SRM using the issue of replication VRMS vSphere

Hi guys,.

Basically normally when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRM, then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

'With the VRMS device in offline mode, it is not possible to recover virtual machines with vSphere replication. There are some items of third person out there that suggest that it is possible to manually change the files to the target location that make up the replica and recover a virtual machine. "While this is possible, I do not recommend relying on this method of recovery, because it's a very manual process and, above all, not supported by VMware "

vSphere replication device failure and recovery prevention | VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

Am I right in thinking that when you use SRM with replication of vsphere, this isn't a problem that you can 'force' recovery with MRS... .where is it always going to be a problem?

This is a question published iI in Re: 1 primary replication running unit and 1 device running the module

Cheers for the help guys!

As Martin mentioned in the other thread, VR (and SRM when using VR) require work VRMS at the location of the target/recovery. To clarify your statement, read: "when using vsphere replication, if you lose the VRMS on the site of your target/recovery , then you cannot recover your virtual machines.

With MRS is still a problem, but normally if your production site is affected it will not be an impact on VRM on the recovering site you will always be able to recover. Enforcement is where any operation is attempted on a protected site, so it's really for a different use case.

Does that answer your question?

  • SRM and the volume of replication

    Hi guys,.

I have a client who seeks to implement the SRM.

Available to the virtual machines are as follows:

    • system on vmfs1 VMDK

    • VMDK vmfs2-data

    • Windows swap file on vmfs3

    • VM vswap files vmfs3

VMFS 1 & 2 are replicated but not 3. They tried to reduce the amount of unwanted changes block replicant.

Have I reason to say that they would have to replicate vmfs3 (even just once) to allow sucessfully SRM protect virtual machines?

Has anyone else came across such a configuration?

    Thank you

    Dougie

You don't need to reproduce your vmfs3 volume.

Just follow the procedure "avoiding replication of paging files and other transient data" of the SRM administration guide.

Machine configuration virtual swap sit on no replicated data store is pretty easy, but the swap file configuration is not that simple and requires several steps to be completed for each virtual machine, including cloning VMDK, the VM configuration, operating system setup and configuration of SRM.

  • SRM - excluding the OS data replication store

    Hi people,

I had a requirement as one of the application to exclude OS data replication store after the initial replication of secondary site.

So first I want to know is it possible to exclude replication to secondary site data store BONES as VMware SRM (by SRA) control replication?

If it is possible is recommended to exclude the data replication OS store?

    NOTE:

Operating system data store will be later replication when some manual changes committed in the ms (as the update, changes in demand, etc.)

    Thanks in advance...

    Hello

I had a requirement as one of the application to exclude OS data replication store after the initial replication of secondary site.

Are there other virtual machines on this data store that should be protected?

So first I want to know is it possible to exclude replication to secondary site data store BONES as VMware SRM (by SRA) control replication?

You must stop / cancel the configuration of the replication of the LUN manually on the storage array. SRM cannot 'see' that the LUNS are replicated and stop replication when you do a failover.

What you can do to protect that VM is to start the Wizard "To configure Protection" and on the storage options screen select the VMDK not replicated and mark it as detached. This will allow you to complete the wizard despite the disc not replicated VM. But consider only failover / recovery test, you will need to present the data store to the hosts and fix the OS VMDK on this virtual machine manually.

If it is possible is recommended to exclude the data replication OS store?

Of course, it cannot be a common recommendation. What about application settings / settings OS / event logs / other things? You want to replicate the data manually store whenever something is changed in the OS?

What is the specific reason to not replicate the BONES?

If you check the syntax of the statement to CREATE the COUPLE of STANDBY ACTIVE in the docs, you will see that you do not specify a schema name of replication for this type of scam. Your declaration must therefore:

    Create a standby pair active noas_master1 on "01HW289253", noas_master2 on Subscriber noas_dsn1 "01HW321143" on "01HW289395", noas_dsn2 on "01HW289395", noas_dsn3 on "01HW289407", noas_dsn4 on "01HW289407";

    Just give a try.

  • HP Officejet 5740: HP Officejet 5740 impression & analysis of the issues

    Hello

I just bought a HP 5740 and have implemented to print wireless from my PC, iphone 6, notebk.

