Remove the VMs of SRM

Hello

I'm new to SRM and we have received a request from server that is taken out of service and you may have to remove SRM. Can someone let me know how to remove virtual machines to SRM step by step. What is the process to remove the virtual machines of the SRM. ? We need to remove the protection group VMs? or anything else, we need to do. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you

vmk2014

Hello

Connect to your vcenter

Back to home

Under Solutions and applications choose Site Recovery

Then click Protection groups

Locate the protection group

Under the gaze of tab in virtual machine to the virtual machine

Then right click on the VM and 'delete Protection '.

Once these steps are a Storage vMotion to reinstall the virtual machine on a data store that is not in the MRS.

Kind regards

  • Manual removal placeholder VMs when the protected virtual machine is removed

We run SRM 5.5. We had some VMs protected, we need more, so they have been removed from the drive (I can't). When I found out about it, I went in SRM and removed the protection for these deleted virtual machines. Most of the VMS placeholder have been correctly removed by this procedure, however, I see still 2 VMs of space reserved for virtual computers that no longer exist. No idea why only these 2 (about 6) were not cleaned.

My question: can I remove manually just these VMs placeholder? They are not in any group of protection, or the stimulus plan. And the protected virtual machines which correspond to these placeholders no longer exist. It's as if they are zombie placeholders. :-)

There is no problem with me removing the VMs placeholder manually, y at - it?

    Hello

Yes, its safe to delete the place holder vm.  Make sure the source VM is not protected and no replication is configured. Restart the SRM service.

  • Clarification on the protection of the VMS with snapshots. SRM 5.1

In SRM 5.1 documentation one of the limitations listed is:

When the protection of the VMS with snapshots of the memory state, the ESXi hosts on protection and restoration sites must have compatible processors as defined in the articles of the VMware knowledge base CPU VMotion for Intel processors compatibility requirements and CPU VMotion for AMD compatibility requirements. Guests must also have the same characteristics of active BIOS. If the BIOS of the server configurations do not match, they show a compatibility error message, even if otherwise, they are identical. The two most common to check features are the No-Execute memory Protection (NX / XD) and virtualization technology (VT / AMD - V).

You can work around this limitation by using the mode of the VCA on groups the and protected?

VCA mode will mitigate this risk, but you must make sure that the two Clusters to the protégé and recovery Sites are at the SAME level CVS before take snapshots of the memory.

At the end of the day, only a "planned actual Migration" will verify this.

    Good luck!

  • remove the ports series and parallel

    Hello

I wonder what that "sport erial and parallel can then be removed" in all these articles on the new vSphere 6 functions is all about. I couldn't remove these VMs ports before, couldn't I? Nobody seems to get into the details, everyone just copies / repeat the same thing on the other.

    Best regards

    Jan

Versions previous hardware could always hardware ports series and parallel within the virtual of the motherboard SuperIO chip, even when there are no virtual serial ports or virtual parallel ports configured for the virtual machine - quietly ports would be "present but disconnected", so they would use more space i/o and IRQ, and always appear to be present in the list of devices in your guest OS IRQ and I/O port map.

With the latest version of the material, if you delete the port virtual series and virtual parallel port, they will be missing... the guest OS won't see all the device, and it consumes no space port of IO and no IRQ.

    I hope this helps!

  • Archiving the VMs downgraded as OVF/EGGS

I have a client who stops at a data center.  I was able to turn off 50% of the virtual machines on this site.  These virtual machines are no longer used, but the company has a keep everything political.  Looking for a good solution archive off VMs out of the vSphere environment.

I wanted to remove the virtual machines to vSphere using the minimum possible space.  Export the VM on and/or using third party copy options gave me the same result - DISCS THICK.  Try a different approach, I started to convert the VMs downgraded to OVF and EGG files. It seems that give me THIN discs, no memory and no swap file.  Once I have the files like OVF/EGGS, I'm moving the files to our extended slow memory.  After some time (to be determined), it will be transfer to storage offline in the long term.

Looking for other solutions or improvements to that that I have just listed.

