Satellite A30-404 unbootable!

Hello

Recently, I noticed how my phone would make an insane amount of sound of its fan. Now, he was never a silencer, but last summer he started to turn off sometimes just to power off after what he had been able to come like crazy. He had got extremely hot, not to the outside, but the Toshiba himself. And I never understood why, because I was not something in particular CPU.
Last week, I noticed how the power/battery LED remains off even when I clearly had the adapter attached to it, 220 v on it.

Yesterday however he turned so that he was working with him, and he no longer starts off! No matter what I press, I see the LEDs do all kinds of things and sometimes for a second try to start, but then immediately turns off again. It does not even insofar as the screen showing something more.

This laptop on me dying is especially strange because
-J' rarely used and rarely used my laptop, and it's only 3 years old. I used it about 2 hours per week, maximum.
-He has never fallen, been hit, was wet, got very dusty, nothing external could have caused this.
-J' added an extra RAM module, a year ago, she now 768 MB, but this RAM is well below capacity and same RAM Toshiba is specially designed for this laptop.

Thus, these supposed untis die after 3 years? What is c?

Hello Jult

My brother has also three year old Office, but last week we have updated the RAM. Can you imagine how office equipment looks like when we removed the cover? There was so much dust inside, almost every piece of hardware, in particular on the CPU cooling fan.

I imagine that your laptop is also full of dust, and after three years, it's time for cleaning. If you hear a strange noise when the cooling fan is running it is also possible the bearing rollers of cooling fan is defective.

I recommend to clean the laptop in a first time, and you will see if the laptop works better and I hope your problem will be solved.

  • Satellite A30 - 404 - the fan does not work

I have a Satellite A30-404 for a couple of years now, and recently I saw serious problems with my laptop.

Let me start from the beginning:

My laptop has been a few months, when he suddenly stopped, I contacted the helpline and they picked up the phone and fixed.
Again, a few months later, it happens again and I call them, they tell me that the problem is caused by the dust accumulating on the radiator of the laptop.
I used a vacuum among fans to clean dust.

When I do that, indeed, there was a lot of dust coming out, so I made this process, I realized a few months and the laptop remained very well.

A few months ago, when vacunuming the pc again once I heard something breaking and I soon realized that all the components of one of the fan where gone.

Probably one of them broke and since it had to be rotated at high speed he stopped and beat all the others. So I had 2 broken fans 1. I realized that in the long term that my processer could be destroyed because it did not good cooling. Since then the processer would become very hot and consumes much more energy than normal.

Now, I also have the problem that whenever I turn on the pc it starts slowly draining battery (its plugged into the power supply). It's like I have a giant battery, the laptop power and eventually it will turn off. I also tried to boot the pc with no battery at all and it works very well for a while, but then it turned off suddenly. I try to turn on the pc and after 1 or 2 seconds it stops again. I don't know if its related to the fact that the processor is damaged boats.

I talked to a lot of people in order to get the fixed fan but they say it can become very expensive since its hard getting the same fan. And by the way, when I work on the computer with only the battery that it depends on almost an hour

    Any suggestions? Help, please

EDIT: I turned of the auto in hibernation when the battery is low to see what is happening, the energy of the battery indicates 0%, but the laptop stays on.

    Hello

Well, you should be cautious if you use the vacuum cleaner to clean the fans. It is risky!
Extra ball bearings might damage if the fans turn too fast.

So if you have no experience with these procedures you should t do.
The person with the experience as a technician workbook must clean the fans and cooling modules.

I agree with Doomlord, and it seems that you need a new cooling module.

  • Upgrading the graphics controller on Satellite A30-404

I have a Satellite A30-404 with a relatively weak Intel® 852GME Graphics controller, some people say that you upgrade this computer laptop isn´t possible since the graphics controller is onboard, but after some research on www.intel.com I came to the conclusion that this chip after all is not onboard but is a slot to order ATI or Nvidia a better graphic chip trough. but iam still not sure if the chip is integrated or not so I wanted to know if this is possible

    Hello

On the net I found detailed information on the graphics chip:

    Intel 852GME graphics controller
    Montara GT code name
    Yes engine 2D
    Yes 3D engine
    64-bit memory data Bus width

But as far as I know it s not possible to update the graphics card.
If you want you can ask to view ASP.

  • Need new BIOS for Satellite A30 - 404 to upgrade to a larger HARD drive

I want to install a new (larger) disk on my Satellite A30-404.
He says have Bios version 1.80.
I probably need more recent (since it was purchased in 2003).

