  • Hi, windows 7 Disk Defragmenter problems daily schedule set for all discs, never happens, it sometimes takes weeks

Hi, windows 7 Disk Defragmenter problems daily schedule set for all discs, never happens, it sometimes takes weeks. Have a disk busy on the farm that is used for the storage of video surveillance. When I realize the performance issues, I check and find tht 'daily' Setup for MS disk defragmentation is not in fact run every day. I am watching silent movies and waiting for a 500 GB drive to effectively defragment, pass it is on average 1 percent per minute (with any other IO goes on the disc and app collection closed).

There must be (I hope) a flag I can put to Disk Defragmenter to be more aggressive in its analysis.

It is Windows 7 64 bit running on AMD processors, disks are sATA plugged in, although there is also a matrix RAID PCI Promise, it's usually when I started Hello I/O on the Board of 2 TB or utilization of the 'C', I realize the lack of defragmentation. I recall, before the SP1 under WIN 7, he ran on a daily basis, in fact, rather than an API algorith "guess".

System is in place 24 x 7 (I turn off the monitor at the time of sunset), there is no "powersaver" feature used on this particular device. I edited my original question because after many years of support, I realized, by asking the initial question, that I was not providing information that I would be asked a customer, if I was still doing this job.

    Kind regards

    Hello Lorin,

There are several reasons why the built-in Defragmenter may not work correctly:

Method 1: He is also a malware on the system. Solution: Run an anti-virus control and also a spyware check.

I suggest you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: During the scan of the hard drive if bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair this sector, all available on which data may be lost.

Method 2: The disk is too full (you need at least 15% free space, sometimes 20%). Solution: Delete files unnecessary and programs until you have more than 20% free space.

    Delete files using disk cleanup

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

Method 3: The disc is damaged and must be repaired. Solution:

    a. open "Computer" and right-click on the drive that you want to disable frag.

    b. Select 'Properties' and click on 'tools '.

    c. Select "Check now" to check the drive for errors.

    d. Select the two options and click on 'start '.

Check your hard drive for errors

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Important: While running chkdsk (check disk) hard disk, if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk attempts to repair this sector, the data available in this area may be lost, and it is not recoverable.

(This can take time and can restart the PC so that it can do the check at boot time. Be patient and let it complete).

Method 4: Disk Defragmenter may be corrupted, requiring a system restore to fix.

    System restore

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/system-restore

NOTE: When you use system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, the programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

Method 5: There are other programs that are running this interruption, the built-in Defragmenter. Solution:

    a. close all running programs.

    b. If you think there may be some programs that run in the background.

    c. press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and

    d. Select "start Task Manager".

    e. under the 'Applications' tab, you will find a list of all running applications - you can close these by selecting "end task."

  • System Restore Windows 8 has been restoring for almost 2 hours. How long should it take?

New windows machine 8. Installed AVG anti-virus requiring a reboot. It wouldn't restart. Kept giving me the dpc_watchdog... error. (more & on & above) So I chose to do a system restore to last Friday. I saw him start & I left the room for a while.  He has been restoring for almost 2 hours now. I noticed the "finalizing" file restore less than an hour ago. Is this normal? I have to do something else?

    Hi Marcia,

I understand that the system restore takes a long time to restore your computer.

System restore usually takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the data has changed since the date of the restoration up to the date where the restoration is underway.
If the computer is blocked, do a hard reset. Press the power button for about 10 seconds. Once the computer shuts down, stop and try again and follow the steps.

Follow the steps mentioned below and perform a restore of the system from the Windows recovery environment. Check if it helps.

    (a) Insert the disc to install 8 Windows; Click on repair your system.
    (b) click the Advanced Boot Options.
    (c) click Start Windows settings.
    (d) If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
((e) (f) If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on system restore.
    (f) click about to restore during which the system worked very well.
    (g) click on apply, click OK.

Hope this helps and let us know if you need more assistance. We will be happy to help.

    Hi all

As far as I know on the Toshiba store (the link you posted) you can order recovery for recent laptops disk they were delivered without disc but I don't know m.

Anyway, if a new drive online, you can order t you must contact the local ASP. They should be able to order a disc for you.

Hi, I bought a windows xp disk Professional Microsoft a few years ago but never used it how can I cd key for the disc

If you bought a copy the retail of Windows key should be included in the box.

How to get a replacement product key

    Retail Windows:
If you have lost a product key for the software you purchased separately from your computer, or if your product key does not work, call Microsoft. To locate the phone number, visit the following Microsoft Web site: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh; CNTACTMS

A fee may apply for lost keys.