On a side note: I'm surprised that VMware doesn't have a tool or an option for archiving virtual machines.  Veeam and CommVault have some tools and methods... That's all. I'd rather not get locked in a product to archive a downgraded VM.

    Thank you

This has been read enough that I'll post my own solution.

For the client, I decided to convert all the virtual machines that have been archived in single files OVA.  Once completed, the entire library of virtual machines have been moved to large slow storage.  After about 90 days of unavailability files will be moved to the Archives of band and put away.  It save a lot of space in all locations.  It also allows us the opportunity to redeploy VMS if necessary on all platforms the customer assistance may be in the future.

  • Removal of VMs - best practices?

    Hello

I'm confused on exactly how a virtual machine must be removed.

Most of the time, it works fine:

    Get - vm red_tunic | Stop-vm-confirm: $false - erroraction SilentlyContinue | Remove-vm - deletepermanently - runasync - confirm: $false

However, if 'red_tunic' is a snapshot, it may not actually remove.  But don't remove after removing the snapshot:

    Get - vm red_tunic | Get-snapshot | Remove-snapshot - confirm: $false

This is expected behavior? Not "remove-vm" should also remove snapshots?

    My powerCLI version is:

  • Remove the ' system VLAN "Nexus 1000V port-profile

We have a Dell M1000e blade chassis with a number of Server Blade M605 ESXi 5.0 using the Nexus 1000V for networking.  We use 10 G Ethernet fabric B and C, for a total of 4 10 cards per server.  We do not use the NIC 1 G on A fabric.  We currently use a NIC of B and C fabrics for the traffic of the virtual machine and the other card NETWORK in each fabric for traffic management/vMotion/iSCSI VM.  We currently use iSCSI EqualLogic PS6010 arrays and have two configuration of port-groups with iSCSI connections (a physical NIC vmnic3 and a vmnic5 of NIC physical).

We have added a unified EMC VNX 5300 table at our facility and we have configured three VLANs extra on our network - two for iSCSI and other for NFS configuration.  We've added added vEthernet port-profiles for the VLAN of new three, but when we added the new vmk # ports on some of the ESXi servers, they couldn't ping anything.   We got a deal of TAC with Cisco and it was determined that only a single port group with iSCSI connections can be bound to a physical uplink both.

We decided that we would temporarily add the VLAN again to the list of VLANS allowed on the ports of trunk of physical switch currently only used for the traffic of the VM. We need to delete the new VLAN port ethernet-profile current but facing a problem.

The Nexus 1000V current profile port that must be changed is:

The DenverMgmtSanUplinks type ethernet port profile

We must remove the list ' system vlan "vlan 2313-2315 in order to remove them from the list" trunk switchport allowed vlan.

However, when we try to do, we get an error about the port-profile is currently in use:

    vsm21a # conf t

Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.

vsm21a (config) #-port ethernet type DenverMgmtSanUplinks profile

    102 interface resets

We can probably remove the port-channel 2, but assumed that the error message on the port-profile in use is cascading on the other channel ports.  We can delete the other port-channel 4,6,8,10 orphans and 12 as they are associated with the orphan VEM, but we expect wil then also get errors on the channels of port 13,15,17,19,21 and 23 who are associated with the MEC assets.

We are looking to see if there is an easy way to fix this on the MSM, or if we need to break one of the rising physical on each server, connect to a vSS or vDS and migrate all off us so the Nexus 1000V vmkernel ports can clean number VLAN.

You will not be able to remove the VLAN from the system until nothing by using this port-profile. We are very protective of any vlan that is designated on the system command line vlan.

You must clean the canals of old port and the old MEC. You can safely do 'no port-channel int' and "no vem" on devices which are no longer used.

What you can do is to create a new port to link rising profile with the settings you want. Then invert the interfaces in the new port-profile. It is generally easier to create a new one then to attempt to clean and the old port-profile with control panel vlan.

I would like to make the following steps.