I have the following questions & any advice would be much appreciated:-

    1. is there a limit on the number of wireless devices, I can connect to the printer?

    2. when using the Automatic Document Feeder for scanning/printing of documents, scanned images or impressions appear slightly

    biased.

Is this likely to be a problem with the ADF?

I thought possible is to refine the ADF paper tabs more far but I worry about the documents in

could be stuck causing a jam.

    Thank you.

    Hi @Chrissy_61,

Welcome to the HP Support forum.

I understand that you have purchased a HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one printer you have connected wireless to a 10 PC Windows, but also an iPhone 6 and a notebook. I will be happy to answer your questions about the limits to the number of wireless devices that can be connected and the output of the ADF is slightly biased.

There is no real limit to the number of wireless devices can connect to the printer. Devices are actually connecting to the printer on the wireless network of your router, so that it really on the number of the router wireless connections can handle. I've seen some cheaper model routers handle 5 wireless comfortably, but once again, it is more on the router and what are wireless devices on the network the router wireless.

For the unbalanced output when using the issue of the ADF, you definitely want that paper is loaded properly, and the paper guides are to the edge of the sides of the paper without being so tight that it is originally the paper not to remain flat in the ADF. If you have problems tilt when using the ADF, here is a document that can help - the ADF (ADF) documents do not choose paper. It is a generic document that covers all the printers with ADFs.

Please let me know if that solves the problem, or if you need assistance.

In fact, if it helps you to find a solution, please click on the 'accept as Solution' and the 'thumbs up' buttons down below in this message.

  • replication of vSphere

If I have deployed the unit of replication master vsphere in the production site, do I need to add an another master vsphere replication in the dr site?

Is replication? or it can also operate in bidirectional replication?

  • How to use the VMKernel vSphere replication traffic

I'm trying to set up my host with my camera of replication with a stand-alone VMKernal with activated on its own virtual replication traffic vSphere VLAN.

After that I have it set to 2 guests (each with local data warehouses) and tried to replicate a virtual machine from one host to the host with the VR device, traffic goes out on the management vlan / network card on the host of the virtual machine is received on the host with the device (where I'm storing data) on the VM nic inbound / vlan.

I want 100% of my replication traffic off the coast of the management and the network of the VM, just as I did with vmotion.

    Hello

On the establishment of the vmkernel to tag in ESXi 5.0.x and 5.1.x replication traffic is an experimental feature and still not officially supported.

You have to somehow router ports of replication traffic. Some people use solutions WAN optimizer (Riverbed or similar).

The VR device must be have access to vCenter Server and the hosts that can be used to write to data warehouses target. Link to article with the correct port numbers should be present in the Administrator's guide.

  • SRM requires the same version of vSphere in both places?

We need to quickly implement SRM, I know that is not the way to do it, but it is a decision that I am not charged. We will use SRM 5.1.  I have not read the documentation of SRM totally still, but I hope someone can answer me this:

Do we need to run the same version of vSphere in both places?

    Site A (Production):

-vSphere 4.1 (updated anything) Enterprise - because our material is NOTon the compatibility list for something more recent

-vCenter 5.1 - Let's fix our current server vCenter Server 4.1 to 5.1

    Site B (DR):

-vSphere 4.1 U2 (or newer) company - this material is NOT identical to that site but is compatible with 4.1 U2 thru 5.1

    -vCenter Server 5.1

We have here a viable solution?

    Thanks for the help.

You're right that MRS requires 3rd party replication or VMware vSphere replication (or you can use the two together).  SRM itself doesn't replicate anything, she orchestrates and manages the recovery of virtual machines protected by these other mechanisms.

If you do not have the option of replication of the table, then you must use vSphere replication.

VR, however, is a function of the ESXi core appeared in 5.0.  He is by nature a part of the hypervisor itself, so he needs to a 5.x or higher host to use, it's is not an authorization to issue at all.

To use VR, you will need the hosts on both sites to use 5.x - site source must 5.x use the Filter/agent in the core that produced the data from the replica.

My * personal * take on it's you would be best served to stand up for VC 5.1 on both sites, and then upgrade your hosts to 5.1, and then deploy appliances virtual RV (used to manage replication and register the service with VC), can protect certain virtual machines so that you get used to the behavior of VR, then put the RS on top (5.1 on the two sites) and start building protection of groups and the stimulus packages and others.

