Replication of VSphere marked as non-active

Dear all,

I configured the SRM connection between two sites. I have them paired with success and set up the connection to VR.

Problem is when I put a replication for certain one VM, once the wizard is finished, vsphere replication monitor displays status - not Active. The events and tasks of the VM, I found the following warning:

No connection to the server of VR: do not answer

I am able to ping/telnet port 80 two of these machines of this virtual machine replication.

Could you please help me solve this problem.

Thank you

Aleksandar Aleksandrov

Hi again,

OK, here's the problem.

Basically when pair you it with DR site both VR servers are to exchange information between them for example VRS server target. So in this case you end up with the following situation:

(1) VRS on the DR site has different IP address than the Production site

(2) production site ESXi tries to connect to VRS IP at the Dr site not directly through your port transfer machine

(3) what makes the replication to go to idle state

Please check the messages in the vmkernel.log file located in your source ESXi machine. Here's a useful KB KB VMware: VMware vSphere troubleshooting replication problems that might be useful.

Thank you

Dzhem

If I have deployed the unit of replication master vsphere in the production site, do I need to add an another master vsphere replication in the dr site?

Is replication? or it can also operate in bidirectional replication?

  • SRM using the issue of replication VRMS vSphere

    Hi guys,.

Basically normally when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRM, then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

'With the VRMS device in offline mode, it is not possible to recover virtual machines with vSphere replication. There are some items of third person out there that suggest that it is possible to manually change the files to the target location that make up the replica and recover a virtual machine. "While this is possible, I do not recommend relying on this method of recovery, because it's a very manual process and, above all, not supported by VMware "

Am I right in thinking that when you use SRM with replication of vsphere, this isn't a problem that you can 'force' recovery with MRS... .where is it always going to be a problem?

This is a question published iI in Re: 1 primary replication running unit and 1 device running the module

    Cheers for the help guys!

As Martin mentioned in the other thread, VR (and SRM when using VR) require work VRMS at the location of the target/recovery. To clarify your statement, read: "when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRMS on the site of your target/recovery , then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

With MRS is still a problem, but normally if your production site is affected it will not be an impact on VRM on the recovering site you will always be able to recover. Enforcement is where any operation is attempted on a protected site, so it's really for a different use case.

    Does that answer your question?

  • Are thinking of duplication of table to the replication of Vsphere, a quick question

We currently use Array replication and plan to use the replication of vsphere for flexibility. Unfortunately, we have more than 500 virtual machines to protect - but it is another question and I hope MRS. deploy several devices that will help.

I can't determine which network interface, the replication traffic goes on:

1 Hypervizor ports between the ESX hosts (which are 1Gbit in my case) where VMS are?

    2. pushed through vcenter somehow?

3 Vlan than VR devices are connected to the?

I have a 10 Gbps link between sites, trying to find how to use more than 1 GB, because the 3 options above are 1Gbit. Although the unit sat on a group of ports that is supported by the host ESX 10Gbit links - but I guess that the only real device of a 1Gbit NIC adapter.

    Hello

    Replication traffic is going:

1 VR source ESXi server at the remote site via custom protocol LWD (light-weight-delta) TCP ports 31031 and 44046.

    2. outside in VR server via port 902 device and Protocol NFC ESXi host target, then the target data store.

Separate NICS for VR (isolation of network traffic) replication traffic - to GDL from source ESXi to GDL for server VR application and for inbound replication traffic target ESXi NFC are not available in the current versions, but are part of an RV to come free.

The VR machine using a NIC vmxnet3

For the current version, you might want to perform some custom routing/formatting via the ports 31031 (initial full synchronization) and 44046 (all the traffic from replication after the initial synchronization is complete).

    Kind regards

    Martin

  • Restore with replication of vSphere

    Hello

We use SRM 5.1 with replication of vSphere.

I'm trying to get a rough idea of how long a reprotect operation would take after a failover, especially synchronization of storage.

    The manual says that:

"The full synchronization that appears especially in the stages of recovery performs control totals, and only a small amount of data is transferred over the network."

However in my testing this step still seems to take a long time to complete.  For a person of 50 GB, it takes 40 minutes.  My question is: what is the bottleneck here and I can speed things up?

In a live scenario, I have much larger comments VMs and I fear that a reprotect could take days to synchronize the storage.

    Thank you

    Steve

The full synchronization bed basically just for the disk data and checksum data. It also makes requests to read the data and return a set of checksums remotely. He would only send the data if the checksums do not match. Thus, assuming that not many disk changed, there is very little except checksum travel over the network. So you will respect especially how fast you can read files vmdk on both sites and to a lesser extent by the latency of the network between the sites, and, of course, if the link between the sites remains upward.

Check if the link to the sites is good. Get often ignored or not connections are limited somehow? The latency is extremely high, as hundreds of milliseconds? This can slow things down.

On the source site, make sure that the storage is not overloaded with other work. In the case of NAS/ISCSI, check also that there is no other work of network hogging bandwidth. Sometimes, there are periodic offers on secondary sites, like backups, and that people often forget this can be a lot of resources.

