  • turn off buttons resetpassword in IOM

    Hello

We have installed 11.1.2.2 IOM and LDAPSync is enabled. We have created a group named TASKOPERATORS and added a few users. Now in IOM we want to enable/disable/Lock/Unlock/reset password to assign to this group feature. This feature is available for internal default "SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS" role like OOTB. Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

In IOM privileges are mapped with the administrator roles and not with business roles. Also, before the PS3, you cannot create a custom admin roles. If you want to provide these try restricted permission Helpdesk Admin role. This default role is " Activate/disable/Lock/Unlock/reset password" capabilities. Also, to limit / provide additional privileges use, OES Auth policy to Help desk admin role.

You can assign this role to the user admin, using the api RoleManager via a custom event handler or a planner.

  • My connection no longer works on my laptop

When I tried to connect this morning my password does not work and the Enter key is to add something to the password. How can I fix it?

    Thanks for the tips

Although you can set up your Mac to connect automatically to your account without password, your computer will be more secure if you use one. Of course, there is a slight risk that a day will come when this password does not work, you have changed your Mac somehow that is hostile to the password or you have been negligent. Or you can simply forget what is your password, which can happen if you use a standard account for everyday tasks and have not touched the Administrators account in awhile.

Fortunately, if you have lost your password, there are several approaches that you can take to regain full access to your Mac or, at least, get the specific data you need. Here are some tips to do just that.

    Reset your password

Apple includes several options for resetting passwords in OS X. The approaches I saw below depending on how much you currently have access to your Mac.

    Change from an admin account

To maximize the security of your Mac, you should have an administrator account for administrative tasks as a standard account you are using for your identity primary (you can still perform administrative tasks from your main account by is authenticating with the credentials of the administrator). If you set up your Mac in this way, you can then log on to the admin account and use the system of preferences users & groups change your main account password.

To do this, click the lock icon in the preferences system users & groups to authenticate, and then click the account that you are unable to connect to. In account settings, click the reset password button to change the password of the account.

    Use single-user mode

Every Mac has a main user called "root" account which is the system account that is used to launch the substantive services required for your Mac to operate. While this account is usually hidden and inaccessible, you can quickly get to it for its administrative capacity by booting your Mac in single user mode.

To continue, you will need to know the short name of the account for which you want to reset the password, and then perform the following steps:

    • Restart your Mac and press command-S at the boot of carillon.
    • When you see the command prompt, enter the following command to put the boot in reading drive and writing mode:

    mount -uw /

    • Now, run the following command to load Open Directory (directory service account Apple OS x):

    launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist

    • Reset the password for your user account by entering the following command (replace "username" with the short name of the desired account)

    passwd username

    Use an Apple ID

In OS X, you can link your user account to your Apple ID and then use it to reset your OS X password if you have lost. This feature requires first of all that you have associated with your Apple ID, which can be done from the users & groups system preferences and then clicking on the Set button beside the words Apple ID and then provide your Apple ID and password. You can then enable the option to reset your password using an identifier to Apple. (If you see instead a button change beside the entrance of Apple ID, your ID is already attached.)

Enter an incorrect password three times and you will be asked for an Apple ID. With this configuration, you can reset your password by entering the wrong password three times on the login screen, which will call a sign that invites you to reset the account password using your Apple ID. Follow the on-screen instructions and you should be able to change your password and then sign in to your account. Note that the options I present you here, it should preserve the link to your keychain, allowing you to continue to work seamlessly with your new password, without having to store other passwords to your keychain again.

    Use the Recovery Mode

A final option to reset your password is to use Apple recovery tools. This may be the best approach in most cases and can be done with the following procedure:

    1. Reboot into recovery or recovery of the Internet now command + R to start mode.
    2. Choose Terminal from the Utilities menu.
    3. Enter resetpassword (one word and lowercase) in the Terminal window and press return.
    4. Select your boot drive in the utility that displays.
    5. Select your user account from the context menu.
    6. Click the button to reset the account password and provide a new when you are prompted.

