resize the disk/diskgroup LUN and asm

Happy new year to all.

I have a little problem of resizing an ASM diskgroup and maybe someone here can help me.

I had a lun with size 50G and added on a disk called LUN1D1 asm.
Then I created a DISKGROUP called data1 Witch (external) contain some LUN1D1.
Data1 is then conducted asm volume. So I have a volume of asm with size 50G and I need 100 g.

Now, I have increased the size of the lun with 50 G (100G in total). I rescaned the LUN and os see the new size.

The problem is that I can't resize DISKGROUP data1 or disk LUN1D1.

    I understand what you say, I have created a disk of asm with 500 MB of size using asmtool, so I can't resize using asm instance.

    1. What is the use of asmtool-added option, we can add an existing using this command drive space?

    This isn't for adding space, but it adds the label to the disk partition...
    asmtool - add \Device\Harddisk1\Partition1 ORCLDISKASM0
    >

    2 can you please explain this more, * it could be increased if you already held 300 total asm 500 disk space *?

    Think like OS, you have created a 10 GB partition for disk D:\ example. And now, you create files/folders with size of hugh (as some movies ;)) to drive D:\, so eventually your drive D:\ will fill. This is the case even with your asm disk, once you have used all your available space of the asm disk (that you created through asmtoll), you can not increase.
    By asmtool - create D:\Asm_disks\disk3 500, you assign the total size to 300 from the asm disk. Just as you add 10 GB partition for OS...

    You come to the backup from my point of view: it could be increased if you already worked 300 asm disk space total 500

    I have created the disk with the following text:
    asmtool - create 500 D:\Asm_disks\disk3 > size is 500

    I create diskgroup with
    SQL > create diskgroup DB 'D:\Asm_disks\disk3' size disc 300; > Here I wll use only max 300 size of 500 total. So once I get to the threshold of 300, I can increase the asm disk up to 500.
    As
    SQL > alter diskgroup DB resizing disk "D:\Asm_disks\disk3' size 500; > Increasing up to 500

    Default if the clause you SIZE omit while creating a diskgroup, asm then disc occupies all the available space of the device that you have created by asmtool

    >

    3. What is meant occupation here, not here where we can control the right of occupancy?

    We can control as I explained.

  • Error: the capacity of the disk virtual parent and the child disk capacity are different (67).

    Hello

    I tried to increase the hard drive of a machine space of 10 GB for a 20 GB virtual linux. I closed down the VM, then ssh was in the ESXi server. From there on, I ran the command:

    vmkfstools x 20 G Apatite.vmdk

    The command was executed successfully. Then, when I turned on the virtual machine I had and still do me:

    Reason: The capacity of the disk virtual parent and the child disk capacity are different.

    I tried many things such as the cloning of the Apatite.vmdk of Apatite - repaired.vmdk. That works, however, I get an old version of the virtual machine. I do not receive my changes of Apatite - 000001.vmdk or Apatite-000001 - delta.vmdk.

    I have a very important job on my VM that I am restoring. I should have backed up before doing anything else I've done. Now, it seems that I pay the price.

    Can someone help me get my VM? Is it possible to increase the size of the snapshot (Apatite - 000001.vmdk) or reduce the size of the parent so that they match, and the virtual machine start?

  • cannot resize the disk on a virtual machine

    Hello!

    I have a little problem, I can not resize the size of the disk on some of my virtual machines.

    I tried yesterday on two and worked well, tried to day (different vm) and it does not work so well for me.

    I first stop the virtual machine, rightklick, change the size to 20 GB, 4 GB and press OK.

    When I then rightklick on the virtual machine after pushing OK the size is always 4 GB (I don't mean in VI client for Windows).

    Why? workaround solution?

    Thnx for help.

    My computer crashed so I had to use my recovery disks that are about 8-10 years. • vCD API - how to call updateDisks to resize the disks of a virtual machine?

    Had to think about where to post this question; vCD forums or here. I chose here because it's the API specific vCO for vCD and not versions of Java/.NET working team of vCD.

    I'm going to build a workflow to allow my team to change the size of a disk. This disk is part of a virtual machine that vCloud Director 'property '. I heard several times to not only change the size of the disk in vCenter as then vCD runs a risk of being confused. I have reviewed the vCO API for the vCD and found that the VclVM object contains the set of disks (VclVM.disks) as a property. This returns an array of VclVirtualDisk. There is a method VclVM.updateDisks (VclVirtualDisk []), which seems to do exactly what I want. Update disk sizes (could be used to add new facilities). I have a bit of a problem to find how to call it from my point of departure.

