Ridiculous question: Custom built ESX (i) server: worth it?

Hi all.  I'll start by saying that I am new to using virtual machine; Recently, I jumped on the wagon.  Dive head first, I'm looking to withstand a server ESX (i) of production mainly running some flavor of * nix with a typical installation of the LAMP and perhaps a few other ad - hoc * nix VM.  SQL get used more & more, I'll get off to another physical machine, but for now, I think I'm ok.  I currently have a * LAMP server of nix running on a Core 2 Quad (Q6600) & 4 GB.  Load exceeds rarely 0.75 and I have yet to see pass over 2.25.

Now, unfortunately Uncle Scrooge is not my uncle, so I can't plop down the crowd K required on a well-configured dual quad-core Xeon with 16 GB of RAM.  I had looked for renovated material and although some prices were within my reach (less than 2 k), many configurations don't compare to what I have now.  I'll do a lateral movement in terms of processing power, RAM etc, but I think that to do a dual Xeon 3.0 (single cores with a 800 MHz front bus) would be a step down from a Core 2 Quad.  (Am I wrong?)  I found some interesting configurations here and there but have concerns about the dilapidated equipment and limited growth potential.  Most of the systems were too expensive so only configured, only offered no dual-core option two, either dual core dual maxed out at 2.8 GHz.  I'd rather buy something middle of the road, so that all the less, he would replace what I have now and also I want to put a pair of quad-core Xeon on the road.

I have my own computers to build in general, but since ESX (i), from what I've gleaned so far, don't just install and run it on anything, I have my doubts, it will be a viable option.  Although the posts here & here (no links xtravirt work) suggest this has been done, they are tactile obsolete.  That being said,

Anyone done anything with technology rececnt like Core i7?

What a recent Tyan/SuperMicro/Asus dualistic structure and a couple of Gainestowns?

Savings, if any, to build your own servers VM outweigh the headaches to deal with

-Compatible machines HCL ESX (i)

-Machines years & refurbished

Any input is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for reading!

I f you are ready to run with the motherboards, not on the HCL, you can go to http://vm-help.com/

    SOLVED!

Then I got a job to another printer HP OfficeJet 8 X 00-

All you have to do is RESTORE network defaults on the front control panel - this will reset the default value:

    (1) requirement for access password turned OFF

    (2) default user name is ADMIN

    (3) password is EMPTY

then, on command before Panel set your IP network information, and you will then be able to access the built-in Web server and see all / manage all settings, including resetting the password to the web server integrated EWS.

I'm running Win 7 and I was trying to set up two accounts different wireless setting - home and hotspot, one for each type of internet connection used. • HP Laserjet M606x: Disable the option 'Print' in the built-in Web server

I am testing a new HP Laserjet M606 device and to disable the option 'Print' which is displayed in the 'Information' tab in the built-in webserver (EWS). I have a firewall turned on, turned off wireless printing, FTP, AirPrint, Web Services, PPI and independent producers is also disabled. HP Jetdirect XML service is also disabled. I have crossed most of the EWS settings and configuration options in JetAdmin and did not find an option to turn this feature off.

The device will be located in a public place and will have a reserved/static IP address (DHCP reserved). We charge for services to the end-users of printing - having this option turned on means that users can print for free if they find the IP address of the printer - not an ideal situation.

Is it possible to disable this option permanently? The only other solution is to disable EWS entirely, if possible.

To be a little more specific in the built-in web server click the Security tab. Now scroll down until you find the section for embedded web server settings. I was watching who had enough current firmware in the machine there is a checkbox to enable or disable the option for printing on the information page.

  • Finding information on the ink using the built-in Web server in Photosmarts

SAP (built-in web server) is a useful tool which is used in many respects related to networking, it can provide information on Web Services and can also set Static IP and static DNS on the printer.

But, if it is connected to the network via Ethernet or via a wireless connection with the Officejet, it is also a great way to check the ink levels and number of pages.

To access EWS of the printer.  Take the IP address of the printer and type it in a browser on the computer. The IP address can be found under settings wireless to the printer on display or on the Network Configuration report that can be printed.

Once we've hit this address in the browser, the integrated Web server opens to a screen that will show you some basic information on this page. It will be showing the ink levels estimated for the printer.

For a more detailed look at the output of consumer and media of ink printers:

    1. once on the homepage of the Photosmart EWS, click the tab above titled "Tools".

    2. from there, looking at the left column on the new page that appears, click reports

    3. from here, click use report

    • We'll now be able to see how many cartridges have been replaced for each color in the printer.
    • Once can see the total number of pages for pages printed by the printer
    • This report will also give a break down on how many pages when printed on plain paper, photos and media size

So, for those who are connected by Ethernet or wireless to the printer; Here's another option to find information about the ink levels.  These steps and information listed are general guidelines.

I hope the community finds this is useful and informative.  Good impression!