Create a new port-profile with the settings you want to

Put the host in if possible maintenance mode

Pick a network of former N1Kv eth port-profile card

Add the network adapter in the new N1Kv eth port-profile

Pull on the second NIC on the old port-profile of eth

Add the second network card in the new port-profile

You will get some duplicated packages, error messages, but it should work.

The other option is to remove the N1Kv host and add it by using the new profile port eth.

Another option is to leave it. Unless it's really bother you no VMs will be able to use these ports-profile unless you create a port veth profile on this VLAN.

  • How to remove the local drive of the storage profile

I use 5.1.1 with last vcenter vcloud. My problem is that my profile of single storage includes local disk. (when I click on * all properties in vcloud)

I went to vsphere client to vcenter (Home > inventory > data warehouses and the cluster data store) I see ESXi local disk. is there a way to delete it without deleting the content of the discs? the vcloud vms will go to local disk? concern is not shared between hosts. Thank you

You create profiles of storage for data storage you want to use.

    First, assign user-defined storage capacities:

    1. Home-> inventory-> data and data Clusters store warehouses
    2. R.Click the data store you want to use-> Assign User-Defined storage capacities
    3. Click new... and set a name and a Description
    4. Repeat for all warehouses of data to include in the PVDC

Second, to create profiles of VM storage

    1. Home-> management-> VM storage profiles
    2. Create a VM storage profile
    3. Name and assign storage capacities of the list defined by the user that you created
    4. IMPORTANT: Select the VM storage profile (buttons at the top of the window)

    Third, VCD storage profiles update

    1. Manage and control-> them vCenters
    2. r.Click vCenter and refresh the storage profiles (may take a few minutes)

    Fourth, edit PVDC

    1. Manage and monitor--> provider TDC-> open your PVDC
    2. Storage Profiles tab
    3. Add new profile storage
    4. Remove the * any storage profile (disable and then delete r.click)
  • Only VC currently - planning the implementation of SRM

Hi all, I read the page sup-100 (planned for a plu guide?), Administrator's Guide as well as the of the evaluator and guide "Notice."

I did not see anything in the official docs/pdf files that address the apparently common scenario in which a given customer is responsible for the implementation of SRM, and said customer has always (so far) an implementation of simple-VirtualCenter in which there are 2 or more virtual datacenters (and their hosts/clusters) extending over 2 or more physical sites/locations.  What IS very clear documentation, that is, before the SRM being installed, the customer must have the following in place: 2 VirtualCenters (and their databases), 2 license servers (and their respective records of LIC) and 2 servers RS (and their data).

So I draw some negative findings/conclusions and would appreciate confirmation because it is uncharted territory for me and we have been a store VC 'single' since the time of ESX 2.5:

    1. I need to 'split' my world to a single VirtualCenter that handles all my guests/clusters and all my virtual machines.

    2. I need to divide my license file in 2 low-income instead of the unique ICA is now.  (I already bought all the necessary licenses, I will need, including a 2nd license VC, and SRM licenses for each cpu on the host computers that will be 'protected')

    3. I inform my fellow admins (I'm in charge of welfare of ESX in my company) that hosts 'Site A' and the vm and the clusters will be managed by pointing to the current instance of the VC, whereas 'Site B' vm and clusters, etc., that were PREVIOUSLY managed on Site is now managed the new instance 'Site B' VC...

How go on this redistribution/splitting of the implementations of VC and the files license and databases is entirely mine.  Is that hard to understand, but it needs to be done, regardless, before the installation of SRM.  Site A VC will handle everything in Site A and VC of the Site B will handle everything in period of Site b...

Thank you all... and if there is anything in any docs related to the foregoing (in which the user Bob must transition from a simple VC 2 VCs), sorry I missed it-please advise.

Your assumptions are correct, you will need to have two virtual centres as well as two licenses, servers, databases, VC and SRM SRM and don't forget 2 without for the storages of replicated data. If you think about it, it makes sense, since the purpose of SRM is DR having 2 of all eliominates a single point of failure.  Now regarding how to split the VC isngle two - I know not all guide, but it's going to be a manual process to remove guests from the VC original he and adding them to the new VC in the Dr site
