Restore backup to Time Capsule

I got my iMac reinstalled and at the same time, updated to OS X El Capitan.

After connecting to the network and my time Machine, I tried to restore the last backup before reinstalling.

I can connect to my Time Capsule via Time Machine, but trying to open the disk image following warning appears:

Image: XXX iMac.sparsebundle

Reason: Resource temporarily unavailable.

I tried to restart both my iMac and my Time Capsule

Thank you

Henrik

Connect the TC directly on the Mac in ethernet... disable wireless... There still need to be connected to the internet too long that the TC is configured as a router.

Try again.

You use migration assistant right?

I did all my backups on TIme Capsule. My hard drive crashed while I replaced it. I am now trying to restore my latest backup, but the message I get is that my backup is bigger than my hard drive. Any solution for this?

    Thank you!

Sorry, but you will not be able to fully restore from a Time Machine backup except if your Mac has a hard drive that is big enough to cope.

If you can not install a larger hard drive in the Mac, then your only other option would be to use the Migration Wizard on a Mac and only fly over the Documents and other data... not the Applications and other system files.

I have an IMac with time machine and time capsule. If I buy a large external hard drive can back up all my Lightroom Info but also everything else to go to time machine, & that it saves on hard drive new, after he made a backup to time capsule?  This way, I would have two backups.

    Hi marinersr,

I'm not sure the backup machine capsule/time, but according to me, that it backs up all data on your hard drive.

Yes, you can back up the Lightroom catalog on the hard disk external.

You can set the time of the backup under the catalog settings > backup > he would invite to the backup, when you exit Lightroom > click on select next to the location and specify the location as your new hard drive.

If you want images of both original backup, you can configure to create a second copy of the images on your external drive during import.

  • PC Backup with time capsule

I have a windows 7 PC, I want to save on Time Capsule.  I installed Airport utility and can see the Z disk.  What I can't do, is make the Z drive to appear as a backup option.  Suggestions?  Thank you

If you try to make a backup of backup MS in win7 so it won't work if it's the original... only pro or ultimate version... For some strange reason MS consider home version to do no need to work at network resources...

I highly recommend the purchase of a... decent backup software which can backup to network drives.

The starting point is you can create a directory on the TC drive and copy files to it?

Don't worry about backups until you know that you have all permissions to copy files.

Please note... recovering from a TC is going to be as hard as making backups.

A PC on a NTFS formatted USB disk plugged directly into the PC for trouble free restore backup... If you plan to use storage-based network buy a good NAS... you use a TC and find yourself in trouble if you need it.

  • I can't access the backups on Time Capsule

A month ago I deleted from my hard drive and more. I have a MacBook Pro 2012 running macOS. I can't access the files on Time Capsule before is erased in the month of August, I can see the story in the timeline panel, but I don't have access to anything before erasure. Is it possible to access to the files before the wipe?

A month ago I deleted from my hard drive and more.

What hard drive you are talking about: one internal on your MacBook Pro (MBP), an external drive attached to the MBP for Time Machine backups, or internal hard drive to time Capsule?

  • Restoration of 132GB Time Capsule to my Mac iTunes

My playlists in iTunes have become corrupt (don't know why).

I need to restore an older copy of iTunes from Time Machine on my Time Capsule.

iTunes is 132GB - is it be possible (and desirable) to restore using a cable to my Mac at the time Capsule, rather than wireless?

    Thank you

If you have portable AC and TC is ca version it should be pretty fast... but the ethernet is always better... and if you have older slower equipment then ethernet it will fly.

  • Encryption of the existing backups on Time Capsule

I have old backups on my TC since 2009. I need them and I don't want to lose them. But I also want to encrypt and have access to all backups in Time Machine, because of private and confidential data. This procedure might work?

    • Open the Time Machine pane in system preferences.
    • Turn off time Machine then click on the button "Select Disk... ».
    • Remove your current backup disk.
    • Then, simply select the drive as your backup once more and check the option "Encrypt backups" and enter a password for the backup. Apple will now encrypt the entire disk backup - including your previous backups.
    • Finally, turn on Time Machine, and you're all set!

    http://www.mactrast.com/2013/07/how-to-public-how-to-encrypt-time-machine-backup s-with-os-x.

    Thank you!

In theory, this will work.  In the practice, this work probably, but... and that's a very big BUT... it's going to take forever and a day to encrypt all the backups of the old man, which is something that the article forgot to mention.

Even if you have your Mac connected to time Capsule using an Ethernet cable... it will take days and perhaps more than a week for the initial process to complete, depending on the amount of data you have on the Time Capsule.

A lot can go wrong over the days and days of a backup, so if you decide to try this... Make sure you have at least a copy or an Archive... of all the data on the Time Capsule disk... before... .you start the encryption process.

  • New backup on Time Capsule

My Time Capsule was fortunately automatically back up since September 2013 using Time Machine and is full by far. However, Time Machine this week said that a new backup should be created. I created this, and after about 24 hours, the new backup is complete. Time Machine now says that the oldest backup is the one that has just finished. This isn't a problem and everything seems to be in order, but I was wondering if this had happened to someone else (and why is it) and there is something to fear?

    Thank you very much.

    Concerning

    Doug

What you describe, it seems that you could see a message that looks like this:

This message appears when your previous backups were corrupted and not enough to use stable. Utility of disc on your Mac has tried to repair the damage, but he couldn't, so the old files must be deleted and started a new backup.

I hope that you will not see this message again, because the same thing will be happening everywhere if it appears.