  • W10 and custom built PC

My PC came with Windows 7 pre-installed. I custom built my PC from the ground and installed Windows 7 Pro myself by using the installation diskettes that I purchased from Newegg. literally the day W7 is out. My opinion is my copy of Windows 7 mine and the device on which it is installed is not relevant as long as it's only 1 device (which is). If my PC, now 6 years later, out craps or I downgrade this PC and build a new one (what I think), I think I should be able to transfer my copy of Windows 7 and Windows 10, so for the new device. Still once, as long as my copy only runs on 1 device, it must be more difficult that install W7 from the original CD, perform the necessary updates of W7 and then run the upgrade from the W10. Are there problems with this scenario?

Provided that your version of Win7 is a full retail version, then no problem

my makes no difference if its an OEM, which is related to the first PC sound version installed on.

  • Printer Officejet Pro 8620: How to reset the Server Web integrated (built-in web server) on the printer Officejet Pro 8620 Pro?

The password has been reset, but we cannot go beyond the server request the user name and password to change the other settings.  We have not had any problems to set up the printer to the computer and we are able to print and use the printer.  We just need to find EWS to change other settings.  We use Windows 7.

    Hi there @Mariko23

    Welcome to the forums,

I understand the SAP you request a user name and password and you're looking to reset the built-in Web server to access accordingly.

I suggest try to restore default network settings on the device, which should help you.

On the printer, select Setup, network configuration, network by default, Yes, restart the printer.

Good luck, I hope this helps

  • CF2016 - Alias/cf_scripts / scripts on the built-in Web server

I am following the guide lockdown here:

    http://wwwimages.Adobe.com/content/dam/ACOM/en/products/ColdFusion/PDFs/ColdFusion-2016-Lo ckdown - guide.pdf

The guide proposes to move/cf_scripts/scripts directory, I did.

The guide also offers using only the web server integrated access to the ColdFusion administrator, this is how I put it in place.

The guide also indicates that you need to create an alias for the directory moved to the built-in web server.  See page 58 of the PDF.

If you plan to use the built-in web server to access the ColdFusion administrator, you may need to create an alias for/cf_scripts/scripts if you have changed the default Script Src in ColdFusion administrator.

To create a new Alias for/cf_scripts/scripts on the built-in web server

If you plan to use the web server to access the ColdFusion administrator, then you must also add an alias by adding a tag context inside the tag of the located server.xml file host: /opt/cf11/cfusion/runtime/conf/server.xml

    < context path = ' / '.

    docBase = "/ opt/cf11/cfusion/wwwroot".

    Workie = "/ opt/cf11/fusion/runtime/cone/Catalina/localhost/tamp.

    alias = "/ coscripts = / opt/cf11/fusion/wwwroot/CFIDE/scripts" / >

Restart ColdFusion, and then test by visiting /cfscripts/cfform.js on your server of builtin.

There are a ton of typos in the present (Workie vs WorDir, vs conf cone, Pack vs coscripts vs cfscripts, tmp, etc..

This also seems to be referencing the paths cf11 (CFIDE/scripts vs /cfscripts/cfform.js vs cf_scripts/scripts/cfform.js and cf_scripts/scripts).

In addition, coldfusion - error.log notes the following:

WARNING: A context path should be an empty string or start with a ' / ' and do not end with a ' / '. [The path [/] does not satisfy these criteria and has been replaced by]

    WARNING: [SetPropertiesRule] {Server/Service/engine/host/context} setting property 'alias' to ' / cf_scripts/scripts = / cf_scripts/test_scripts "did not find a corresponding property.

The first line is not a problem, but the second line is.  alias is not a valid property of the context.

The server.xml file is an example, and it is as follows:

    "< context path =" "docBase =" < cf_home > / wwwroot "WorkDir =" "< cf_home > / runtime/conf/Catalina/localhost/tmp" > "

    < resources >

    < base preResources = "docBase1" className = "org.apache.catalina.webresources.DirResourceSet" webAppMount ="/ aliasPath1" / > "

    < base preResources = "docBase2" className = "org.apache.catalina.webresources.DirResourceSet" webAppMount ="/ aliasPath2" / > "

    < / resource >

    < / context >

It aligns with the Apache docs.

I have CF installed on Windows, to F:\CF_2016\.  That's what I did to alias the directory of scripts (renamed to test_scripts for testing) for the built-in web server:

    < context path = "/" docBase = "F:/CF_2016/cfusion/wwwroot" WorkDir = "F:/CF_2016/cfusion/runtime/conf/Catalina/localhost/tmp" >

    < resources >

    < base preResources = className "F:/CF_2016/cfusion/wwwroot/cf_scripts/test_scripts" = "org.apache.catalina.webresources.DirResourceSet" webAppMount = "/ cf_scripts/scripts" / > "

    < / resource >

    < / context >

It seems to work.  Is this correct? Wouldn't be an alias as \Scripts or /cfscripts instead of/cf_scripts/scripts?

Why exactly should I alias this to the administrator?

