Satellite 5100-201-size Limitation of HARD drive

Hello

I have a Satellite 5100-201 P4 - M 1.6 Ghz with 30 GB IDE HDD and 1024 MB of RAM. I use my 'old' Satellite only for music (the largest sound found on laptops!) but my HARD drive got a little weak.

So my question is if there is no limit on the size of HARD drive for this laptop. I would buy an IDE 120 GB or 160 GB HDD at 5400 RPM and 8 MB Cache. If this is not possible, I can also take the 80 GB of HDD (another puts it on say works), but liked better!

Thanks for your help!

Greetings,
Fab

Hey Buddy,

I think that the maximum capacity of the HARD drive would be 120 GB because the laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that only the hard disks up to 128 GB usable 120 GB would be the maximum. 5400 RPM and 8 MB cache are ok.

By the way: it of Nice to read that you are always so pleased with old Satellite 5200 :)

  • M30E Satellite does support a limitation of HARD drive?

    Hello

I have a Satellite M30E, the original HARD drive was vice. So, I bought a WD 250 gig.
But I can't use the space behind 130 gb. (Win XP SP3).

Is it possible to download a driver or something else? I extend the Bios and 1.7. But it takes no effect.

    Greating from Germany.

I guess that the BIOS doesn't support large HDD sizes as 120 GB

A driver or an update of the BIOS will not help the only real solution (or not) is a use of the smaller HARD disk.

As mentioned above, it seems you can use max 120 GB HDD.

  • PowerEdge SC1435 - size limits of HARD drive?

    Hello

I have a PowerEdge SC1435 and have just tried to replace a 2 * 500 GB WD drives with WD 2 * 1 TB drives and I get "Unknown device" for the two SATA Port A & SATA Port B.

Disks SATA III & BIOS v2.2.3

Am I missing something here? This server can support these discs? Must be updated to BIOS?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mark

The question is the SATA III drives.  These have not been supported up to the 10th generation of Dell servers.  They will appear as unknown devices, if the bios is updated.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite Pro 4280 - what is the size of the HARD drive?

I just bought a laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro 4280. According to the manual, it should have a 6.0 GB HDD but in my computer it is shown as having only a 1.34 GB capacity.

PS I formatted the disk to remove the former owner data and operating system and you have installed Windows 98SE

    [Edited by: admin]

    Hello

Satellite Pro 428Xcdt was certainly delivered with 6 GB HARD drive.
Are you sure that you have checked the size of the HARD drive correctly?

I guess the 1.34 GB is a free space on the HARD disk.

The user guide is not clarify the differences between the models S5100-201 and S5100-603.
I can work on them are different speeds, memory and hard drive, but what about the internal bits?

I have a model 603 broke with a power control fault. Does anyone know if a model-201 motherboard will enter unity of 603?

    Hello

I am not a technician, but I found the info that these units have a different graphics card and the two can't handle with RAM max.

    Satellite 5100-201:
    -nVidia GeForce4 440Go 32 MB
-can handle with max 512 MB RAM

    Satellite 5100 603:
    -nVidia GeForce4 440Go 64 MB
-can handle with max 1024 MB of RAM

I'm not 100% sure, but if you swap the Mo together with all hardware, I think that other devices should work, but I put t know how it will work with the BIOS. Maybe the DMI should be rewritten.

There are little guys having very good knowledge on this forum, and I hope that some of them will be post here and say more about it.

  • Satellite M40: Question on formatting the HARD drive

    Dear Toshiba

I have laptop satellite M40 and want to format that my HARD drive is it certain that the software used for Toshiba HDD format

    Help, please

    Hello

What HARD drive you want to format?
If you want to format the HARD disk where the operating system works you can do if you are recovering your operating system with the recovery CD. However, you can boot into DOS mode and there you can try to use the format command. Note: You will lose all your files!
Also if you want to format an external HARD drive or a second partition, please right click on this drive, then format

You can also use a magic of Partitions if you want to create partitions, change the size or format hard drives.

    Good bye

  • The recovery disk is sensitive to the size of the hard drive?

    Hello

I just bought my new laptop Satellite.

I have owned one of these puppies before and so I know that the Toshiba recovery disc is a ghost image.

What I did is erased the hard drive clean because it's a piece of the circuit city showroom and t couldn't trust what was out there.

I put Ubuntu on the laptop. I want to put Vista on a VM.

As you can imagine, the virtual machine would have much less space than the actual size of the hard drive (200 GB) but of course, large enough to accommodate the installation of vista and all the goodies of Toshiba.

With this all said, the image will be cough, hanging and allows me not to install during installation of the ghost due to the different size image in space? So say the laptops hard drive space, it is 200 GB, but I only allocated 50 GB virtual hard disk.

Now I don't have a version of the class my program of schools Microsoft vista legitimate business, but I would use the home premium came with the laptop and use that Toshiba had provided me.

Then, going to work, or it will not?

    Thank you for your comments.

    > I wonder what the disc labeled "Toshiba recovery disk' which is come with my new laptop that I just bought actually is then.
Don t confuse boyfriend new Toshiba with Vista OS notebooks are equipped with HARD drive recovery option. But it also contains an option to create a recovery DVD in case the HARD disk will fail.

