  If you use the built in-app email, on your splash screen, you will see an e-mail icon (tile) that will tell you when you have new messages.  You can also set your e-mail options to display a popup alert when new e-mail is received (the popup appears for about 10 seconds at the top of the screen).

  Remember that you don't have to use the built-in email program.   You can continue to use the e-mail program, you used before that you have Windows 8, it would be still the same work for you (for example, showing a send icon near the clock on the taskbar).  If you don't remember what e-mail program, you have used before, let me suggest the Windows Essentials free e-mail program.

• Launch of Air help PDF?

  Hi all

  We have an AIR help application installed with our software. This help application has several bookmarks in there and our application can open in a context sensitive way.

  We envisage the creation of a "quick start" guide as one. PDF which, instead of being a reference is more of a "how to". However, it would be really nice if we could make links inside. PDF to launch the application for assistance from the AIR in a way similar to our application.

  I'm not an expert with Acrobat or AIR, but rather the programmer who wrote the code to start using our application (which is written in C++). Could someone point me in the direction I have to watch in order to run our AIR aid of the. PDF? According to me, there's a way to add a javascript link, but all of the JS code I saw seemed quite heavy if one were to attempt to add to each unique contextual link. And given that they are both Adobe products, I think that there must be a more integrated way to do this.

  I checked with Adobe that what I said above is correct, it is not possible to launch an exe from a PDF file for security reasons.

  You can try to uninstall and reinstall the USB controllers and check:

  To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  a. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box and then click OK.

  b. click on the Hardware tab.

  c. click the Device Manager button.

  d. expand Bus USB controllers.

  e. right click on each device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click on uninstall to remove them one at a time.

  f. restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.
