Sample application blackberry for beginner developers

I noticed from time to time on this forum there are beginner developers, ask for help on the HelloWorld sample standards application.

I wrote a simple blackberry application and attached it to this message.

This application is well commented.

When compiled, find the icon of the application on the device (see launch.png below) and run it.

If you run this example on Simulator Bold or Storm - find this request the download folder (see the animated below image: bold_fr.gif)

On my site there is no section for novice developers, Simon. There are no articles for novice developers.

And in this case, I think for beginners, it would be better and easier to find here, in the section "Java development" of this forum.

  • BES push - URL of BPA in the sample applications

    Hi all

I'm testing the applications provided with the Blackberry PushSDK. Under Configuration push, there is BPA URL: and its default value is set to http://pushapi.eval.blackberry.com

When I try to record a device, it fails with a return 403 because I never registered with rim. But I'm only interested in using the application with a BES. Should I provide here? You still need to register with the rim if you use it with a BES only?

Or should I use localhost: 8080 for the address? What to do. Impossible to find all the information in the docs in http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/subcategories/?userType=21&category=BlackBerry+Push+Service...

    Any help is appreciated,
    Thank you

    Got, it works.

    Necessary re - install.

The url of BPA can be ignored. Must configure the Base URL of PPG as your address of MDS Simulator, mine was localhost: 8080. Then, when installing SDK change port for the server part of use something other than 8080 and browse the code, needs some changes to avoid exceptions are thrown due to the recording of BPA part.

If there are any other questions let me know.

  • do not start the service push sample application

Hi all, I have downloaded and installed the v1.0.0.5 BlackBerry Push Service SDK and tried to install it based on the Quick Start Guide. The first problem was that I couldn't start the Tomcat. After I double-clicked start.bat, I just a blank command window, open for 1-2 seconds and immediately close. I never had the same problem with another application using Tomcat, and can be resolved by using my own installation of Tomcat program. So I do the same thing, I use my own installation of Tomcat program. After that, I get the Tomcat service, but only service non-secure (http), not its secure (https) service. But I think that is not the problem, as long as I can still access it. Then I deploy the sample application (war file: debug-portal, sample-app and pushsdk) to my Tomcat and try to start it. I've got to start the Debug-Portal and pushsdk only, no-sample application. When I tried to start the sample application, I got this message: FAIL - the context path/sample-app Application could not be started, I searched this forum and have had almost similar problem. But those who wrote the display had the problem that all applications could not be started. And he found that it was caused by application_id. He forgot to put the id of the application during installation. I put my application_id (even if it's just false application id, 123456789012345). Can someone help me? How can I install and run the sample application? Thank for any help. PS. I use Windows Server 2003, Tomcat 6.0.20, Oracle 10 g and there's a Glassfish server on my pc (but it was off when I try this push-service application example). Best regards, Novan Ananda

Well Yes... I forgot to enter the app_id on sample-app - context.xml. all applications work now.

  • Impossible to clone any code sample of BlackBerry of GitHub (on Windows at least)

GitHub recently brought significant changes to their web site and workflow. It was that you could clone any public repository simply by downloading a ZIP file of the entire project.  It is no longer available, and now the only way to clone a repository must be running a git clone of the command line, or use the new GitHub application, which is much easier to use occasional (and not irritable). Or other method now requires to have an account on GitHub, so I advanced and created a new.

Generally, the simplest workflow is to launch the GitHub application (not sure if this is true for non-Windows platforms), then use a browser to navigate to the repository on GitHub and drag the token "GitHub Inc." to the far left of the navigation bar of the browser on the GitHub application screen.

At this point GitHub is supposed to appear a window asking where you want to clone the repository to locally. This happens for ALL the code examples in BlackBerry. Instead, you get a window that displays a message like this:

The log file is completely useless, since it only contains entries on the GitHub application startup, do not attempt cloning. I pulled my hair for two days trying to solve this, thinking that my GitHub configuration was corrupted somehow, since I hadn't used for cloning any other depositary before the BlackBerry I have tried. For some reason any at 03:00 one morning that all of a sudden, I wondered if all other repositories might work, so I tried a few public ones as a cloning experiment. To my surprise, they were all cloned perfectly. Other tests revealed that ANY non-BlackBerry repository, I tried would be perfectly, clone while NONE of the BlackBerry code those would clone example. I tried since with repositories of the sample of BB at least a dozen, all with the same negative results.

As I said, the other way to clone a repository with git clone CLI command or use a tool such as TortoiseGit, actually running a git clone under the hood. Anyway, trying to clone a repository of sample BB the command indicates that there is no repository at the specified URL.

Many of the sample of BlackBerry apps can be downloaded from the home page Momentics, but many less popular are not included and only can be cloned from the GitHub site. Given that it is impossible, it's a show total Cap unless you want to watch one of the most common of the homepage.

Here are a few deposits NON-BlackBerry which clone perfectly using the two methods I describe above:

    https://github.com/colinsc/Koha/

    https://github.com/pianohacker/Koha

    https://github.com/bendc/Sprint

    https://github.com/mikeflynn/egg.js

    https://github.com/square/keywhiz

    https://github.com/CoderMJLee/MJExtension

These are all repositories just randomly from several sources with nothing in common except that they are public GitHub repositories. All clone them easily. Now try to clone ANY repository of sample of BlackBerry. This one, for example...

    https://github.com/BlackBerry/Cascades-samples/tree/master/cascadescookbookcpp

Cloning will fail. Can someone at BlackBerry please look at this?

IIRC, you need to clone the whole samples, they are not available as individual projects.
(may be unrelated to your question, I haven't checked it)

  • Confusion in the sample application on the client side

    Hello

I write a client side app to push BB. I found an example of code in Push_applications_for_the_BlackBerry_Enterprise_Server-Development_Guide--915141-1116110032-001-US.pdf. There is no mention of App ID, URL of the bps or initiator push URL of the application of this code. I also checked the sample application provided with the SDK of the Push Service. He got all these things.

I'm confused, that these things are necessary or not. Also, I read somewhere that the customer must register with the initiator of push, it's a mandatory step?

Code who should I implement, for client push, working with the infrastructure based BB server push?

If you use the BlackBerry Push infrastructure to push, then you will need to have the unit register / subscribe in order to receive the shoot.

We are developing a Blackberry application. and

1 would like to put a link on our site (when we finish the request) for users can download the application and install to the device through the Desktop Manager. What file I send to users?

    2. If I want to send the blackberry application to distribute through Blackberry app world, which file I

you will need to send them?

How can I make these tasks, please give me suggestions or make reference to this subject.

    Thank you best regards &,.

    Narendra Shekhawat.

    1. If you place your JAD and COD on your web url, you can guide the user to use their browser and tap the JAD file so that the application will be installed directly via OTA. You don't have to use the DM.
