Try to run with Hyperterminal to see if you have found anything of your device. When Hyperterminal works, then try your VI.
You don't need really the business structure in your vi. You wiring is difficult to keep up with all these curves and segments being hidden. Here's how your vi should look like:

How can I set a usb to com1 or com2 port in Win7 where there is no rs-232 port?
I have a program I want to run in Win7 Home Premium. The program requires that it be connected to Com1 or com2. My computer has no other except the usb ports serial ports. How can I assign com1 or com2 to one of my usb ports?
Looks like that the USB device that you will be truly recognized by the computer as a COM port. It could come with drivers. If that were the case you want to make sure that the accessory is properly recognized as a USB port. You can check this by opening the Device Manager and developing group 'Ports '. Ensure that it is not an exclamation mark next to it. If there is, you may need to reinstall the driver.
If there is no exclamation mark then don't double-click the icon for the port to open. Go to th e 'Port Settings' tab and click on "Advanced". You will see a drop down menu that you can modify to change the allocation of port for the USB adapter. -
Satellite M40X-189: how to connect RGB port to port RS232?
Hello
as you know the satellite M40X - 189 P - M 730/XP has a port monitor RGP and doesn't have a RS232 port.
I work with device of automatic titration requiring the RS232 port for connection!
No idea how I can connect my laptop on this unit!pls help
Thank you
OmranklHello
AFAIK the RS-232 port is a serial port and I don t think that it of possible to connect the RGB port to the RS232 port.
But I found the site useful:
http://www.Ontrak.NET/USB.htmYou will find a description how to connect the USB port to an RS-232 port.
You need an interface ADU.

set up my connection is uncomplicated: I use laptop Latitude E6510 (which has no serial port) located in the docking station. I use the USB cable connection and NI USB docking for 2 RS-232 (port) device. cable 9-pin connect between the converter and Keithley 2702 use. I can use the device in the multi-commutateur scan with no problems. But when I use MAX to find the instrument that always get error-9996.
My question is: the USB to device must convert series connect PC directly?Hello
When it works, there is no problem with the serial port or the converter. A usb to docking station connection is a connection to the machine itself for the software. I also have an e6510 and see no problem.
MAX will not find the k2700 because MAX does not scan serial ports.

Visa set up serial port problem
Hi all
I use the RS-232 port to communicate with the instrument. At the moment the device is not their so I shorted pins 2 and 3 of the connector connected to the COM2 port, so that what ever I'm transmitting, I I'll be back. Using Hyperterminal I am able to verify that whatever i write, he's coming back.
But when you use a Labview 7.1 I am tring to connect first by configuring the using VISA CONFIGURE SERIAL PORT.vi serial bus
with the following parameters
Visa resource name = ASRL2::INSTR (port COM2 because)
Baud rate = 2400
Data bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop bits = 1.0(Equal to 10)
Flow control = None
End of reading at the end of character = True
Dismissal = A
Up VISA is in error. The error code is 1073807202
The procedure described above is similar in the read/write of Visa examples provided...
I strive to solve the problem but all invain.
Can anyone help me in this.
See here
I guess your problem is #2 (you have not installed OR visa).

I'm having a time difficult troubleshooting drivers LabVIEW RS232 I wrote for my stepper motor. (External LabVIEW) is anyway I can discover the show and receive characters on my RS-232 port without disrupting what is LabVIEW?
Every once in a while, I send a command to my engine, and the engine indicates that it includes a command error (I get that to query error register on the engine). At the end of my error report I have fix the command I sent the engine, and it seems to always correct. In addition, my drivers to check all data on the motor and drum of answers of the engine with the data that I was trying to. Feature wise, everything works, if I neglect the error register on my engine.
I've added everything I can for my error reports I can think of to help me understand exactly what is causing my engine to receive a wrong command. It would really help I could spy on the communication somehow without blocking the port directly.
Thank you!

