Satellite A 40, upgrade hard disk

Hi, I have a laptop Toshiba A 40 with a DVD-R/RW drive. My desktop pc has two hard disks with an 80 and a 120 GB.
What I'm wondering is can I connect hard drives in Notepad using a specially designed adapter or any other kit so that I can transfer the data stored in them in a DVD-R?
Thank you.

If you remove the disks, you can put them in a case that connects via USB to your laptop.
Or... you could just share your discs on the network.

  • Satellite M40x-112 - need advice on upgrade HARD disk

    Hello

I have a Satellite M40x-112, it is almost 3 years and the hard drive (TOSHIBA MK8025GAS ATA) has problems, I need to change it, but I don't know a lot of this so I ask for help and advice on which hard drive should I buy for this laptop.

I searched and read, but I still don't understand... In my view, there are many interfaces like PATA, SATA, ATA, then I saw ATA-2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 also Ultra-ATA/100, EIDE, IDE etc etc... so I'm really confused...

What interface using my laptop? What interface to use the new hard disk?

And what hard drive 2.5 "is good? You will find a large number of companies, which is the best hard drives for laptops?
My current hard drive is fat 80 GB. I would switch to 160 or 250, this guy do you recommend?

Thank you all very much for your help,

I understand that very well the different titles of interface HARD drive confused most people me too in the past ;)

    Then I would try to clarify some things;
There are two important differences between the interfaces of HDD; IDE (ATA, PATA and also known as EIDE) and SATA (SATA).

    ATA - 5, Ultra ATA/66 means Ultra DMA 3, 4 (44.4, 66.7) means UDMA/66
    ATA - 6 means that ultra ATA/100 that means UDMA 5 (100) means UDMA/100
    ATA - 7, Ultra-ATA/133 means that UDMA 6 (133) means UDMA/133

    and so now ;)

Your laptop supports the drive HARD IDE (ATA-6) Enhanced interface and you must use the IDE HDD (NOT of SATA)

I'm not sure on the size HARD disk max because Toshiba doesn't provide official information on the max supported drives hard but a 100 GB maybe 120 GB of HARD drive might be possible.

    Best regards

  • Satellite A-P70-11V - HARD disk protection works without accelerometer?

    Hi all

    I'm new here.
I did another post. In short, I'm expert enough in Toshiba Satellite laptops, but my new, Satellite P70-A-11V, a portable high professional range, had some problems. It came with Windows 8, which I upgraded to 8.1. Unfortunately, the degraded system so bad that all pendrives made plant. I have connected my Toshiba camcorder, and it also crashed the laptop.

The search indexing was not working outside the C: drive. The pointer of an optical mouse has started to freeze for seconds on the screen.
This last I believe was due to the low power USB ports.

So, I really had no choice after 2 restorations system total and installed Windows 7 Enterprise x 64 SP1. Operating system almost seems ok, but I still have problems, and one of them is that but I'm trying to install the accelerometer utilities, there is no driver.

I tried that Windows 8 x 64, but just, it does not appear on the list of services.

I found that the utility of the HARD disk protection was also arrested, I searched this forum and someone said that the Intel Rapid Storage technology must be uninstalled. I did and my HDD is running... but I don't know if it's effective!

I remember with the 8.1 Windows, the utility always shown a message on the upper right: Vibration is detected, the drive is temporarily closed, etc..

She has been associated with some high tone sound indicating that the drive has been effectively stopped. Now I can shake it off the laptop, but no message appears, there is no sound.

I checked all the boxes on the interface of protection of HARD drive to indicate if there are vibrations, but so far nothing. The drive protection is in place and running, but in the absence of use of the accelerometer, the protection of disk HARD just don't know when to act.

Am I wrong? Can Toshiba fix this?

    All responses are greatly appreciated.

    Hello

Toshiba drivers and tools available to win 8 or 8.1 to win are not entirely comparable with Toshiba available for Win 7 OS software.
Some drivers and tools that are available to win 8 don t exist for the Win 7 system.

For example; commercial accelerometer or HDD Protection Utility released in particular to win 8 / Win system 8.1 and are not available for Win 7.

But for Win 7, you can find the Toshiba VAP (value added package) and this package installs a range of important services that are an essential component of the Windows system and this PPV will perform the other original programming TOSHIBA works correctly.

Therefore, you must install the VAP as Toshiba's first tool to ensure that other software such as HDD/SSD Alert Utility or PC Health Monitor

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

    Welcome them

  • Satellite L50-A-19N - HARD disk controller is not compatible SATA 3

    Hello.

