Repository for specific protected machine

A protected machine may be configured to use a specific repository?  I want to be able to back up my Exchange Server to a repository to another location and I don't want other machines protected by using this repository.  Is this possible?

Thank you. Russ

When you add a computer to a core through protection, it will ask you what repo you want to use. So the answer is Yes.

  • Simple disk alert for specific servers

    Hi all

    Can someone tell me how to alert of simple disk for specific virtual machines please? That is to say if Server X drive E:\ hits 20 GB free, send an e-mail.

    I tried to change the rule VMW Virtual Machine, use of logical disk , but I can't limit the scope to specific servers I want to follow. Very confusing.

    VFoglight v6.6.2 using.

    Thanks in advance.

    You can change the call to the scope to include only the specific virtual machines.

    You can test this concept in the Script Console, using the query line.  Don't forget that everything is case-sensitive.

    First, enter VMWVirtualMachine , and then select query.  You should see all your virtual machines

    Then, enter VMWVirtualMachine where name like '% ServerX' and you should get only back the corresponding VMs.  You can extend this to help where and not built.  for example VMWVirtualMachine where (name like name like '% ServerY' or 'ServerX %') once you're comfortable with that, we can take the step 2.  The '%' is a wildcard character, corresponding to a number any character.

    Now, let's take a look on your particular case, which is a little more complicated, because the name of the virtual machine is not directly part of the object VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk .

    We need to start with VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk as our base and then extend it.

    Still in Script Editor, enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk in the query line and select query.  You should see a large number of records of logical drive.  By selecting one of them and selecting the tab panel object below will show you some of the properties of this object.

    Then, enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk where name like '% C:' and select query.  You should see a small list, showing only C: drives.

    That's nice, but as the name property of the VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk object is the drive letter, not the name of the virtual machine, it does not help your case.

    The trick is to remember that these are objects, not rows in a table SQL.  And there's a handy article on the object called parentsmodel.  You can see by scrolling down through the selected properties of VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk , until you see relatives.  It is a link to the top of the object tree and can be used to select what need you.

    Enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk, where parents.name like "ServerX %", and you should see just logical drives for the selected virtual machine.  Again, you can build more complex criteria.  In addition, you should be aware that in certain types of objects, parents is not one, but a list of items (e.g. warehouses under the ESX hosts, where a data store can be a child of many ESX host.)  The query in this case would be built in a different way, to deal with several possible outcomes.

    OK, so now we are ready to make your new rule.  You NEVER want to change a standard rule, you should always copy rule, if necessary, the deactivation of the original.

    Copy rule VMW Virtual Machine, use of logical drive to a new rule and go to the tab of the rule definition.

    Under scope rule, you will see VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk in the largest area.  This can be entered in the menu dropdown just above him, but it can also be added to by typing directly into the larger area.

    Change the biggest box of VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk to VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk, where parents.name like '% ServerX' and test the scope of the rule with the little green check mark on the side.

    In green text, you shuold see that your scope has been changed to the desired list of virtual machines.

    Don't forget to press on save, very important

  • Cannot set a specific repository for a machine

    I tried many ways to change/set a specific repository for a specific computer and it always goes back to the original.  I removed from the basic machine (saved restore points) and created a new repository. When I added the rear machine automatically resumed inside the restore points, etc. and back have been started.

    I removed again (guarded restore points), pushed the agent to the machine and selected the new repository and he said the agent on this computer is the same as the agent on this computer and reset it with the changes. Rebooted the machine.  However, he still picked up points of restoration on the core and attached to the old repository.

    I tried a total of 5 different ways to get this machine to see a new repository, but no luck.  The only thing I did is remove the machine & points of restoration out of the nucleus and the Constable and I tried.   Archiving is a joke to say the least and takes 20 hours to around 2.2 to has failed or * the rest of the system (as he did last night).

    I used several different backup systems, but AppAssure is by far the worst, slower and less reliable I've seen.  Even my old band system Veritas has been 100% reliable and I spent less time to manage.

    I'm only protect three machines on it so it can't be that difficult.  Any thoughts?

