Restore the Printer Spooler service file

All the printer drivers on my Dell computer have disappeared. When I tried to reinstall I got a message that the printer spool service is not working. I tried Mr. Fixit and other suggestions. No work. I get a message that the file is not found. Anyone know how I can restore this file?

Hello

Try to manually start the service of click Start-> Run, type & -> services.msc-> right-> print spooler. Double-click Print Spooler-> click Start-> select Auto menu drop-down.

If give you the error, try to replace spoolsv.exe is located in C:\windows\system32 in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386.

I hope this helps.

Click on the Start button and select Control Panel, administrative tools, Services. Locate the print spooler service in the list and make sure that the startup type is automatic. If it is not set to automatic, right-click and select Properties, general tab. There is a box after the startup type. • Error 2: The system cannot find the specified file. Even after restarting the Printer Spooler service

I tried all of the suggestions posted and have had no success in restarting my print spooler. Help, please.

Original title: I tried to restart the print spooler as directed, and he returned the error 2: the system cannot find the specified file. He does that and is it fixable?

@Winston Microsoft M committed Support Engineer 'expert '.

I can see your response that you did take the time to reproduce the problem and then try your own ideas to check if the problem persists.

Here is what I suggest to you, so you can learn how XP actually works:

Start in the XP Recovery Console or Safe Mode, so Windows File Protection does not run.

Rename your file c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe you can remember (such as spoolsv.bak).  Now, the file is "absent".

    Restart normally.

Then try to start the Print Spooler Service and you will see the error.

So why don't you follow your own advice and run SFC and troubleshooting automated (as you suggested) and check if the problem persists.

    Please report your results.

When you see that it does help and that SFC does not replace the missing or damaged file (in the system32 folder) and that the automated troubleshooter does not help, will sing it a different song (we hope).

Don't forget to rename your spoolsv.bak to spoolsv.exe when you're done messing around autour.

  • The Print Spooler Service is not running. Operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 3.

I followed the suggestion to use start > Control Panel > administration tool > services > print spooler > properties.

System in automatic mode but State of the said service stopped.

I get error 1075: the dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

Printer worked this AM, but stopped working between two print jobs.

I used Mr. Fixit to diagnose and fix the problem. Mr. Fixit indicates the print spooler service is not running, but cannot fix it.

I'll be back of the travel.  I'm after the suggestion of CARI.  Seems to be the right track.

My print spooler system component is missing from the remote procedure call.  If I restore it, I think that the print spooler is reactive.  Suggestions of curry hit Start, Program Files, accessories and they type net start spooler.  However, after the departure, I don't see any Program Files, so am unable to complete the suggested path.

  • Windows must now restart because the print spooler service terminated unexpectedly

I have a PC running on Windows Vista professional that I had for about a year with two printers that have also been all this time, a HP LaserJet 1000 and an Epson SX105.

This morning, amid a series of PDFs (separate files) printing on LaserJet printers, I suddenly had the following pop-up message:

"Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed".

On the Control Panel, I found that my two printers have apparently disappeared.  My first reaction was just close and restart the computer, often kind of seeds.

To restart, I tried to print again, but I was told that I had to install a printer.  Trying to install a printer, I learned that I could not because of a problem with the spooler.  I looked online to find a solution and one that suits (without touching the registry) seemed to be to check the operation of via Control Panel's print spooler, and then restart.  Oh dear.  What a mistake!  I did this and found that the printers have reappeared, but then about 30 seconds later, I got the following pop-up message:

"Windows must now restart because the print spooler service terminated unexpectedly.

Each time it restarts the message comes back after less than a minute and restarts on another 30 seconds later, so I have a chance to try a system restore (I installed the last service pack Vista a couple of days), or something else... it's just in a loop of perpetual reboot, I can't stop restarting Windows.

How the hell do I?  (I send this message using my Vista laptop and pray the same problem occur here, too, so I don't have to print anything).

    Hello

Use this method to clear the spooler and then uninstall and reinstall your printer (check with the manufacturer for)
    the latest driver).

Check the Mr Fixit here and if you use the other methods go back and try again later.

  • How to restore the print spooler in the printers/faxes folder in Control Panel

Recently discovered, I can't print because all the information of the printer in my printers and Faxes folder in Control Panel had disappeared.  When I clicked on "Add a printer" it is said "operation could not be performed.  The print spooler service is not running.

When I tried different ways to study or to restore service, it does not appear that the print spooler service is here, so that no printer can be installed.

I would like to know how to fix this problem and get the returned printers in service again.

    Help, please!

Yes, I tried your suggestions.  It was useful, but it didn't completely solve my problem.  The spooler was still missing.

I think that there is something different going on inside the machine, because other funny things started to happen, alarmed me thinking that there is some hidden virus eating away at the system code!

I ran MS security scan several times and also McAfee Security Suite.  Security under the full Scan scan found a virus, but it doesn't seem to be the problem after I got Safetly purged, Scan it.  McAfee came up with nothing.

So, the way I finally solved it my problem was to do a full restore from backup, and if the operating system was restored.  In this way, I know that the functions of the printer will be restored, who he was.

Sorry did not had time to review all the details that you suggest, but I was running out of time to try too much, so the "faster" was a system restore as the surest way to get rid of all the problems and restore to the original code.

Thank you, you have been very helpful.

    Hello

    ·        Have you tried the steps that are listed in the article manually and see if the problem is resolved?

    ·        Who is the manufacturer of the printer and what is the model?

    ·        When did you get the error message when you try to install the printer or when you try to print?

I suggest you follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

I suggest you to check if the Printer Spooler service is started.

    a. Click Start and click Run.

    b. type services.msc in the box run.

    c. find the print spooler service and right click on it.

    d. click Properties and verify that the startup type is set to automatic.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

To start in safe mode, follow the steps mentioned below.

    a. restart and keep tapping F8 until you reach the start menu.

    b. Select safe mode and press ENTER.