    I have a model of L50-a-19n satellite.
The hard drive it is HGST Travelstar 5 K 1000 750 GB, SATA 6 Gbps (HTS541075A9E680/0J22412).

On Web site of the manufacturer and as Aida64 diagnostic software the hard drive is named SATA-III 600 MB/s.

But when I run the Crystaldiskinfo software or simillar, it is said that the taken and current transfer mode supported SATA/300.
    Why is it like that?

Is this some sort of software limmitation?
In the Bios, I turned on the performance mode.

HARD drive supports SATA 6 Gbit/s, but the portable controller is probably limited to SATA II (3 Gb/s)

If the HARD disk controller does not support SATA III, HARD drive performance will be limited.

  • Satellite 300CDT: number of HARD disk - partitions show only 4 GB

I have an old Satellite 300CDT, I can't support it appears not yet listed on the Toshiba site.
I have added a new hard drive and bought a 40 GB drive, but it will only show 4 GB per partition.
I want 2 partitions that I have and in fdisk I said 50% for each but it only shows 4GB each even though it says support big readers.
    I'm running Windows Me.
Is it possible for an old laptop of this type to display the size of the hard drive.

    Thank you

    Hello

Did you use the FAT32 or NTFS?
I use partition Magic 8 to do and to manage the partitions on the HARD disk.
In my opinion, you should try this program. I think that using the PM8 you will get the total size of the HARD drive.

  • Satellite 1130-z24: upgrade hard drive question

    Hello

I have a toshiba Satellite 1130 - z24, which requires a new hard drive, the old man is a MK2108GAP of 20 GB but I want to set up a larger capacity drive. What is the record of the maximum size that I can use without any problems of compatibility?

One of the following players would work?

    MK6034GAX 60 GB
    MK8026GAX 80 GB
    100 GB MK1032GAX

I searched on various forums and websites, but the only information I can find is that the BIOS will not support the discs above a certain size, but I don't know how it is.

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hello

I think that good old classic supports IDE controller.

The IDE controller manages max 128 GB HDD due to support of the 28-bit LBA.

So in your case, I would recommend choosing a HARD disk that is not longer than 120GB
so, theoretically the 100 GB MK1032GAX should be compatible

The problem is that Toshiba provides official information on compatible HARD disk HARD disk sizes.
But I've studied a bit in the internet and the following four sizes of hard drives must be supported:
20 GB; 30 GB; 40 and possibly the 60 GB.

  • Satellite Pro L10, the hard disk activity?

Hi, I noticed that on my new L10 Pro of Satellite keeps it hard drive light flashing every 3 seconds approximately and I can also hear disk activity, even when he's just sitting there idle. I was wondering if this is normal, if so why? I was a little suspicious, so I checked all processes running, nothing suspicious. I thoght maybe it's because my drive is fragmented, then defragmented but no change. I thought maybe theres a kind of disk being cached on. I have 512 MB of ram and adequate committed virtual memory, if its doing with VMM is this normal?

    Hello

It is not easy to say what the reason for this. I had a similar problem with my Satellite. The HARD drive was very often active and very slow. In my case, the reason was the antivirus software. The scanning of the HARD drive has been the almost permanent process and something to work on the machine was almost impossible.

After removing the antivirus software HDD is fast. Now, I found a new and there is no problem more.

  • Satellite P100-332: Upgrade HARD drive and 4 GB of RAM

    Hello

    I'm new to the forum...
Well, I want to change 2 things on my Toshiba Satellite P100-332

    1. I have 2 GB of RAM at 533 mhz and I saw on Everest, as well as on the information that I put up. 4 GB RAM 667 mhz. If I want to ask if theres no limitation about to use a special brand of RAM? Or can I use any laptop RAM to 667 mhz? I buy 2 DIMM 2 GB 667, to stay with 4 GB RAM 667 mhz.

2 - my laptop came with a 4200 RPM ATA hard drive and I want to know if I can change my hard drive to another as one with 7200 RPM SATA as a http://www.pcvonline.com/productDetails.aspx?prodID=7434 and I have not seen yet if the Board supports, but does anyone know if I can put one like this?

    Hello

    (1) the Satellite P100-332 RAM can be upgraded up to 4 GB and you can also use the modules of 667 Mhz because AFAIK the FSB supports 667 MHz also.
But the fact is that Windows 32-bit (Vista and XP) would see only 3.2 GB due to the limitation of the 32 bit OS.

