    Hello

    Thanks for the update.

I wish to inform you that it is possible to merge two partitions into one, if both are on the same hard drive.

You will need to remove one of the partitions and extend the other to include one deleted.

You can view the steps proposed by BurrWalnut in the following link:

  • Potential new user - several work stations and external hard drive

    Hello

I am considering the purchase of Lightroom, but wanted to run my script by the group to see if it works for me.

I have a desktop at home and at work, in addition to a laptop that I use when the place. The laptop is only used to unload the memory cards and do organize basic, not image processing.

At home, I have a database of image (XnView) that I use to organize my files, and then go to the bridge to convert my RAW TIF files. When I did work on my images, I use Beyond Compare to synchronize my internal image with an external drive. Outside we're going with me both as a backup, but that allows me to do more editing on my schedule for dinner. Any changes to the work is then synchronized to the internal drive to the House.

At home, the internal drive is designated as H (I use Windows) while the outside is the G drive. At work, when I plug the external hard drive, I put to come as the H drive. In this way, the files of database for XnView, residing on both internal and external, discs are loaded and XnView is none the wiser. OK, so that was a long introduction to my questions...

First of all, if I use Lightroom, can I use it on multiple computers as long as I use it never simultaneously on more than one?

Second, if I save the catalog on the internal H drive home, and then synchronize on the external drive, Lightroom to work just start and play these files of database unconscious because it is now an external hard drive?

Third, Lightroom has a built-in synchronization feature to do this, or I would continue using Beyond Compare to synchronize the two disks until I run Lightroom?

    Thank you!

Just to add. I use LR on two machines (sometimes three), there is no problem with the license, there is no activation and LR is designed for the Pro who obviously needs to be mobile. The images in the catalogue are on an external drive. These are also saved on my studio machine. The catalogue is also on the disk external and also duplicated on both computers. and saved on separate hard drives.

I work from the catalog on disk external when working on the top of the Tower in the studio, or as appropriate on machines borrowed in the field. Some would say that a catalog runs slower on an external drive. While the construction of previews, recording of the xmp data (or in my case direct to DNG) and import are a little slower with the help of an external drive, there is not slowing the work of real treatment.

It means that I have a general catalogue of all my images which is always up to date. It works very well without any problems.

  • Advice on moving 1.5 to SATA 2 HARD drive and put the Samsung SSD on SATA 1...

My plan is to make a DVD of W10 MS

    Power off

    Unplug 1.5 to boot/storage HDD SATA 1

    Connect Samsung SSD SATA 1

Turning and fresh install MS W10 on SSD and let it update

Then, can I plug 1.5 to SATA 2 HARD drive and make it just my storage via disk management?

What steps/tips to make this an easy transition?

    Paul

It should not matter if you use SATA1 or SATA2, but there are always exceptions.

I got a motherboard with two different SATA [Intel & Marvel] controllers with different speeds. It is unusual, so the safest bet is to use the same SATA connector for your new SSD that you used for your old HDD.

Since you have two bootable disks, you may need to go into EUFI/BIOS and set your boot order to boot from the new SSD first.

You should be able to access the files on the old drive without problems, but I've seen on occasion where you will get an "Access denied" error due to 'permissions' problems, especially if the original/OS disk has been protected by a password. If you have any questions, you can create a linux live boot disk "to access your files.

Instead keep you the old drive as is, with an operating system and boot volumes on it, you must backup/move your important files to your new SSD then remove all volumes on the old disk, create a volume, and then format to use as a data/backup drive.

    Hello HP community!

    I was wondering how...

I heard that people are able to upgrade their quad Envy 17 with SSD 250 GB in addition to store 1 TB of HARD drive.

    Are there difficulties to face?

I just bought Samsung 840 EVO KIT (250GB).

    Any recommendations would be appreciated

    See you soon!

Yes the reference in the manual is just saying that HP offered with it as an option when new. It does not list what is compatible.

  • Replacing hard drive Samsung HD103SJ

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100 with a processor i5 8GIG memory, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade online after purchase Dell) and a single 1 TB Samsung HD103SJ HARD drive.  Last weekend the Samsung went south.  The disc does not turn and the BIOS can't see it.  My brother-in-law said 'No problem' and proceedes to attempt restoring.  After dozens of false starts, the BIOS settings and a six-pack of beer, he declared defeat.

    I have three questions:

1 how the BIOS "SATA Mode" should be selected for a single 1 to HARD drive? (I get a new 1 to Western Digital Black from Dell)  All BIOS functions are now on 'default' including the "SATA Mode" in "RAID".

    2. is there a maximum number of times you can use the DVD to install Dell Windows 7?

    3. have Windows 7 Professional installed previuosly will cause a problem reinstalling Windows 7 from Dell reinstallation DVD in the new HARD drive?

    Thank you

Thanks, I'll use SATA.  I didn't know if DELL had shipped AHCI in their RAID BIOS option somehow for a selection of hard drive.

I have downloaded the ISO in Windows7 Digital River of www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads-t12325.html, created a DVD and actually seen the page of presentation of Windows 7!

All I have left to do is load all the drivers and software.  It is a road I've been down many times before.

You reference for the download of Digital River has been a godsend.

Thank you, I apologize for any reference I have that could possibly be to you when I let loose all how DELL handles the problem of lack of HDD Samsung.  I saw how you helped a lot of people in the community of DELL and now I'm one of them

    Thanks again!

    1. with respect to the first question: your system files have been corrupted. Do a System Restore before the app was used.

Try you "tune up", "maximize", "registry cleaners" or any what kind of app that promises to improve the performance of your PC somehow. None of them improve anything, often at the antipodes (as you discovered). Microsoft W7 already has all the apps. you need to keep your PC in tip-top condt. Try not to add anything.

All these various named apps. are all 'snake oil' and very dangerous to use. However, you will find a lot of 'logic' online promo. material from "authoritarian" sites as to how will be beneficial for your PC. Not drawn in by these Advertorials :)

2 the hidden partition is probably "restore to factory condt." partition rescue/recovery of the manufacturer of your computer. This can be used for the rescue of PC when things diabolically wrong with your operating system and cannot be set by any other means. You need an ISO image (clone) of the OS partition and MBR (master boot record) only, not the entire HARD drive.  Including the partition of relief are a very good idea but I'm not familiar with the software cloning you use.

Download Macrium Reflect free edition for purposes of cloning and recovery and make the CD

image recovery disk. He advises you to do so (by steps in the simple wizard driven) before using the program for anything regardless of whether the image.

  • My Samsung G2 portable HARD drive is unreadable after the scan and fix. Help!

I am using a Samsung G2 640 GB drive external HARD USB for the archiving of digital photos and music.

My desktop computer is running that win7 Pro 32-bit. Pentium E6500, 2 GB of RAM DDR3, 640 GB SATA HARD drive.

No problem, until that the message "Analyze and difficulty" arose one day.

What do I know? Just a simple user, not a WinGuru, so I allowed him to go forward.

Now, my files, folders & the Samsung access are no longer works.

When the USB is connected, I get a prompt that indicates WHAT FORMAT is required.

Well, I'm not so distraught as to format a drive where I want to save my data, so

No FORMAT has been done on the drive.

I tried to run chkdsk from the cmd line, also without success.

When I right click on properties (the disc appears on CP) it shows

available 0 bytes and 0 used bytes.

Why, oh why Windows chooses to give me such pain.

Your drive has failed, you can try the recovery of third party software, or you can send the drive to a data recovery specialist.

Msg scan & fix meant that a problem was detected and the software was trying to fix, and obviously he couldn't