If you use FileVault encryption with your Mac, the password reset utility will not display your boot drive up to what first unlock you it with disk utility. To do this, open utility disk where you will see your drive in gray in the list of devices. Select it and click on the button of toolbar to unlock and then after you provide your password to unlock the drive, you can select your drive in the password reset utility.

    Recovering your data

The options I have mentioned will help you reset your password and login to your account. However, if you cannot yet enter your Mac due to a lost or forgotten password there a way to get some data out of it. In this way is target disk mode.

Target disk mode allows you to access your Mac as an external hard drive, as long as you don't have active FileVault or a firmware password on your Mac. If you have FileVault is active and that you don't remember either your password to unlock the drive or the recovery key, then you will not be able to recover all the data from it. In this case, your best bet is to recover your data from a backup.

For using target disk mode, reboot the Mac you want to access and hold the "T" key when you hear the chimes boot. Connect the Mac to another via a FireWire cable or a bolt of lightning and its hard disk should appear as an external drive to your second Mac. From there, you can manually copy data from disk or use Apple Migration Assistant or setup tools Wizard to transfer your data.

While you should be able to browse all files on the drive mode target disk, there may be a few times when this is impossible, either due to restrictions of permissions or because the files are hidden. To remedy this, you can select the drive mounted via target disk mode, press command-I to produce the drive Info window and activate the option ignore permissions on the volume (at the bottom of the information window). To manage the hidden files, you can temporarily show all files in the Finder of your current Mac by running the following command in the OS X Terminal application:

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool TRUE; killall Finder

When you have finished to access these files, hide your files again using this Terminal command:

defaults delete com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles; killall Finder

    A refuge

As much as retrieve or reset a forgotten password can look like a bother, it's a small inconvenience which is entirely forged from scratch by a Mac, protected by a strong password. Ideally, you will never need to turn to these techniques. But the bad thing happened, it is good to know that you have so much relief.

  • Why should I authenticate all my moves and name changes

  • I changed my apple on my macbook pro, now I can't connect my mini mac ID. Any ideas anyone?

    Hi people,

seems that I myself lost in the ICloud/Apple ID implemented the system here. I changed my Apple on my Macbook Pro (mid-2014 running El Capitan 10.11.5) ID and now can't log in to my Mac mini. The new password set up on the Macbook Pro is not recognized on the Mini and I can't seem to login screen to study. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried the old password on the Mini?

I've never used an iCloud password to connect to my Mac as he seemed always destined to fail. It seems also Apple removed this possibility, but this does not affect those who made possible it. If you manage to get back in and somehow change the password, you cannot use the password to iCloud.

I don't know if this will help, but you can reset the password to a different admin login, if you have a.

    Otherwise, start in Recovery.

From the Utilities menu, choose Terminal.

Type the following command and press return

    ResetPassword

A utility opens when you select the hard disk and a user account, and then reset the password.

Quit the utility, and then restart when finished.

This will not change your Keychain password. You should try the old password or reset the keychain, thus losing all of your passwords.

I don't know how an iCloud password affects the connection ring, however.

    Hello Gail Rooney,

I'm not 100% sure if you are referring to your account admin on your Mac, if you were not made me know that I would love to help with anything that anyone else. Anyway, if you need to reset your password for your admin account, so you can leave Flash Player just install, follow these steps and you should be able to reset the password of the admin account. You need to restart your computer. Then, press the command and R keys at the same time when the gray screen appears and hold them until you see the Apple logo. A low loading bar will appear under the logo. Then wait for the recovery mode to load click the utilities tab in the menu bar, select Terminal, type resetpassword, and press ENTER. Close the Terminal window and behind it, you will find the password reset utility. Everything you have to do now is to select the user account you want to reset, enter a new password or leave the field empty and click Save. Then reboot again and sign in to your account admin with the password you just put.