NEITHER spy does this!
If you don't want that you can try portmon (search for it) but it log long messages is not the OR-Spy case.

serial port read one character
Hello
I'm new to the forum, so I don't know if I'm posting this question in the right place.
However, my problem is I'm trying to communicate via serial rs-232 port and the goal is to read and write the question (code) of the device.
The Unit regularly sends a "perpetuate" character S. When I read this character, I write the question and receive the response. Then a S appears again and I bravado the code, read the answer and so on...
The problem is that when I try to do everything at once (read S, send the code and read the answer) and it 14 times before reaching the 1st code again once, labview is very slow. (3-5 seconds to perform this tasks 14 and restart the process). I think that the program becomes slow because that way I'm not using all the S which inflamed the writing and reading process.
So, I wanted to read character by character (byte-by-byte) and then create a table with the answer. The problem is that the buffer sends answers with several bytes and I can't build an array in 'real time', beacause if I read (read VISA) only one byte, then I would be lost all the others.
I think that chains concantenate and shift registers are part of the solution, but I have too many problems until I get to the part.
So, please help me to read a single character and doesn't lose not the other bytes sent by the buffer, in order to fix the process, because I want one second per second refresh. The device emits a flow rate of 19200 baud.
Thanks in advance
I think that if you connect the value 1, the reading serial port function, you will receive a byte, and you won't lose the rest.
The rest are stored in the buffer. If you use the previous function again, you will get the next byte.

Can I use two NI PCI-232/4 cards in a PC without conflict?
I currently have a system with an NI PCI-232/4 card, all the ports used.
Trying to decide between getting a second card or the upgrade of the current map to one with more ports. If possible, I would just add a second card but I want to assure you that there will be a conflict using two of the same card.
Hi dcjoey,
You can use two cards of the same type on the same computer, the system should have no problem telling them apart. 232 new ports will have unique numbers like 232 ports on your first card PCI-232 and your built in COM port. For example if you have 2 devices PCI-232/4 and one built in the COM port, you should see COM 1 (built in), COM 2, 3 COM, COM 4, COM 5 (first map), COM 6, COM 7, COM 8 COM 9 (second map).
Let us know if you need more information.
Thank you

Hello
I use a data acquisition unit integrated in a unit of 2 balls of hair, installed with a Zilla controller on an electric vehicle. Hairballs allows other devices to the device via a serial RS-232 port. The option of data acquisition for displays information like speed, tension etc.
I use Teraterm, a terminal Communicator to start communication with the device of hairballs. After having sailed in the various menus, I can access the DAQ feature that provides data continuously to the status of the various components of the vehicle. 5B 01 0b C8 03 53 02 39 27 OMFS is, for example, a sample of data from the module of data acquisition.
When the port is configured to send these data, I close the program Teraterm and run the vi in LabVIEW (series of reading and writing to .tdms only.vi) which stop automatically in 25 seconds (so recording 25 readings). It gives an error (-1073807252) saying that VISA: (Hex 0xBFFF006C) an overrun error occurred during the transfer. A character not read in the material before the arrival of the next character.
I'm unable to change the output of the device of data acquisition. In fact, the DAQ hardware has no controls what so ever. Thus, all the necessary adjustments must be made in LabVIEW.
Is there a solution to this problem? What could be the likely causes?
Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi Akhil,
I would be really grateful if you type my username properly - should not be so difficult to copy & paste the 5 letters
"So you are saying that if I increase the rate at which I accepted data, (for example every 500ms) the problem should disappear.
Yes. Read the more often you less likely buffer, you will get a buffer overrun...
"There when even to"Refresh"the buffer after each reading taken? ... How can you increase the buffer? »
Did you look at the advanced features in the VISA-> 'VISA'-> ' / unique Bus Interface "palette? It's all in your face
"Also a faster computer to run the program would help?
Certainly NO! These days, any computer is fast enough to handle standard RS232 serial communication...

Hello world
I have a very disputed project. What I have to do is to transfer a text file from a computer to my laptop with some constraints:
- The OS of the computer is just Windows XP Professional (not .NET, no programming language)
- It is not allowed to install software or this (working only on this computer) computer programming languages
- Some USB and RS-232 ports are available.
- No external storage device can be used (e.g. USB stick).
So, I wonder if there is a way to do it. For example, we succeed in VBScript or JScript that are available in WIndows XP? We can transfer the file text on serial port or something (I don't know).
I'd appreciate if someone could give me some suggestions.

Can I use SX20 with RS-232?

Hello
You can use the USB on the SX20 port to connect a USB to the serial cable. Once the SX20 is started, you should get the RS-232 activated. It runs at a speed of 115 200. You won't have any connection in the early boot process, including the U-boats. Only when the system is fully charged, the port will be active. The RS-232 stands as a DTE. I don't know what they expected the CRESTON. If it is a DCE, you're OK, if not, it will need a null-modem. Have not tried to use the USB port on the SX20 myself. Will give it a shot and test it.