Y at - it a newer version for this machine?

    Hello

Latest BIOS version can be found on the European driver Toshiba page.
Currently, the version of the BIOS 1.80 is available and published for the Satellite A30 PSA30E.

By the way; a more recent BIOS will not help to use a bigger HDD!
The point is that your laptop supports the Enhanced IDE (ATA-5).
Since the ATA-5 interface supports the 28-bit LBA addresses you should be possible to use Max 128 GB OF HARD DRIVE. I think that this is the maximum size, which is possible.

  • Satellite A30-404: DVD player does not read some DVD

    Hello

    I have a satellite A30-404, and recently, I installed a new firmware update for my TOSHIBA DVD - ROM SD-R6112. (page can be found [here | http://nl.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=NL&selCategory = 2 & selFamily = 2 & selSeries = 153 & selProduct = 518 & langua ge = 33 & selOS = 10 & selType = all & yearupload = & monthupload = & dayupload = & useDate = null & mode = allMachines & search = & action = search & macId = & country = 28 & selectedLanguage = 33 & type = all & page = 1 & ID = 46804 & DISO =-1 & driverLanguage = 42])

Since then, I can't play some DVD I write, for the most part, the 4 GB DVD +, for example, I can perfectly read a 1, 3 GB DVD with 3 multisessions.

However, other computers can read the DVD I can't.

    Help would be appreciated.

Maybe the new firmware does contain all of the information on the DVD.
Do you know what firmware is or what information it contains?

The firmware of the drive contains simple information about the support that can be used, what burning/reading speed is supported, which average manufacturer is compatible, etc.

Maybe the new firmware contains other information such as and therefore CD/DVD cannot be played correctly.
I think in this case, you need to test different CDs/DVDs and try to burn at a different rate.

  • Satellite A30-404: how to change the options in the E-Power Manager

    Hello
I have a laptop Toshiba A30-404. I would change my powermanagement in the control panel. If I open powermanagement I get the message; Close powermanagement and open E-power management to change your poweroptions.

As soon as I move the cursor over the tabs of the powermanager, tabs fade and I can't change the options again. I read something about BIOS and ACPI. I would like to know how I can handle this problem?

Is there something I can download from the internet to do this, perhaps?

    Thnx for your help!

    Welcome going

    Hello

The Toshiba power saver is installed on almost all Toshiba laptops.
If this application has been installed on the power management unit running Windows is disabled.
In this case, you will need to use the Toshiba power saver to change power options.

  • Satellite: A30 - 404: gives TV-out black / white

I have a SA30-404. I installed PAL. I checked the cables with one laptop from another manufacturer (!) and the TV still gives black / white. I have installed Intels Extreme Graphics 2. This doesnot even improve things. So, what I can do. Which driver thosiba form helps me.

    Hello

    the A30 has a S-video out.

If your TV has only video then you will get only a black and white screen.

To get a color screen, you need a TV with S-video.

  • Slow display on Satellite A30-404

Lately I noticed how, even in color (16 bit) mode, this laptop has a super slow response. For example look at tiny flash animations, they stutter like you wouldn't believe. Even compared to my old desktop PC, it's slow. It was faster, as far as I recall.

The system is clean, it loads the least possible drivers and services (I co-developed XP Performance edition, so there is no way, it's the fault of Windows here).

I checked on Intel based for this (82852/82855 GM/GME) drivers, and those who are much more recent versions than on the download from Toshiba site. Their installation instead of the 2003 Toshiba drivers did not help a bit. Also tried with and without direct-x, but the display is still extremely slow for what, in my view, that it should be.

I also noticed, but it is not new that the codecs load very slowly. If I load a small avi, wmv or mpeg, it takes a minute before it even starts. Memory management is formidable in the A30, apparently. Maybe the chipset drivers are bad, but hey, I already tried to reinstall those as well. Those most recent of your website in any case.

Also, I have to emphasize that there are already a lot of RAM in it. And Yes, it's the right kind of RAM (the brand was sold as being checked for this particular model).

Really, I must say, I had 486 desktops with only 4 MB of memory display in their graphics cards do these things so much faster!

Does that mean hardware is broken perhaps?

I plan to install an older version of Windows 2000. We hope that you provide drivers for this. I don't like XP and Vista, it is so heavy, so too heavy and full of nonsense really, nobody need or use.

    Any advice is welcome.