If you buy an old series laptop with Win XP, then it might be possible that you don t have the option to drive HARD recovery, but instead, you've got a recovery disk.

As you said above; the recovery disk contains an image (I doubt it s a ghost still image) that contains an operating system Windows, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.

  • Working on the Satellite 5100-201 remote control?

    Hello

I have a Satellite 5100-201 und I bought an original toshiba remote for the 5200-801. But it Don t work in my laptop, I install a driver? or it is not compatible with my laptop?

Sorry for the bad English, I m of the Germany and do my best.

    André

    Hello

When you purchased your portable Satellite didn t you get a remote control? If this isn't the case, then the unit is not ready to use the remote control. You can also refer to the manuals of s.

AFAIK all units with remote installed a small application called controls. Check in Control Panel if you can find something like that.

  • Satellite A30: Question on the new hard drive

The hard drive on the computer that the above has failed. When formatting the system hangs at 70%. When you run a utility to recover the hard drive again, it fails at 70%.
I now seeks to replace the hard drive and would like to know any 2.5 "Sata hard drive (speed/brand/size) usable (no).

I would have taken it would not be a problem, but there is no way to change the settings in the Bios, the Bios auto detects the drive when it is mounted?
When mounting the hard drive can it be introduced inside the access panel on the back of the laptop or the entire back should be deleted?

    Thank you
    Keith.

    Hello

Yes, the BIOS must allow and recognize the HARD drive automatically.
One thing is important. You must pay attention to the size of the HARD drive.
I found information that Satellite M30 supports hard disks IDE Bus Master 30 GB / 40 GB / 60 GB

  • Increased size of the hard drive but Windows C drive still shows smaller

I am trying to increase the size of the hard drive of my Windows XP virtual machine. I followed the instructions in the help to increase the size (rather than a second hard drive which suggested the FAQ I read later). My MAC finder shows a drop of water in my space of hard drive together, but the Windows C drive still shows the same amount as it had before starting the process. How can I get Windows to recognize the hard drive is bigger than it used to be? Will not install the program I am trying to load because of limited space.

Have you seen resizing virtual disks with step by step Instructions?

  • Is there a limit on the size of the hard drive that can recognize ESX?

    Hello

I would like to know if there is any limitation with regard to the size of the hard drive that can recognize an ESX 3.5 Server? I have a Dell server with 1.8 TB of HDD. When I try to install ESX 3.5 on it, ESX shows that space and be approzimately 1.4 TB. I understand that ESX requires little space, but I would not be the image that it's 400GO.

    Thanx

    Tejas

What is a RAID?  You could have 6 300 GB drives, RAID requires treatment, and basically, 1 disc is overload, so it seems you are using RAID 5 (if you have 6 disks).  In this case, that is right you have 1.4 flying over, which is what ESX sees.

    Hello!
I am owner of a Toshiba Satellite 5100 201. The five keys 9-O - L-.-led on the keyboard do not work. Is it a software or a defect of the keyboard control problem or a problem of contact on the map? Does anyone have experience with this problem? Can it be a BIOS problem? I have Bios 1.90.
    Can someone help me?

    Best regards
    Ulrich

    Hello

in most cases, the problem is that there is some dirt on the contacts of the keys.
You must remove and clean and check the connector of the keyboard.
If this help not the keyboard probably is defective and must be replaced.

  • Satellite A200-1CR: Question about upgrade HARD drive

    Hi all...
I would like to ask something...

I have toshiba Satellite A200-1cr with 120 GB HARD drive...

I would like to change my HARD drive. I found a disk hard 2.5 "with 250 GB.

    My questions are the following:

    (1) my knowledge of the workstations are very very good. Is it easy to change myself?
I guess it is, but I want to be sure... I guess that is on IDE, right? No SATA at all?

    (2) if I changed it I lose my warranty?

    (3) can I give my laptop Toshiba in Greece official store and let them make the change?
May I take in an informal shop, too?

    (4) can be put on the laptop 2 x 250 GB such US new computers laptops from toshiba?
Is there enough space in the laptop for such a change?

    Thank you in advance...

    Hey Buddy

It is good that ask you the question.

    (1) the Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and no IDE interface and that's why you need a SATA HDD. It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and as far as I know, you should find a few details in the user manual. There is a useful statement and photos that explain the entire procedure.

    (2) hm AFAIK the drive replacement HARD will not void the warranty, and has no effect on the State of security.

    (3) you can also contact the maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for a HARD drive replacement, but in my opinion that is not really necessary because the replacement is not very sensitive. As I said above, check the user manual.

    (4) I don t think that your laptop will support 2 x 250 GB HARD drive.
Of course, there are a few other series laptops which are abele to support two hard drives but I n t think that your laptop A200 support.

Just a small comment on the new HARD drive:
The fact is that some more HARD drive are not supported by the BIOS. I mean an upgrade to 120 GB to 250 GB drive HARD is really a leap one possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HARD drive correctly.
So I recommend to test the HDD first before buying.

    Good bye