    Thank you. Russ

    Hi Russ,

    AppAssure has a relationship one between the agent and the repository.  You can have data from an agent in a repository at the same time.  Because Wes pointed out you can follow this KB support.software.dell.com/.../117750 . to migrate from the agent and he gave repo from one to the other.

    There is another option to move an agent to a new repository.  You can change the Unique ID of the Agent and then restore it.  By doing this, the kernel will see it as a new agent and allow you to define any repository on your heart, as is the master repository.  If you take this approach, you can keep the old restore points for the agent in the first repository and have all new backups to go to the new repository. Please note that you can never match these two sets of recovery points together once again, because the kernel identifies as a different agent data.  Then they will be displayed always separately.

    To make this change:

    1. Change the display name of the current agent to something different (usually I just add - old for it)
    2. Stop the agent service
    3. On the agent, remove the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Agent\AgentId registry key
    4. Start the agent service and the registry key and the subkeys will be regenerated
    5. Run the wizard of protection on the basis of protecting agent and be sure to select the right repository
    6. Delete the former agent of protection and keep the recovery points
    7. You have now - former agents like recovery Points only and agent under protection.  A new base image is taken as there is still no data for this agent, but once the base is taken all subsequent backups should be incremental.

    As for your statement about archiving is a joke, I would need to learn more about your configuration to make a statement. What storage do you use for your storage space?  What speed, the size and the number of disks are used?  What RAID configuration? Is it directly attached, NAS or CIFS? Personally, I always found AppAssure as reliable when repository storage is reliable.  Regarding speed, AppAssure runs how fast on your database server resources are capable. I saw TB of data archived in just a few hours.  I've also seen take days.  It depends on the material used.

  • Exadata as repository for ODI

    Hello

    I'm new on exadata and odi 12 c. This is perhaps a silly question - I tried searching but couldn't find an appropriate response.

    We plan to use ODI 12.1.3.0.0 with Exadata. Can we use exadata 12 c as a repository for ODI?

    In the matrix certification I couldn't find exadata separately.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JAC,

    When you have an Oracle database installed inside your Exadata machine you can surely create repositories ODI in there. ODI repositories are actually sets of tables that should be stored in relational database management systems like Oracle. Other RDBMS systems are also possible to create repositories of ODI, for example, IBM DB2, MySQL, MS SQL Server.

  • vROPs and SRM - protected Machines and placeholder VMs have different guest free space operating system

    Hi all

    Question: Home - health - screen 'one or more machines virtual comments file systems are running out of disk space' has different values for MRS. protect VMs and VMs placeholder.

    Someone has to meet a gap with machines SRM protected value of free space of different OS comments that the position expressed VM?   I've been enforcing a cleaning of the guests with < 5% free space.  When we clean up the comments, the alert is cleared almost immediately on the VM protégé (power on), but the position expressed VM is never a present according to vROPs value.

    Is this a known issue? Is the problem with SRM or vROPs.  Are the vCenters related with MRS supported?

    I'm under vRops 6.2.0.3528905 build 3528905.  We use array based replication and have a GB link between sites.  Replication occurs in less than 5 minutes, so this shouldn't be a problem.  I can still see the question once a day and VMS space have yet to synchronize or to get close in value to their counterpart protect VM.

    Thank you

    Luis C.

    So after a discussion with the SRM team and vRealize Operations Manager, has identified vRealize treated VMs placeholder as ordinary VMs.   The interesting thing is that when a failover test is running that hard drives are connected to the VM placeholder.  All the information from disk are ingested in the vCenter site recovery.   Later this was my problem.  I had to open a feature request.  If any of you are in the same boat please do the same so they'll add logic in to MRS.   At the moment my solution was to create a dynamic group for turning off VMs and join the dynamic group to a policy with disabled alarms.

  • SRM 5.5 - vSphere replication - error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine. A snapshot operation cannot be performed

    Hi all, we have just run a test DR failover of a couple of virtual machines in our protected our failover site and all site swung perfectly, two virtual machines came online and all applications work well. However when we cam to r-eprotect machines virtual, we get some errors.

    One of the virtual machines seems to have lived the reprotect end process, it is still running, but has not moved to 89% for some time. The virtual machine has a couple of grand (a little less than 2 TB) VMDK. slow progress is just a consequence of the large VMDK?