  • After a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now. Also lost system tools/options.

Original title: after a virus, I've lost the system restore for cannot defragment now

I had a virus which caused problems one of the minor being I've lost the system tools. It now says its empty when I open it.

You don't need system defragmentation tools.

You can defragment from the hard drive, then right-click of your hard drive, properties, tools, defragment now.

Of course, you must fix your missing tools too.

Here's the easiest way I know (thank you, Ramesh):

    http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/accessories.htm

Part of the answer to the technical support engineer Microsoft does not too which make me think that the MSE has never actually tested this Board to see if it actually works or not.  It's a shame.

In addition, these shortcuts are not part in the folder in any case.  These things must go in the folder for all users - if you don't want your XP to be ignored.  It is a source of embarrassment.

I don't know what you used to remove the virus, but I could do that at some point (soon):

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:
    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.
  • Where can I get a real installation of XP Home product key for purchased disc?

I have an installation disc at home XP genuine, purchased in a 3 pack for OEM installation, but I lost the certificate of authenticity for this disc (other installed and sticker placed on the PC when sold)-this version has been installed on a PC for the family, but now synonymous with failure of the HARD drive I want to re - install the new HARD drive - where can I get a valid COA / product key for this drive?

    MS sells more than XP.

Very few legitimate copies of XP OEM in the wild no longer exists, there is probably more counterfeits out there than the real ones, so be VERY careful about your source.

MS has never sold key without which accompanies the software and or forge anyone.

All above mean them that it is likely that (assuming that the certificate of authenticity for this machine is lost/illegible), it may be easier to upgrade the computer to Win7 or replace it completely.

  • Change the default format for burning discs of this system active files in the ISO image format

How can I change the default format for burning discs of this system of active files to ISO image format?  I don't want the active file as the default system and really don't want to have to choose what I want to use the default every time.  It's boring. I have Vista x 64 on my computer and have not yet adapted to all the changes in XP.

Thanks, but it's not useful.  It is more that an 'improvement' Microsoft did that, as I fear, is a total and far failure to be an improvement.  It also means that I'll just use a 3rd party program to burn all my CD/DVDs.  You know if I wanted to be able to remove, reformat, etc.. CD/DVD I would use those rewritable.  That's why they exist.

  • Restore for virtual machines recovered steps

    Hello

I just read the Administrator's guide and some documents of advantage seller 3rd on the reconfiguration of the SRM of the restoration for use in a production design.

I noticed that there are steps in the Administrator's guide to close all virtual machines that have been recovered to recovery as part of a failover of completed site (see attachment).  The steps will guide you to delete files in VM reserved space on the table and delete files/directories in vCenter on the recovering site that contains the configuration files of virtual machine created during the creation of a protection group.

That means that if you were running a 'assisted restoration' you need a system failure to recover all the virtual machines for the time to complete all the tasks of reconfiguration and automatic restore of test?  Is that correct or is it just a cut and paste from the evaluation guide where we don't care about system failures because it is eval?

We use EMC CLARiiON systems for storage and I have gone through the H5583-VMware_Site_Recovery_Manager_with_EMC_CLARiiON_CX3_and_MirrorViewS_Implementation (see attachment) - this document does not mention any of these steps at all.

Can anyone who has been successfully complete a review of restoration?

Surely files in VM reserved space on the storage array and folders/directories in vCenter can be removed after the restore is complete, in this way, all changes can be made when retrieving VMs are on the rise and running and no downtime will be experienced by the company? -is that not what the result you want in this situation?

Look forward to your opinion on this subject.

    Craig.

    Hi Craig

The word of Chad is the deadline and this point, but subject to change, is June

It is certainly not a flaw to make the functionality available to the general public at that time - but teams of engineers are looking to this kind of delay

    Hope that helps

Hi, I am using lenovo G470. My laptop came with Win 7 installed, but without the installation CD.

I would like to know if the creation of recovery using OneKey Recovery disks (using the factory settings, works with 3 DVDs) is equivalent to the creation of floppy disks to install Windows 7 for my laptop?

My goal is to have a few discs that I use to reformat or install the laptop in case if the operating system has crashed or seriously infected by viruses (or just in case where I seriously messed up my laptop OS)

    Thank you

    Yes.
OKR creates discs to restore your computer
State of origin (plant), as it was when new.

Mainly used to recover from a crashed hard drive.

(Edit: when you install a new hard drive)

OKR button is what you use to serious problems
to restore the factory State, or a backup that you created.

Also Windows has built in restoring the system to several minor issues.
In addition, you can create a System Image in Windows
    Backup and Restore Center.

Several ways to protect your computer!
