Require restart of the instance cache read-only to suffer a complete refresh?

Basic question on the cache read-only group:

When restarting of the machine hosting a cache read-only TimesTen (or restarting the instance TimesTen), TimesTen must reload the entire cache of Oracle? Either it uses data from a file of control point and ask that changes in Oracle to the point of control?

Thank you!

TimesTen recovery is almost something all or nothing. It can recover completely or not at all. If ar control points and/or newspapers damaged so that it can recover at all so the whole datastroe must be re-created (e.g. from a backup). In this case it will take a complete refresh and it should be done manually as part of the recovery of the data store.

There is an interesting case of corner. If there is a corruption to the end of newspapers and LogAutoTruncate = 1 (the default value by the way!), let's get back to the point of corruption and throw the rest of the newspapers. In this case, depending on which newspaper was ruled out, it could well be 'missing' cache TT tables (and indeed of memory not cache tables) of data. The AUTOREFRESH mechanism will detect in the majority of cases this and will trigger a refresh complete but maybe this isn't what you want. a complete refresh of a 10 M line table is a great thing and could have an impact as well TT and Oracle while it is happening.

My advice is to disable the LogAutoTruncate. In most cases, after any failure recovery will work very well and AUTOREFRESH will recover automatically. In cases where there are problems of recovery (which is a very serious situation in any case) it is best to take some control over the recovery process yourself.

Recently, I was not able to change the properties of 'read only' to my files. I click on 'Properties', uncheck the 'read only', press on apply, click OK. It has stopped me to back up files, since I get the message that the files are 'read only' and cannot be changed.

The read-only attribute has never been applicable to files under XP. You can try to take ownership of files/folders instead.

  • Accessing the PDM in read-only mode

    Hi all.

I have a Pix with ver 6.3 and I want to allow access to the customer in read-only mode.

I usually don't use aaa and privileges to avoid locking issues, but now it seems that I have to face the issue.

    I have 2 questions:

    A. is the next plan safe (enough) to avoid blocking?

    1. username admin password * priv 15

    2. username pdmuser password * priv 5

3 aaa authentication http LOCAL console

    4. level 5 privilege control?

    B. what shoul commands assign the privilege 5 level to allow the user see the welcome and the tracking completely Page?

    Thank you

    Michele

    Hi Michele,

    A. Yes, it is safe and sufficient not to lockout the pix. Infact, your console/telnet will not be affected, only the PDM with the above configuration in place.

    B. There are three levels different priv for PDM, monitor (level 3), read-only (level5) and admin (level 15). So level monitor is all that he needs to go to the Home Page and monitoring page. Here is the procedure:

Turn on the AAA for PDM:

    -System Properties

    -Admin Pix

    Authentication/authorization

    -Check HTTP/PDM

    -Select service LOCAL group

    -Box ENBALE AUTHORIZATION

    -Select service LOCAL group

    Creatting users:

-User-> user with level 15 and 3 (monitor) account

    Thank you

  • How to limit the request for read-only access

We are the migration of 7.1 to version 11.1. As part of the Cup on the activities, I need to keep the old server on read-only for a few days and then completely block access. • Can I change some partitions of the partitioned table read-only?

I have a table partitioned by range (partitioned hourly).

I want to keep history in line of the query data (historical data are rarely accessd). But in this way, the table is too large. The performance can be a big problem. Thus, certain problems may arise:
How can I change the years partition read-only?
How to decrease the workload on this table and improve performance?

    Oracle 10g (10.2.0.3) + Solaris 10

How can I change the years partition read-only?

10.2.x.x I think only tablespaces can be made read-only.

In 11g you can place tables in read-only mode, but I don't know for specific partitions.

  • Immediate refresh of the cache read-only with autorefresh incremental on group

I work with a group of read-only cache that was created like this:

    Create group readonly TT_SOME_TABLE cache
    AutoRefresh
    differential mode
    interval milliseconds 300000
    State on
    Of
    () UNE_TABLE
    SOME_COL_1 NUMBER (11),
    SOME_COL_2 CHAR (1),
    SOME_COL_3 varchar (8) inline non-null,.
    PRIMARY KEY (SOME_COL_1));

In normal use, the auto-refresh every 300000 milliseconds (5 minutes) is good - but in a particular scenario I want to manually force an immediate update of the Group cache from the command line.

The following two commands in ttIsql do the trick:

    command > alter cache group tt_some_table set autorefresh State suspended;
command > refresh cache group tt_some_table commit all 256 rows.

However, the Refresh command issues a response message "21 cache of the authorities concerned.". This is the total number of lines, oracle holds for une_table, whereas before the update I've only updated 1 row. This makes me think that my manual refresh is not progressive. Am I wrong? On the plus side, the Refresh command switches the autorefresh return State on 'on' which is useful.

Is there a better way to make an immediate update on a group of cache that is normall auto-actualise?. Can be done more?

Manul LOAD / REFRESH is always a complete refresh rather than a differential (they work by different mechanisms). There is no way that I know to force an immediate refresh of incremental. You can try setting the AUTOREFRESH State pause and back to on. That could force an immediate refresh, but I have not tried so I do not know whether there will be.

  • the documents become read-only when I download a document in word 2007

I'm losing my mind on that, and it's impact on my work (and income). I have windows vista and word 2003, excel 2003 on my laptop. Whenever I have download a word 2007 document (I don't even register on my computer, just download it), ALL of my word and excel docs permutation for 2007!

    They become read-only!
I have to solve this problem as soon as possible, as I have so many docs that I need to access and change for various reasons that are related to employment.
    Help, please!
A version of Word 2007 came with the computer, for a trial period. I used it and never sent payment for the product key. I wonder how much it would cost? But anyway, I don't want to buy 2007 when 2010 is out. I probably still have the same problem with the docs 2007 reconfiguration to 2010 docs.

Well, I think I have your situation sorted.

You should go to the Control Panel programs and features and uninstall the Word 2007 Home and student if it is a trial. Uninstall the 2007 activation assistant as well. Restart the computer.
After the computer comes back up, get back in programs and features and perform a repair on your Office 2003 Professional. This involves the selection Office 2003 Pro and clicking change above the list of programs. On the first screen, select repair , and then click continue at the bottom right. Go through the process normally, clicking Next or OK as required.

This repair procedure will restore all your associations default file for the Office 2003 programs.

  • Try to update the files are read-only...

Haven't bought the upgrade to Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3 to 7 pro all folders in XP are set to read only, so the upgrade will not unload tried the attrib-r + s c:\ reset without effect, there is no ownership of property for these records... so how can I remove the read-only attrubite?

Well, you could do a custom install and recover your data from the Windows.old folder:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

This make all folders on the computer and all the files stored inside. The individual files are not performed. If I remove read-only folders and files and click OK, reopen the file and the attribute has been applied.

    Dave

It's not a problem... it is a feature.

At a time in the past, Windows has decided that the read-only attribute means nothing, because it applies to files, so Microsoft 'solved' this bit to indicate to whom the file has been customized.  There are other methods available if you really don't want to do a write-protected file.  The details are explained in the following Microsoft KB article.  I recommend reading the article in full to understand what Microsoft did...

"You can not view or change the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7"