    More worrisome is the virtual machine which don't reprotect at all. It generates an error whenever I click on the "Restore" button (error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine.) A snapshot operation can not be performed).

    Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Andy

    Finally got to the bottom of this. The issue was that reprotect SRM work was trying to dispel any snapshots that were taken on the computer object virtual destination in VMWare, but could not clean snapshots.

    The reason why snapshots would not consolidate was because it was snapshots of temporary VEEAM who in fact any snapshot file listed in the VSAN data store. So when we looked through the browser data store, no snapshot file existed in the virtual computers folder. Trying a manual removal also failed.

    To fix this, we created a snapshot of the virtual machine in the original data center (note is the engine to the bottom of the virtual machine), this effect was to get rid of the 'fade' snapshot that was visible in the Snapshot Manager that VEEAM backup had left behind. Once this had disappeared, the reprotect back to DCA worked perfectly.

  • Retrieve the tasks and events for a Virtual Machine

    Hello everyone.

    This question may seem trivial to some people here, but I cannot make it work: I would like to use VCO to retrieve the tasks and events for a specific virtual machine (IN parameter). Can someone help me to do?

    Best regards

    As I said, it must create a collector by using the createCollectorForTasks method in VcTaskManager.

    The parameter of this method is an instance of VcTaskFilterSpec, in which specify you the object to filter (in your case, the reference entity VM)

    You will get a VcTaskHistoryCollector which can only be traversed by using the methods readNextTasks and readPreviousTasks.

    // Get TaskManager service
    var sdktm = vm.sdkConnection.taskManager;

    // Create FilterSpec containing vm reference to filter
    var filter = new VcTaskFilterSpec();
    var spec = new VcTaskFilterSpecByEntity();
    spec.entity = vm.reference;
    spec.recursion = VcTaskFilterSpecRecursionOption.self;
    filter.entity = spec;

    // Create collector
    var collector = sdktm.createCollectorForTasks(filter);
    collector.resetCollector();

    // Browse all pages returned by collector (10 entries per page)
    var taskPage;
    while ((taskPage = collector.readPreviousTasks(10)) != null)
    {
        for each (var task in taskPage)
        {
            System.log("Task: " + task.name + " -> " + task.startTime);
        }
    }

  • Disable the clichés for individual virtual machines?

    Hi all

    Is it possible to disable support for snapshot for individual virtual machines, perhaps via a parameter for it?  Or is the closest answer you to put all its virtual disks in independent mode?  Try to see how to better meet the requirements that certain suppliers impose that the VM/device does not catch instant and thought that the best solution is to disable the feature for the specific VM (s) only.  Thank you!

    You can watch the snapshot.maxSnapshots configuration setting. See KB 1031280 for more information.

  • script to check a setting in a file for specific entry vmx

    HI friends,

    I wonder if it is possible to control the specific entry VMX file via script powercli. Actually I wanted to search for all virtual machines which has "scsi0:1.writeThrough ="true"in the VMX file. You guys can help me please.

    Of course, try something like this

    $vmName = "VM*"$tgtFolder = "C:\Temp\VMX\"$tgtString = 'scsi0:1.writeThrough = "true"'

    Get-VM -Name $vmName | %{  $dsName,$vmxPath = $_.ExtensionData.Config.Files.VmPathName.Split()  $dsName = $dsName.Trim('[]')  $ds = Get-Datastore -Name $dsName  New-PSDrive -Location $ds -Name DS -PSProvider VimDatastore -Root "\" | Out-Null  Copy-DatastoreItem -Item "DS:$vmxPath" -Destination $tgtFolder  Remove-PSDrive -Name DS -Confirm:$false}

    Get-ChildItem -Path $tgtFolder -Filter "*.vmx" | Where {Get-Content -Path $_.FullName | Select-String -Pattern $tgtString} |Select Name

    It displays the name of each VMX file in which the string "scsi0:1.writeThrough =" True "" is located.

  • Help - automation of the ad groups in assigning roles for a virtual machine

    Hi all, I have this doubt.

    We are the migration of vSphere 4.1 and 5.1

    Not by update manager, but manually adding hosts an accumulation 5.1!