On the destination site, carry out similar checks and make sure that the server VR is to get a reasonable amount of network and CPU resources.

  • Go with SRM or replication of VSphere

    Hi all

I'm looking for a review here.

In our current environment, 600 more VM is get replicated to disaster recovery site using third-party replication tool. As we intend to upgrade our whole environment to vSphere 5.1, we intend to use the replication of vSphere. We do not plan to use SRM at this point.

We have two Vcenters, one for the env Prod and other for Dr. approx. We have our replication go on a dedicated channel for OC / 24.

We are not woried about the Automation and do not come back to this point, MRS is not a choice at this point.

    Questions.

    1. with the limitation of 500 rehearsals (employment) for the unit of replication VSphere, ho we satisfy our need of 600 replications?

    2. can we use vSphere several devices of replication on each site (by vcenter) without using SRM?

    3. If it says 500 is the maximum supported, loads of work how I can configure on device for proper operation.

    4. should I consider SRM in this stadium? If yes why?

Appreciate your help in this regard.

    Thank you

    Dembélé

I see, but I guess that at least for a start and a conecpt evidence of the use of VR, a single VRS is enough. In addition, you can always high-end to SRM later and get better performance with the deployment of new technologies...

You start this instance of SPFILE, and then remove this SPFILE? If so, then that is the problem, the backup is trying to save the SPFILE and default. Recreate the SPFILE from PFILE.

  • replication of vsphere can work with local disk?

I have cluster 2 esxi host (2 hp g7 servers) but I have no shared storage and all of my data on the local disk, now I want to know can I are not replicated on one of my machines with vsphere replication without any shared storage?

My main question: can I use the vsphere without shared storage replication?

    Best regards

    Babak

Yes. It's one of the advantages of vSphere replication - you can replicate between different types of storage including (non-shared) local data storage.

  • Why the Dell recovery partition is marked as partition active?

As far as I know the active partition where the bootloader. So I have a few questions:

How the recovery partition to load windows?

Could not Dell set the Windows partition active? If I do it myself that I would not be able to access?

Is this partition created by Dell or have I not this option with a non - OEM Windows copy as well?

    Hello VYOAMA

You are right that the boot loader is located on the active partition.

Your next question how it load windows? Instructions in the bootloader show

When windows is located on the disc and load it where. The old directory of BACK

has almost disappeared since the bootloader it uses and compensate for finding things on the disk.

Your next question about Dell implementation active Windows partition? Yes, and on some systems

and not on others. Your next question to yourself and that you would not be able

to access? One thing you cannot access is back at the factory. Once the connection between

Partition and windows partition recovery is broken cannot use F8 to recover the original image.

Your next question, yes Dell partition configuration, but it is a version of Microsoft Windows and you can

Create your recovery partition, the system, the partition to the OS partition and set the place in several ways.

Hope this answer some of your questions and always back up your computer before changing

    things.

  • Disaster recovery with replication for VSphere

Am just test VSphere 5 of replication. with a couple of test VMs

The replication process works very well

What I want to know is the process to recover a VM replicated to new hardware in the case of the complete failure of the original host and/or data store

    In essence, disaster recovery.

Yes, because it will be all your hard and .vmx files.

  • Stop the replication of vSphere

    Hello guys,.

I have a crowd of vsphere 5.5.0 VMware vCenter 6 and with the unit of replication 5.5.0, time ago, I configured the outbound replication for all virtual machines (VMS four) and replicate files are placed in a data store VMware another host, now I have to stop the replication (I know that all replicated files will be deleted) but I see that there are even virtual machines on the replication incoming and outgoing.

So, how do I stop? any incoming or outgoing?  who's the other?

    Thank you very much.

    Andrew

Select the virtual machine in the replication of your inventory, stocks, vSphere replication of the actions, stop (or pause?)

You see the incoming and outgoing is because you are replicating virtual machines to the same vCenter.

  • Replication of vSphere SRM - replica of the lack of virtual machines

    Hello

I use SRM with vSphere replication and all my virtual machines are properly replicated from my site for my recovery.site as you can see:

    Capture10.png

My problem is that I don't see all the replica of the VMs replicated in the inventory of the recovery site:

    Capture2.PNG

So when I was looking for in the web client vSphere replication monitor, I saw that all the virtual machines that are in the inventory of the recovery site are all managed by SRM. And all virtual machines managed by VR finally does not appear in the inventory.

    Capture3.PNG

Someone at - it never I have this problem or know the solution?

    Concerning

Hello and welcome to the community of VMware

The behavior you describe is planned. Between VR and SRM, is SRM work to create what is called 'space reserved VM' on the recovering site.

If replicate you a virtual machine using vSphere replication but skip protection by SRM, there is no virtual machine being recorded on the recovering Site until you run the RV GUI recovery operation.

Can I ask you why do you need to see the virtual machine on the recovering site? Even if it is there, you are not able to turn on.

    Best regards