    Hello

I wonder why you have problems with your system because if you co-developed XP Performance edition you should surely have enough experience to handle this kind of problem. ;)

I suggest a complete reinstallation of the system, the latest drivers for your components and the top of the whole procedure should be an install a codec as "K-lite codec pack" pack

If the problem persists then, another idea would be to clean the system of cooling for a dust of clobbed cooling system pulls a lot of performance since the CPU throttles down which is the cause of these issues.

IMHO it would be indispensable and if the measures I've described do not help, then maybe that something might be wrong with your hardware.

    Welcome them

  • Satellite A30 - what wireless network cards are supported?

Have a computer Satellite A30 laptop-404, I wonder what kind of card Mini-PCI Wireless would be compatible with my PC?

    Found this one for example.

Gigabyte GN-WI01GS MINI PCI ADAPT 802. 11B / G BASE of RALINK CHIP SNM

Anyone who knows what other types could be used?

    Hello

Hmm, well I've never heard of Gigabyte WLAN cards and I don't know laptops that are equipped with these cards.

I checked Toshiba Web site and some Satellite A30 models shipped with a card Atheros and Intel WLAN. So, I recommend buying a those manufactures wireless network card.
For example Wireless LAN Mini PCI card (2, 4 GHz, 802 11 b) PA3212U-3MPC should be compatible.

  • Satellite A30, Win XP Pro SP3 - modem does not work

Another problem with this laptop Satellite A30
The built-in modem does not work.

    * Explanation: *.
The driver is correct and downloaded from the Toshiba support site.
The modem is identified as "Toshiba software modem amr" and is installed on com3 port.

When I click on "diagnosis" and "ask modem" (right labels can be different, since my is an Italian win xp, I just translated the Italian labels), a window pops up saying: it is impossible to open the door (port), the modem is connected to.

I tried to change the com port of the modem to different numbers, but the problem is the same.
I don't know if the modem is a real map connected somehow to the main Board or is built right on the main map. It would be the first case, I may change see ad. BTW, the mini slot pci is already occupied by the gigabyte of Wi - Fi, so the modem must be elsewhere.

This is strange, since I've done at least 2 other win xp pro on this machine facilities, always download and install the appropriate drivers, and the modem has never worked.
    Thank you
    S.

  • Satellite A30 - 303 unplanned shutdown?

    Hello world

I have a laptop Satellite A30-303. Somehow, independent programs open in Windows XP (Home, Pro edition, tried both), computer laptop unexpectedly shutw down, stop immediately. No message from windows, no errors of any kind, nothing, just the way it went.

It's very strange. I have read all of the instructions, did the bios update to 1.80 (dated Sep 15) and still the same thing.

Fact checking for viruses, all firewalls security and it did not help at all.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Hakan

Please check that the machine not too much heat! The symptom you describe is exactly that of a machine overheating. Check if the fan is running continuously before stopping. Also check that there is no dust in the cooling of the machine module.

  • Satellite A30 product recovery CD

I need to restore the HD of Satellite A30 of my boy.
He gave me that one DVD 'product Recovery DVD-ROM'
He is also says "2/2", which I suppose that it is disk 2 of 2.

This DVD is not bootable. so I guess there could be a disk of 1/2 which is bootable and contains the basic recovery program.

My question: am reason above supported and if yes, where can we get the first DVD, since my boy seems to have lost it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Peter

    Hello

You are right! There must be a n ° 1/2 recovery DVDs!

If you (or your son) have lost it, you can order a new one for every Service Toshiba partner. You only have to sign a solemn declaration for MS that you have lost the CD!

To http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com when you go to the support & downloads you will find a list of partners of Service Toshiba!

  • Upgrade the hard drive Satellite 2410 404

    Hello

I want to improve my toshiba Satellite 2410 404 with a hard drive again. For now I have just 30 GB drive and is not enough for me.

I checked three products to a new Toshiba hard drive.

    MK-8032GAX
    MK-1032GAX
    MK-1233GAX

The model MK-1032GAX 100 GB is my favorite and now my question is, if this drive work with my laptop (im going to install the drive in a toshiba technical station, don't do myself.) or if I have to change something with my mobile phone, update the bios or something.

Just tell me what I should do to work with this drive or if my laptop is not ready for it because it is nearly three years.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

As far as I know this laptop supports only 20 GB; 30 GB; 40 GB and 60 GB hard drives
I guess that a 100 GB HARD drive will not be recognized by the BIOS.

    60 GB MK6021GAS HDD
    MP40KF 40 GB HARD DRIVE
    MK30kef 30 GB HARD drive
    MQ20ksf 20 GB HARD disk
