those with the box) can be found in one of two places.

There is a section for the local COMPUTER, and there is a section for the currently connected USER.

Startup items that apply to the local computer can be found here:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

Startup items that apply to the currently logged-in user can be found here:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

You can specify which section of the registry the required are looking at the column location in msconfig.

Startup enabled items will start with HKLM or HKCU (look at your example).

So if I wanted to remove the entry currently enabled for an HP printer owned by the current USER (HKCU) I would do this in the Registry Editor:

Since there is no cancellation or exit without saving the changes in Registry Editor, you should consider how you want to undo the changes if you make a mistake, and your system is working badly or not to initialize the next time it is restarted.

Before registry settings to do this:

Create a manual system restore point.

Consider the backup of your registry with this free and popular tool:

  • Reinstall Windows XP without removing the entire program

PC was loaned to my daughter, went back and see that many programs are gone, can I reinstall WinXP on remaining programs?

try to put on the original cd and choose repair xp should put this back to normal. If it does not put the cd in the cd rom stops when the computer starts it upward and then it will give you the ability to boot from the cd when it does that it will get to a point and ask what format you want to use it will be 4 options
    NTFS format (quick)
    FAT format (quick)
    NTFS format
    big format

Choose the ntfs and it will go faster it will totally wipe the computer and reinstall all the original programs
But anyway I have never been able to use a recovery cd sucessfully that my opinion is copy all the necessary files so that your daughter needs a USB or zip drive what ever you call them and boot from the cd

  • How do I see the startup programs

My Active Protection does not work, and I'm unable to check the box to activate it. I had Avira antivirus free but now purchased Avira Suites so I know that I don't have 2 running virus protection. How can I see my start up programs for change because I maybe too?

See Shawn Keene answer and I would add the following:

There is no such thing as "too much of" startup programs. How much you have is irrelevant to your performance. What * is * relevant * that * you have automatic start of programs. Some can hurt your performance, others may have no effect.

  • How can I remove the startup password on my PC.

Two PCs an Ethernet and a WiFi network 8.1 of Windows and IE 11 times home page.

A few months set up account MSN (?) and I now have to connect to my WiFi PC at startup.

Downloaded an app on the PC (second) Ethernet last week and had to sign to download the app.

Now, this second PC starts with the sign on the screen.

I want to remove the sign of starting in the procedure on both computers.

In my view, that there are some conflicts between the two PC.
