  You cannot disable the buttons next and previous, you can hide them via the options menu flying if you want (select the widget > click the blue circle with the white arrow at the top right of the widget).

  However, even if the next/previous buttons will take you to another image, you can still change them, when they are selected, as the buttons remain same for all slides.

  In addition, the buttons should be the same color for each photo.

  I find more and more important to be able to see the actual email address of the sender rather than just displaying the name, because they do not usually show a company name - a domain would always be.   Mailnews.message_display.disable_remote_image controls all remote content.
  I hope change permissions.default.image will make the button reappears.

  Seems to work OK if you put the whole graph in customize mode and click the buttons on the palette to import your graphics. Try it!