    (2) the laptop supports the SATA HDD controller and this is why you must use a SATA HDD. But usually it s no matter if the HDD SATA supports the 7200 RPM. In my opinion, you should be able to use these 7200 RPM HARD drive.

    Good bye

  • Satellite P300 - question about HARD Disk Partition

    Hello.

I just bought a P300-1 Satellite has very nice portable 8. Everything has been restored to the original state. The thing is, I'm sure someone has resized the partition of HARD drive on the disk "D". It has a 160 GB hard drive, but the "D" drive is showing only 54 GB. I would like to reduce the size to give me maximum space on the 'C' drive but worried that it might affect the "HDD Recovery" folder that exists on this subject.

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much

Create recovery DVDs using Toshiba Recovery creator tool. After doing this, you can do with disk partitions you want.
One day, if you want to reinstall Vista and have the factory settings, you can use this created DVD facilities.

Please note: before installation of Vista drive HARD whole lance and ancient structure of the partitions is deleted. Data back up are required.

  • Upgrade hard disk of 500 GB 7200 RPM if possible, 5400 RPM if not

    Hi, I have a laptop HP 2740se w / a drive 5400 RPM 250 GB hard. I would switch to a disc of 500 GB w / a 7200 RPM RPM if possible.

Im very capable pc, but do not know if you can upgrade RPM and I do not know if all 2.5 sata disks "are universally compatible.

If anyone knows with certainty what are my options to upgrade I would be very grateful.

My lists of product name as a dv2500, but my model # lists as a dv2740se

    My # is KC448ua product

If I can't upgrade to a 7200 RPM drive, a 5400 RPM will be acceptable, I just need to be sure that it is compatible as I intend to replace it myself.

Thanks in advance for any help... Tim

Although on some older models of what SATA is out you could have issues with some brands of SATA-II drives (300 Mbps) as the storage controller is SATA I (150 MB/s). Not a problem for you... laptop will be SATA I or SATA-II drives. Interface, dimensions and mounting thumb holes SATA 2.5 all disks are identical. generic and interchangeable; industry standard. I'm personally partial to Seagate Momentus drives (I just upgraded my laptop to a ST903203N3A1AS-RK 320 gig 7200 RPM 16 meg cache SATA-II this weekend to get ready for Windows 7), but frankly all disk hard manufacturers put a pretty good product these days.

  • Satellite A300-1J1 - resize hard disk partitions

Hello, a little long but need the expert advice from you guys.

Recently, I bought the laptop above with a 250 GB hard drive. It comes preinstalled with 3 partitions as follows:

1.5 GB: hidden partition Toshiba System Recovery
    116 F: (C :)) System Partition of Windows Vista)
GB 116: (E) Toshiba System Recovery Image file

My understanding of pass briefly on these forums, the hidden partition houses the mini operating system that controls the real Windows recovery and Image file contains data extracted and installed on the C:? If I'm wrong please let me know!

Anywyay, the problem I have is that I prefer to have all available space mapped in the C:, rather than on the E:. I tried to use the disk management utility to shrink and then expand the partitions, but it wont let me c (I guess it is the system partition, maybe?). I also tried to use the Diskpart.exe program, but to no avail.

The plan I have is to create the recovery disks two DVDs of the utility from the desktop icon.

Copy all the data recovery of E: (approximately 5 GB worth) off the coast of the laptop temporarily.

Manually by using a 3rd party utility drive partition, delete C: and E: and then set the partitions c: = 224GB and E: = 6 GB.

Via the recovery DVD, restoration of Windows Vista in the C:.

Copy all the data recovery back on E: to nowdays fill it and keep it for any future recoveries from disk rather than the DVD.

What I need to know is, is it as simple as that, or I'll run into trouble? HARD drive recovery utility still work the resized partition?

If there are better ways to do or things to watch then please tell me how to on this subject. I would like to know if you guys did the same thing or have left as it came with 2 large partitions.

Thanks for any answers in advance.

    Hello

I think you can have 3 primary partitions.
In your case if you want to create other partitions then you can choose the extended partition!

    Just for everyone here:
Before you modify the partitions (C-system partition or E-recovery partition), you must create the Toshiba Recovery DVD.
So if something goes wrong with you, HARD drive, system, either, you should be able to restore the operating system from the Recovery DVD!

So before you change the partitions-> burn the recovery DVDs!
