I'm going to 'File' > ' Save as ' and select "Adobe pdf" and then click Save. This is used to bring up a separate dialog window asking me things about how to save the pdf file, but that has disappeared. I'm also using an external monitor on my MacBook Pro, and I think that it is the culprit. I'm saving my individual layers so that I can turn power button in Adobe Reader, but this feature is not available without the dialog box. Any suggestions on how to get it back? In addition, without the dialog box Illustrator will emit beeps at me if I try to use it. I have to hit enter on the keyboard to save the PDF with the default settings.

  Looks like the dialog box's off-screen. You can try to reset the preferences by using Cmd-Opt-Shift on restart I. That could bring back to the current screen.

  Hi JoeSeadog, extensions can change the dialog box. Try turning off all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on page modules. Either:

  • CTRL + SHIFT + a
  • Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > Add ons

  In the left column, click Extensions. Then, when in doubt, turn off. (Or if there are of course badware/useless, delete).

  Typically, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

  Please right-click on any PDF on your system, then go to properties > under general, you will find "opens with". Here you will see 'change' option, by clicking on it, wil give you a window from which you can choose the Acrobat Standard XI as a default for PDF files.