    Step 2:

In safe mode, delete the printer and spool driver files. To do so, start Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then delete all files and folders in the following two folders (where C: is the drive where you installed Windows XP):

    C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Printers

    C:\Windows\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86

  • The Print Spool Service does not work

I use Windows XP and have 2 printers installed.  I had no problems until recently, when I try to print I get an error message that I need to install a printer.  When I went to control panel to check the status of my printers don't have no installed printer.  When I clicked on the "Add a printer" icon, I received a message that the "Service of Spool of printing does not work.".  I can't find anywhere in the menu helps an answer to this problem.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I must mention that I restore the computer to an earlier time and he has not made a difference.

To activate the Print Spool Service, follow these steps:

    1. click on the Start Menu, click Run, type "services.msc" and press ENTER.

    2. in the Services pane, click on "Alert" and scroll down until you see "print spooler".

    3. click on "Start service" or "Restart Service", as the case may be.

The print spooler service should now be enabled.

Check if the printing problem is resolved.

    Hope this helps

  • printer is not working, "the print spooler service is disabled" when it is not

    Hello

I received a message that my pc required for the loading of driver software for a new unknown device, although I had nothing added.

Now, I find that my printer is not working.

I tried to accept the "locate and install driver software" message, but it does not work.

I tried to uninstall the printer driver so that I can reinstall them, but I get a message that the uninstallation was failure because the print spooler service is disabled.

I checked the print spooler service is set to auto & seems to be on.

Would appreciate any opinion appropriate for a no no very savvy tech.

    Thank you

This could be the reason why you do not see the printer in the Control Panel, printers. Try this, go to control panel, printers, if you see the printer listed to remove it. If you don't see the printer, the service could stop, go to services then and click on "Restart the service" (blue link top left), then go back to printing, its listed hopely now and you can remove it (right click). Now try to reinstall the printer.

If that doesn't work try the system restore, restore to a date when the printer works fine.

    Hello
Please tell us the version of the Windows operating system you are running on your computer.

I'd take a peek at this thread as well. It is specific to Windows 7, but you should be able to many of the same steps apply to Windows Vista or Windows XP if you happen to have one of the people.

  • the print spooler service may not be running

    Hello

I have 4 computers around here, and I'm trying to get a printserver running on one of them, so we have installed windows 2008, set up as a server to printing etc..
Now when I try to add the printer to my computer laptop windows 7, it works perfectly, and is the same for one of the windows xp workstations.
However, when I try to add the printserver on windows server 2003, it starts talking about missing drivers.

The printer is a HP LJCP3505 PCL6, and he is already working on a normal (eg. non-printserver associated) network.
I downloaded almost all the drivers, I could find from the HP website, but whenever I try to add them, it tells me that they are not valid drivers.
and on another computer windows 7, I get the following error message:

Could not connect to the printer.
On the server print spooler service could not be executed.
Restart the spooler or restart the server

(on a side note: it's a translated error message, our systems are not English)

I don't know if they are related, but I checked the print spooler service, and it was fine (auto startup, active etc.).
the same goes for its dependencies.

    Hi LeanderML,

Your question is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for Windows Server on TechNet. Please ask your question in the Forums in Technet Windows Server.

  • "Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running. "(even when it works)

When I click with the right button on a particular printer and try to view the properties of it, I get the following message:

Printer properties cannot be displayed.  The print spooler service is not running

It is, it is run as go to-> Services administrative tools in the Control Panel checks.

One of the 'printers', I installed is "send to OneNote 2007".  I can click right on this very well - just not this another printer. I'd be able to do if the print spooler is not running?

Indeed, if I turn off the print spooler, * all * printer in "Printers and faxes" disappear.  So the fact that I'm still see them first place suggests to me that the printer spooler is running.

I posted this on Microsoft.public.windowsxp.general a while ago and someone suggested that I visit this site .  Problem is C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS is empty.  It is empty when the print spooler is running and it is empty when it is not.

Also, I was unable to install KB896423 since I am running SP3.  Try to install he did the following:

Setup has detected that the version of Service Pack for this system is newer than the update you are applying.

There is no need to install this update.

The printer is a "local printer attached to this computer" connected via a "Standard TCP/IP Port".  Personally, I think such a printer should be called "a network printer or a printer attached to another computer", but that is the terminology used by the "Add Printer Wizard".

    Hello terrafrost,.

Thank you for visiting the Microsoft answers community.

What is the model number of the printer that you are using?

Printing a "Standard TCP/IP Port, is used for a printer that is directly connected to a network, not on your local system.

I would try to uninstall your printer and reinstall your printer.

  • The print spooler service is not running

I had a virus that I got rid of but now my printer does not print, it comes up with "the print spooler service is not running" and I can't add a printer.  What should I do to solve this problem.

It's pretty easy to start the print spooler service... but may not stay started.

    To restart the print spooler:

    • Click Start, click Run, and then type services.msc in the run box, and then click OK
    • Scroll down the list until you get to the print spooler and double-click the entry
    • Make sure that the "Startup Type" is "automatic".
    • Click on the button 'Start '.
    • OK your way out

In the likely case where this isn't a solution permanent for you, when you post, include the following information:

    1. What version of Windows you have, including the service pack (start > run > winver > OK)
    2. What make and model of printer you have
    3. What antivirus you have installed
    4. If your computer was without an antivirus application or current subscription for your antivirus (in other words, how is it you got infected in the first place)
    5. What steps you have taken to determine that your system is now free of malware (i.e. what applications antivirus and antimalware you scanned the system with)
