Remove the windows XPSP3 Powershell

I tried to install powereshell to solve a problem. The installation appeared to stall. When I tried to uninstall pwershell in Add/Remove Programs, a dialog box told me removal could affect virtually all programs on the computer. I'm afraid to continue.

Hello

·        Do you have an error message during the installation of Powershell stalls on the system?

Uninstall Powershell only may affect the computer unless there is related programs.

You can uninstall the Powershell on the system and check out them. Follow the steps mentioned in the article given below in the section (how to uninstall Windows PowerShell).

I suggest you to do a system restore to the point before you attempted to install the Powershell on the system.

  • Can I safely remove the Windows.old files?

What's up guys?, I have a Compaq Presario supplied with the Windows Vista operating system, 32-bit. I backed up all my drivers on DVD and I downloaded a clean copy of Vista using an ISO on a DVD burner. I reinstalled the new copy put in my original product key, and he agreed. I reinstalled my drivers and all seems to work fine. I transferred all my data, mp3, jpeg, etc. for Flash readers and/or new programs on the new OS. The reason for the new OS was a virus infection which partially damaged the registry.  I really want to keep these files in the system for obvious reasons. Can I safely delete the files "Windows.old" and what would be the best way to do it?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community Forums.

No need to worry, we're here to help you and guide you in the right direction.

The windows.old folder is the old system files. Be sure to copy all the files that you can out of the Windows.old folder before you delete it. Once deleted, they are gone. You must be logged in as an administrator to be able to do the steps.

The Windows.old folder contains the following folders:

    • Windows
    • "Documents and Settings".
    • "Program Files."

The Windows folder stores mainly programs and files that are required to run the previous version of Windows.

The "Documents and Settings" folder stores mainly the 'My Documents' folder and the Favorites folder. In addition, the "Documents and Settings" folder stores the office files that have been used by the previous version of Windows.

The "Program Files" folder stores mainly programs have been installed on the earlier version of Windows.

There are two ways to delete the windows.old folder. Here is the simple step.

Method 1: Delete the C drive.

    (a) open Windows Explorer, click computer.

    (b) select C drive and you will find the Windows.old folder.

    (c) make a right click on the folder and click Remove.

Method 2: Remove the "Windows.old" folder using disk cleanup

    (a) open Disk Cleanup by clicking on the button Windows + C to open the bar of charms. Click on the charm of the Search .

    (b) type cleanmgr in Search Applications box in the right pane, and then click cleanmgr.exe (disk cleanup) in the left pane to open it.

    (c) If you are prompted to choose a drive, click the drive that you have just installed Windows on and then click OK.

    (d) in the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, click clean up system files.

    (e) If you are again prompted to choose a drive, click the drive that you have just installed Windows on and then click OK.

    (f) select the Previous Windows installations check box and the other check boxes for files that you want to remove, and then click OK.

    (g) in the message that appears, click delete files.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need help, I'll be more than happy to help you.

  • Why Windows 8 allow me to remove the Windows.old folder?

I upgraded my computer to Windows 7 to Windows 8, a few months ago, when Windows 8 came. It is my understanding that when you perform an upgrade of Windows from one version to the other, it can save a lot of files and folders under the folder Windows.old. And I understand that you can delete the Windows.old folder.

In other words, I don't think.

The reason why I do not think it is because whenever I tried to delete Windows.old, it stops for me with this error:

And when I said to 'Try Again' he begins from the beginning? HE DOES ALL THIS TIME! This should not do this, as I did do procedure on other machines that I've updated and he's NEVER done that, but not on this machine? Why in hell does?

    Hi Rod

You must use the disk cleanup utility to remove the Windows.old folder. See the following article for step by step instructions.

    2. how to identify the critcal programs in my program add/REMOVE I do not use that will not affect the operation of my PC?

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:

NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

    Hello

The best way is to clean install and start over.

In addition, it is not legal to have both installed version that the license is for a single installation.

If it is a dual boot with 32 bit and 64 bit installed on different partitions, there would not have been the conflicts you would have never started in one or the other.

    See you soon.

  • How to remove the windows vista backup

I have 2 drives, C: (69.2 GB) all system files. D: (65.7 GB) a backup & my data. I want to install a new s/w of 12 GB in D:, but its low memory(10.5MB) showing. I tried to delete the backup, but his does not work. I tried diskcleanup, but still the same problem persists. I checked, there isn't any extra file to D:. It's just because of the backup. Can someone please tell me, how to remove the full backup.

    Hi kisna234567,

    ·         You get the error message?

The main objective of the Windows backup and Restore Center is to save the data either automatically in according to the schedule or manually when you want to save data. It is not designed to replace the old data with the new data. Just backup and Restore Center totals with new data every time, and would not remove the old files.

You can backup the old files and folders to storage device as the external hard drive, CD, DVD, USB flash drives and removes the backup files of the computer. You can format the backup partition.

    Caution:

    ·         Formatting a volume will destroy all data on the partition. Be sure to make backups of all the data to save before you begin.

    ·         You cannot format a disk or partition that is currently in use, including the partition that contains Windows.

    ·         Quick format is a formatting option that creates a new file table, but do not completely overwrite or erase the volume. A quick format is much faster than a normal format, which fully erases the existing data on the volume.

    Follow these steps:

    (a) open computer management by clicking the Start button, select Control Panel, click system and Maintenance, click Administrative Toolsand then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (b) in the Navigation pane, under storage, click disk management.

    (c) right click on the volume that you want to format, and then click format.

    (d) to format the volume with the default settings, in the format dialog box, click OK, and then click OK again.

For reference: create and format a hard disk partition.