  • Drive external drive to backup to time capsule

I use my Time Capsule to back up my computer automatically, but I would also like to use as a backup to my external hard drive. How can I implement that? I tried dragging the files into the Capsule of time on the Finder and it does not allow me to do.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Any drive connected to your Mac can be included in the backup Time Machine.

Go to the preferences of TM and remove the exclusion of an external drive... which will add to the backup.

    Alternatives are also good.

I highly recommend to use Carbon Copy Cloner... which is $ 40

You can copy and paste the files, but it is better to first create a folder on the TC.

Don't drag the files in the root directory.

Drag the files into the sparsebundle TM.

Make sure you that you get TC drive in finder yourself... otherwise you ruin the backup TM.

  • I have a padlock on my backups in Time Capsule.

Time Machine has obviously done a check on my Time Capsule to improve reliability.

He put a padlock on the backup and now it is inaccessible for time machine.

I have the last AirportTC is running the latest firmware - v7.7.3.

Does anyone know why it does this?

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards

It's never a good day when you see this message.

... Verification process that takes place on a regular basis... detected that your backup files have been corrupted, tried to fix them, but that he could not complete the process.

Thus, Time Machine will clear all your old backups and start a new backup. Why the files are damaged to some users and not others is something that Apple has not been able to answer.

I hope that the message does not yet appear in the future, but you never know with Time Machine.

  • Adding redundancy backup with time Capsules

Are there problems associated with adding a second time Capsule to my system in order to add additional redundancy and safety of my backup options? I have a MacBook Pro and a single Capsule of 3 TB. I am looking for a non-Cloud option add extra security while maintaining the automation of the OSX TimeMachine.

Adding a second Time Capsule works perfectly.  After that Time Machine performs a full backup of your Mac (s) on the new Time Capsule, it automatically alternates between two time Capsules backups.

If you have the possibility of adding a USB or FireWire drive directly to your Mac, which would be a bit better set up in terms of reliability of time Machine, but probably not very convenient if you have a laptop that is moving all the time.

  • Backup to Time Capsule and an external hard drive

    Hi all

For several years, I use as a router Time Capsule and a backup device. Recently I found information about to associate an additional external hard drive for backup. For me it's a backup just to be sure when my Time Capsule would fail.

I found information on the internet that it was easy to switch between the two devices. I connected the external hard drive in the time Capsule.

But after installing the external hard drive my Time Capsule is not able to back up more!

Please, could you help me find a solution. It would be great for me.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Diana

I suggest that you get first back ups goes again on the Time Capsule, then we can discuss adding the USB key as a second backup source.

For now, if please power off the power and unplug the USB of the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences, then open Time Machine

Make sure that Time Machine is running

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup drives, make sure that the Time Capsule disk (named 'Data', unless you have changed the name) appears

If it isn't, then click data under available disks

    Then, click on disk use

Close the window and now, click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen

Click on NTI Backup Now and who should get backups start on the Time Capsule

After the return when you have confirmed that this is the case

  • Time capsule and errors to restore backups

I'm trying to restore different backups of 2 macbooks by using the migration wizard and finder, but I do get rather a warning message that the disk image could not be opened because there is no file system mountable or that the operation has been exceeded.

Otherwise, when I try to backup using time machine on the space remaining (1 TB) disk 2 TB of the time capsule, I repeatedly get the message that: "' Time Machine has conducted an audit of the backups on 'Time Capsule'." To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup"' when I click on"start new Backup ".

Any chance to access and retrieve the data stored on this disk?

    Thank you.

Once a backup Time Machine is corrupted, it is extremely difficult to recover. If you click on this message... TM will delete the existing backup and start over.

What model is the TC you use? Is it Gen4 or earlier... That is to say a flat one. If this is the case, you can remove the hard drive and put it in a door - and maybe access backup directly from the computer. If it's a Gen5... tall, then you will a lot more difficult. The hard drive is not easy to get out and it is very easy to damage the cable that connects the drive of TC in the plate.

    See https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Time_Capsule

You can always try to recover from the Finder. How successful will be depends entirely on suite corrupt how backups are.

Someone has worked hard to extract their data and published some useful information that I kept at hand.

Difficulty corrupted backup TM. Re: backup Time Machine stalls after upgrade of El Capitan

    (1) disable Time Machine.

    (2) judgment of all index Spotlight (mdutil d - a).

    (3) destroy all Spotlight indexes (rm - rf /.) Spotlight - V100) manually.

    (4) fix a problem of permission of system files with Spotlight (removed a bunch of files belonged to a non-existent user in a subfolder/private/var/folders Spotlight created). No idea how they got there, but they were there, and newspapers are complaining about them causing a fatal error.

    (5) index Spotlight the reactivation and let them build entirely.

    (6) re - run a backup Time Machine original.

Unfortunately at the time where you get the message about corrupt backups, it is too late...

It will be a bigger and bigger problem... and I'm encouraging people to rely not on TM of the way in which they may have had in the past. I use a secondary backup to TM system... Carbon Copy clone... CCC, which performs a backup much more simple... a direct clone... It is much less likely to be corrupt and can be instantly tested by booting from the clone (using USB) external to it.

  • What wireless network for Time Capsule backups?

Just installed a new Capsule of time at home. The time Capsule is a wireless router, and I can connect all my devices wirelessly to the Network Time capsule wireless. I still 2 other active wireless networks because I use 2 additional wireless routers for access anywhere in the House. All three of my wireless networks are created from the same internet modem. I want to confirm is whether or not my Mac can be connected to one of the 3 networks for automatic backups on the Time Capsule wireless? Or is the Mac must be connected to the network of the time Capsule for automatic backups to time capsule wireless? Thanks in advance for your help.

    The same as the TC.

Set the other to extend the network of transport CANADA instead of create a network.