    Here's the thing, each virtual machine that will be imported/created/deployed to this new vCenter 5.1 will have a corresponding pre configuration of group by our admin guy!

    For — for example, if the virtual computer name is vm_0123, a group called "SVR_VM_0123" would be ready and waiting to be assigned to this specific virtual machine, and then to a role. And this permission will be set at the virtual machine level.

    And now, all the virtual machines that will be added to 4.1 and 5.1 have their configuration of groups!

    So can automate us the "attribution" permissions on each computer virtual imported/created (a role common to the respective groups) through PowerCLI?

    Questions or suggestions are welcome!

    Thank you

    I assume you have the virtual computer name in the variable $vmName, then you could do

    $vm = get-VM-name $vmName

    New-VIPermission-body $vm - main ("SVR_" + $vmName) - role $role

    You can place these lines in a loop.

    This could be for example a loop, controlled by the content of a CSV file.

    Something like that

    Import-Csv C:\vmnames.csv | %{

    $vm = get - VM - name _.vmName $

    New-VIPermission-body $vm - main ("SVR_" + $_.vmName)-role $_.role

    }

    This means that the CSV file should look like this

    "vmName"; "" role.

    "vm1', 'administrator '.

    "vm2', 'read only '.

  • Assign a port to a specific virtual machine network and combine ports

    Hello

    I have two questions.  1. is it possible to assign a specific to a single virtual computer network port? and 2. I can aggregate multiple physical port to act as 1 and have a virtual port to VMS?

    I'm new to VMware so please forgive me if this is a fundamental issue.  I tried googleing the issue but did not have much luck.  I have a Dell R710 with 4 physical network ports.  Currently all the virtual machines on the host sharing a port.  I would like to use one of the ports and assign it to a specific virtual machine and only this VM.  One of the virtual machines is my / home server and NFS exports him / home dirs to other systems.  This virtual machine will be cumbersome to use network.  I want to assign its own network for its traffic port does not impede the movement of other virtual machines.

    I would also like to consolidate other ports into a single virtual port.

    If you can tell me a document that explains how to do this, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the VMware communities forum.   With the default installation of ESXi, a single virtual switch (vSwitch0) is created using vmnic0.   If you want to add additional NIC ports simply go to Configuration > network and then click the properties link to the vSwitch.  Click network adapters, and then click Add to add another NIC port.   ESXi then balance the network traffic load.

    You could dedicate a NIC port to a virtual machine, but possibility of ESXi to balance the traffic load I would simply add additional NETWORK adapter ports to vSwitch0.  If your network needs simply to include VM and management traffic, then I would have simply put all 4 ports NETWORK card in vSwitch0 and let ESXi manage traffic.  This way, you get as much redundancy.

    If you use network storage for your virtual machines (such as iSCSI) then you can consider segment this traffic.  In this case create you a new vSwitch and that a link to 2 (i.e. 2 NETWORK ports for iSCSI) NETWORK ports and then other 2 NETWORK ports in vSwitch0 for ranks of VM traffic.

    VMware now offers a right to training free ESXi.  See the first link below.

  • Disable vmotion for 1 virtual machine in an ESX host

    Hello

    We have an ESX environment that is configured with vMotion.

    As a result, I've seen VMs from one ESX to another very frequently.

    Among these virtual machines, I have a very critical virtual machine, I want to move to any other host ESX.

    Y at - it an option that I can use to disable VMotion only for this particular virtual machine of mine (in order to keep constant on the ESX on which it is right now) and allow the other virtual machines to continue.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thanks in advance

    I guess that your VMS migrate between ESX servers because configuration automated DRS ESX cluster level. You can replace it for a specific virtual machine. Cluster of right click Select-> "Settings"-> click on options of the Virtual Machine under VMware DRS,. On the right, make sure 'Enable the levels of automation individuak virtual machine' is checked. You can see VMs list below. Select the virtual machine that you want to replace and change the level of automation for people with reduced mobility

    Hello

    How to list the files of data store for the virtual machine? I can't find reference to the command.

    Thank you

    If you have installed vCLI and vSphere SDK for Perl, you have extra utilities on top of what is there with the vCLI, take a look at this list: http://www.vmware.com/support/developer/viperltoolkit/viperl40/doc/vsperl_util_index.html