    Thank you

    Hello

I was in the same boat (we are defining a profile secure for testing) and I see no one answered you so I want to offer what we were doing.

    webAppMount = "/ {NEW_CFSCRIPTS_VIRTUAL_DIRTORYNAME" / >} "

You see, I believe the problem you had previously was that the base should be the physical directory and the webAppMount should be the virtual directory.

You were correct about the typos in the "official" document

I don't know if it's important or not, but we have also created the directory "tmp" (quoted above) within the "{YOUR_DRIVE} :/. "{CFROOT} / cfusion/runtime/conf/Catalina/localhost / ' because it is not there by default.

    Kind regards
    David

  • Customer of ESX server/vi /VC / which can be downloaded and tried for at least a month

    Hello

Could someone point me to the version of esx server/vi client /VC versions of the server, which can be the trial downloaded and tried. (downlaods section Vmsphere of the trial for 2 months)

My goal is to run the server as a VM esx in vmware workstation in documents Xtravirt. (I had earlier run esx 3.0 on workstation 6.0.2 with VC 2.0 and 2.5 client Vi)

If I could get the same versions also problem would be resolved. But it would have been great if I could run each of them on trial versions that I could connect to VC and log in as a user and add another administrator virtual machines.

    Thank you

    I can try the new vSphere suite: ESX4 + VC 4 +...

  • Research with application question Java and determinations stateless server

We want to use a server of determinations OPA stateless (because of high availability reqruirements) with a java-based application where we want to put our decisions of complex business logic in the OPA. How can we mimic the functionality web-derterminations in search of the question? During the evaluation of a modules, it is possible that there is not all the attributes that are necessary to reach a conclusion. If this situation arises, we want to provide these attributes to the appliation of java, which can search its database or to ask additional questions. The record of decision seems to contain this information, but if so, how should we interpret it? Is it possible to recover one or more or the following questions there are at - it a code (sample) available to do this?

    Philip.

    Hi Philippe,.
You can imitate web-determinations almost exactly using ODS maintenance service. You create a session and then run surveys in the same way you do on screens, and maintenance service will return the necessary questions until the goal is complete. This may interact with real modules screens (even if you use not OWD), so that you can customize the order of input data (and groups of data that must be entered) in the same way that you can with OWD.

    This is the useful references:

    http://docs.Oracle.com/HTML/E36316_01/content/tutorials%20and%20Samples/Eg_DS_Int_Service_Investigation.htm
    http://docs.Oracle.com/HTML/E36316_01/content/technical%20Reference/DS_Interview_Service.htm

It is normally appropriate for an interview with custom instead of the OWD user interface layer.

It can be much easier in your case to stick to the ODS assess the service and request a decision report but use the result of style as 'basic attributes' on the first pass. Lists all the basic attributes needed to make this decision. Any attribute base he needs, but which are missing, is listed as unknown-val. You could use this answer to then search the database for missing fields and pull request with additional fields.

These are two options to explore!

    See you soon,.

  • Built a new server vcenter, simple as moving the hosts?

Hi, one of my clients is running ESX 3.5 U4 with Virtual Center 2.5 U4. We intend to upgrade their environment to vSphere this weekend. The server vcenter 2.5 right now is running underpowered, so they decided to deploy vcenter 4 on a new, more powerful box rather than upgrade existing installation. I built the server and installed vcenter 4 using their license key. My plan for this weekend seems simple enough, but I couldn't find this specific scenario anywhere in the guide of upgrade provided by vmware, so I thought I just would make sure:

    1. disable HA and DRS on current ESX cluster

    2. Unplug each host in turn of the bunch. (leave the cluster running in case of a need to roll back)

    3. Add each host in turn to a newly created on the new vcenter server cluster 4.

    4. turn on the DRS and HA services on cluster vcenter 4

    5. use of the upgrade Manager to upgrade each host ESX 4.

Am I missing something? Thank you.

After correcting the ESX host, address to Virtual Machines

Addressing guests ESX with Update Manager summary

In the Update Manager, create a database upgrade ESX host

On the References tab and select groups, upgrade of the baselines, click on create in the upper right corner

    Name: ESX 4.0

    Base Type: upgrade host

ESX upgrade iso: Browse for downloaded ESX 4.0 ISO

Set this line of base to your hosts

Scan of hosts against the base line

Tackle the hosts against base - * Note that Update Manager controls the application of the ISO you have downloaded and created a basic manual for running the ESX upgrade.  Update Manager is no longer just for the patches.

    Address to virtual machines

Select the tab 'reference levels and groups '.

    Select view planning for: VMs/SAV

    Under groups, select Create

The database name: VM Upgrade vSphere hardware and tools

In the new Group Wizard, select "Updates"

Select "VM Hardware to match the host"

Select "VMware Tools upgrade to host of the Match"

Come on in "inventory - models and virtual computers ' view

The leveling refers to virtual machines, you want to update - may fix the object data center level to apply to all virtual machines

Scan for update - can do on the subject of data center to all virtual machines at the same time

Clean up - can select a subfolder or individual to run VMs update process gradually