    // selectedDisk: a string selected by the user
    // selectedDiskSize: a number input by the user

    var disks = virtualMachine.disks;

    for (var i = 0; i < disks.length; i++)
    {

         if (selectedDisk == disks[i].itemResource.elementName.value)
         {
              if (selectedDiskSize <= disks[i].hardDiskSize)
              {
                   throw "New disk size (" + selectedDiskSize + ") must be larger than original disk size (" +
                        disks[i].hardDiskSize + ")";
              }

              disks[i].hardDiskSize = selectedDiskSize;
         }
    }

    virtualMachine.updateDisks(disks);

    'HardDiskSize' the call throws an error. It is a property read-only and is not a method. The API documentation don't do a good job to define all the methods where I can build a new VclVirtualDisk object. or clone an existing one.

    My thought was to update the existing structures of the disc and then pass them to the updateDisks (...) method. Yes, change an internal structure of an object from the outside is not something I should be doing.

    Any suggestions on how to "clone" this VclVirtualDisk object to change?

    If someone of the vCD of the vCO API team is looking, even updateDisks (...) method will do what I want? Or I have to watch fall down to Java to achieve?

    Thank you!

    If I remember correctly the ability to change the size of an existing drive is not available in API vCD 1.01.

    Christophe.

  • VConverter resizes the disk?

    Hi all

    I want a physical machine with 243 GB drive to an ESX3.0. The server does not have enough space (156GB) so I lowered the size of the disk with the option "size of destination."

    This would result in a 113 GB virtual drive (see image) - but Yikes, vConverter says "the file system does not support files like this great"...

    The output of vmkfstools - P says it has 1 MB block size so if I understand correctly, it must support up to 256 GB of files...

    $ / usr/sbin/vmkfstools Pei/vmfs/volumes/storage1 /.

    VMFS file system - 3.21 spanning 2 partitions.

    File system label (if applicable): storage1

    Mode: public

    I'm doing something wrong?

    Karel

    elkarel,

    at face value, restriction of file size is target support more than 2 GB of files on the volume.  You have a volume of external storage to test with?

    I want to move a physical machine with 243 GB drive to an ESX3.0

    You actually use ESX 3.0 with the latest version of VMware Converter?  I think that Converter standalone v4.3 has decreased for 3.0.x which means you will need to use the Converter 4.0.1.

    We also use, with some older versions of ESX and converter, to require double the amount of free space on the destination volume.  I think that has been resolved in the 4.0.0 Converter but I could be wrong.

    In addition, there was a problem earlier on the destination volume real itself.  It seems that local storage is used, but is stride across volumes (which is not very good).  There was only one conversion in NFS and the NFS Volume rejected files over 2 GB or something like that.

  • Resize the disk / Snapshots

    Hello

    a customer is running VMWare Server 1.0.1 which has been implemented with a 2 GB system partition (drive C :) an 8 GB partition extended (drive d). Comment system is XP Pro, System host is Server 2003. I now have to increase disk space in the virtual machine. But my client system seems to have instant (there are a xxx - 000001.vmdk file and a xxx.vmss), but seems fine, it just be expanded.

    Could someone please tell me step by step what to do whith instant and resize this system so that there is a 2 GB C: drive and a D: 40 GB drive? I'm obviously for blind to figure this out (and am new to VMWare).

    Thanks a lot for your help!

    There's our snapshot Manager 1.x. You chose the menu to the right to remove the snapshot (see page 116: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/server_vm_manual.pdf)

    Make a backup of all files in the th eguest. Create a new snapshot, little time to use it and delete it. Then delete all snapshots.

    I have a relatively new W530 with the installed at the factory 16GB drive HARD drive cache and the ExpressCache software (working properly according to the Lenovo-recommended test). I want to know if the drive activity light shows HD activity only or also SDS hides.

    My observation is that for a long time the drive activity light is on permanently. The first time that this has happened, the warranty support told me that the HD failed and sent me a new. (They don't seem to know anything on the internal tables of health HD I thought existed and could be interrogated with a special software). Anyway, this seemed to solve the problem for a few months, but it is recurring lately.

I stopped this service and set it to manual, and the constant activity stopped shortly after. He has not re-emerged in the last hour or two.