  • replication of vSphere in SRM 5.1

I know that replicaion of vsphere support reprotect and recovery in SRM 5.1.

In our environment, I am using vcenter 5 u1 to manage several u1 5.0 esxi hosts.

I intend to deploy MIS. What version of SRM to install the thought. (SRM 5.0 or 5.1 SRM)

If I decide to deploy SRM 5.1, I improve vCenter 5.1 prior to installation of the SRM 5.1. vCenter 5.1 can support ESXi 5.1 and 5.0 ESXi hosts.

I want to know if I need to use the feature of vsphere SRM 5.1 replication, what I need to improve 5.0 to 5.1 ESXi ESXi? Dungeon using ESXi 5.0?

    Any mention of the document?

    Hello

To be specified. You have three options.

    With SRM:

    1. 2 vCenter and 2 servers RS servers. At version 5.1.

Without RS (no testing and no reprotect):

    2. 2 5.1 vCenter servers.

    3. 1 vCenter server 5.1 (what is called single instance)

So, if you want to test and automatic failover your choice is option #1.

  • Go with SRM or replication of VSphere

    Hi all

I'm looking for a review here.

In our current environment, 600 more VM is get replicated to disaster recovery site using third-party replication tool. As we intend to upgrade our whole environment to vSphere 5.1, we intend to use the replication of vSphere. We do not plan to use SRM at this point.

We have two Vcenters, one for the env Prod and other for Dr. approx. We have our replication go on a dedicated channel for OC / 24.

We are not woried about the Automation and do not come back to this point, MRS is not a choice at this point.

    Questions.

    1. with the limitation of 500 rehearsals (employment) for the unit of replication VSphere, ho we satisfy our need of 600 replications?

    2. can we use vSphere several devices of replication on each site (by vcenter) without using SRM?

    3. If it says 500 is the maximum supported, loads of work how I can configure on device for proper operation.

    4. should I consider SRM in this stadium? If yes why?

Appreciate your help in this regard.

    Thank you

    Dembélé

I see, but I guess that at least for a start and a conecpt evidence of the use of VR, a single VRS is enough. In addition, you can always high-end to SRM later and get better performance with the deployment of new technologies...

  • vSphere client using the name Netbios on ESXi host does not connect using the credentials of a Windows session

I have 3 ESXi 5.5 hosts, all connected to a single server vCenter, where we try to authenticate directly to the host by using the windows logon credentials. I have installation of the Administrators group of ESX and filled with the admin accounts that I want to be able to authenticate to the host. The Netbios name of the domain is tstdomain (for example) where the domain name is tstdomain.com. If I connect directly to a host and check the checkbox 'Use Windows Session Credentials', the vSphere client will default by using the Netbios name of tstdomain\adminusername and the connection will fail indicating that the username and/or password is incorrect. If I enter the domain name of tstdomain.com\adminusername, I am able to connect to the host without error.

Does anyone know how get past that this matter have the vSphere client uses the domain name or to use the Netbios name and connect with the credentials to active directory? I looked by editing the file/etc/hosts and checked that the SPN of the host is correct in active directory with the command hostname setspn - l, with no luck on one. I also tried to change the field of research for the Netbios name of tstdomain rather than the tstdomain.com domain name, also did not work.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions on how to correct the problem.

Seems that this issue was due to a slow network and the connection timeout when you try to talk to the domain controller. I am able to connect with windows creds now, but the connection is very slow. I increased the default period of 30 to 60 seconds to help work around the problem.

  • Impossible to connect to vCenter Server 5.5 using the vSphere Client

    Hello

I'm trying to configure VMware Lab home using the link below and I have reached a stage where I need to connect to vCenter Server using the vSphere client.

    http://boerlowie.WordPress.com/2011/12/13/building-the-ultimate-vSphere-lab-part-9-ESXi/

I installed the package of 5.5 full vCenter server using the simple installation option and it includes vCenter server, single sign - on, Webclient vSphere, vCenter server and vCenter Server inventory service. All the the latter is installed on a virtual machine that is running Windows server 2008 R2 guest OS.

Whenever I try to open a session on the vCenter Server uses the vSphere client, one of the following error is displayed.

    1. you do not have the permissions to connect to the server 'vCenter server IP address.

    2. cannot complete the connection incorrect username or password-, this error is visible when I do not specify domain\username domain user name and simply enter the user name.

For the details of the error, please see the screenshots - vSphere_client_1, vSphere_client_2 and vSphere_client_3.

As suggested in the link below, I tried to create an SPN and then set the SPN (Principal of Service name) and the UPN (User Principal name) in the Active Directory identity Source using the web of vSphere client (please see screenshot vSphere_Webclient_2)

    http://vinfrastructure.it/2014/01/issue-in-logging-into-vCenter-server-using-Windows-ad-credentials/

To fix the permission error, I tried to add the domain user to the Administrators group on the server vCenter (see screenshot vSphere_Webclient_1).

However, none of the above-mentioned resolution has worked.

So can someone please help? I am stuck because of this problem and badly need help to move forward.

    Thank you

    AJMAL

Able to connect to the vSphere Client do you use the [email protected] account?

Have you already set up permissions on the server vCenter object?

  • Are thinking of duplication of table to the replication of Vsphere, a quick question

We currently use Array replication and plan to use the replication of vsphere for flexibility. Unfortunately, we have more than 500 virtual machines to protect - but it is another question and I hope MRS. deploy several devices that will help.

I can't determine which network interface, the replication traffic goes on:

1 Hypervizor ports between the ESX hosts (which are 1Gbit in my case) where VMS are?

    2. pushed through vcenter somehow?

3 Vlan than VR devices are connected to the?

I have a 10 Gbps link between sites, trying to find how to use more than 1 GB, because the 3 options above are 1Gbit. Although the unit sat on a group of ports that is supported by the host ESX 10Gbit links - but I guess that the only real device of a 1Gbit NIC adapter.

    Hello

    Replication traffic is going:

1 VR source ESXi server at the remote site via custom protocol LWD (light-weight-delta) TCP ports 31031 and 44046.

    2. outside in VR server via port 902 device and Protocol NFC ESXi host target, then the target data store.

Separate NICS for VR (isolation of network traffic) replication traffic - to GDL from source ESXi to GDL for server VR application and for inbound replication traffic target ESXi NFC are not available in the current versions, but are part of an RV to come free.

The VR machine using a NIC vmxnet3

For the current version, you might want to perform some custom routing/formatting via the ports 31031 (initial full synchronization) and 44046 (all the traffic from replication after the initial synchronization is complete).

  • FPGA - try to use the screw of the replication of RIO to replace going to reset the FPGA running

    Running LabVIEW 12.1

We have an application that uses an FPGA that was compiled in Run to Reset (works on any reset or power on).  Sometimes we need to update the image on the RT and FPGA and I downloaded the NI RIO replication screw.

The problem I have now is that when I got to download the bitfile on the Flash FPGA on the sbRIO9636, I get the following error:

    Error-61141

    Possible reasons:

LabVIEW FPGA: The operation could not be performed because the FPGA is busy. Stop all activity on the FPGA before asking this operation. If the target is in the Interface of Scan program mode, put in FPGA Interface programming mode.

My updater is stand alone EXE.  He isn't able to get a link to the FPGA, because we are not sure what Bitfile currently is on a particular system.  I tried using the open FPGA reference and load a VACUUM on the FPGA bitfile by setting the FPGA to RUN when he sound the FPGA VI of the Open reference - and it works for me to erase the bitfile.  It does not allow me to immediately after run the bitfile VI of replication of RIO download - even if I close and reset the FPGA before trying to download the Bitfile for the RIO Flash.

I have to first delete the existing bitfile, then load a new?

Well, I found what I consider as a workaround - but maybe it's required to do things - but it doesn't seem like it should be, since the RIO device Setup.exe is able to flash or clear the bitfile regardless of the State of the FPGA.

What I've done is to define the FPGA to "do not load automatically on re" then call the RT Config screw system and order a restart of the system.  The RT operating system restarts and then restarts the RIO system and this ensures that the FPGA is not busy.  Then I'm able to erase them or write about a new bitfile for the RIO Flash and set the "Automatic loading on any Reset" Rio de JANEIRO and restart the system again.

Our current situation, it will work.  Long time restarts do a bit of headache.
